MadalinStroe: The problem that crystalizes from the trailer, and what I was dreading from the beginning, is that the film seems to end up as a series of vignettes. We get to see Hanzo's tragedy and how he became Scorpion. We get to see how Jax lost his arms, and got his iconic ones. We get to see how Kano got his bionic eye. I'd imagine we get to see the whole Kano-Sonya arc. And of course the whole tournament. I am worried.
Supposedly, the original draft was written by someone who knows nothing about MK, and was turned into a Mortal Kombat story by another writer who couldn't change too much under penalty of WGA fines, so I'm more worried that all that stuff will be token background references in the story of that floppy haired nobody with the magic birthmark of Chosenness. Because we all go to see video game films because we're excited about original characters, right?
Given how the Mortal Kombat universe has rebooted itself what, three times since starting, I've got to wonder if people are even going to get what they're expecting?
IGN should be rated R for retarded.

Hard to say. I though the MK9 game/movie did a good job at not only portraying characters but also did basically the first three games storyplot that made sense vs the console games they originally game with (then again you can only put so much in 4-8Mb or so of ROMs)

Meh... i think those that want to see it will go see it, and unless they do a really good job it may flop since there's no real new ground being made.

Catac1ysm: Original was better in all aspects. New one looks like low cost handmade clip with uncharismatic actors.
Maybe. Remember in interviews, some or most of the cast didn't even know how to do karate or kung fu so they had to learn for the movie. And special moves looked so fake as i recall. Not sure if all aspects of the original were good. But certainly it left an impression and they did a very good job.

But with more and more heavily CGI based effects, you have to look at it and think 90% of what you see likely isn't even there. And if they can't see/interact with it you can tell, and it takes you out of it. You really need a mix of practical effects, with CGI to smooth out issues, or to do things too dangerous in reality.
It feels wierd, I don't know if like it or not :/
i love the original movie from 95. but this looks too much like the game for me.
for some reason i feel like the last thing i need is another mortal kombat film
Not sure... generic "chosen one" story instead of using one of the existing characters. Miscasting characters for the sake of diversity points (Mileena) and as she is a failed clone of Kitana, I wonder if she will play Kitana as well...

This combined with what happened with MK 11, my interest in this franchise has been slowly dwindling. I think it hit its peak with MK9 and 10.
Almost entirely inferior casting, hokey acting, and worst of all, the plot centers on some gary stu who doesn't exist in the games. We really needed some self insert rando to focus on, because MK totally doesn't have enough characters to weave a story around.

Looks like it's going to be trash.

Needs more Kylie.

(OK. Wrong franchise.)

And where is Spinal or Chun Li?
Looks good. I hope they focus on the actual MK characters and not that Cole guy.
So I'm hearing about a fan theory that Cole is actually Johnny Cage... and Cage isn't in the roster, so that's something. But is Hollywood smart enough to actually do that?
Compilation of the new "Scorpion" trailer + the short TV spots released thus far:

The 16th of April sure would be a good time to get some more MK released here, wouldn't it?
Like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy or Mortal Kombat (2011) / Mortal Kombat 9...

I would rather they go in the direction of animated films like the recent Scorpion's Revenge. MK is too ridiculous for live action, IMO unless they got for the cheese and campy route like the first 3 films.
