What do you think? It looks pretty good, IMO. It looks like the film wants its own identity, instead of just copy/pasting everything from the games. I am a little skeptical, as video game based movies are typically not that great. Oddly enough, I actually like the first film from the 90s. It is set to release in April of this year.

Well, Raiden is actually portrayed as properly Asian. So far that's a step up on the pretty decent original Mortal Kombat with Christopher Lambert. I feel they missed the window for this particular IP, though.

Action looks pretty fair! Casting is a bit hit or miss, as is the CGI. Hoping it's not 90% slow-motion, think we've had films like The Raid prove slo-mo in action is not needed in the modern age

I'm wary of movies based on video games. With few exceptions, the same can be said for video games based on movies. Fighting games are among my favorite genres to play, but I think they are among the worst source material for movies.

Also, why an all-new character as a protagonist instead of one of the existing characters?

Fight choreography looks good. Canon characters mostly look good. Non-canon new guy is going to ruin everything.

For a R rated trailer, take a minute and work out why. Have you got such brain power? Might need to download more ramz. Why would it be like the original? Not like that was a masterpiece either. Don't like nostalgia cloud your judgement.

Original was better in all aspects. New one looks like low cost handmade clip with uncharismatic actors.

The problem that crystalizes from the trailer, and what I was dreading from the beginning, is that the film seems to end up as a series of vignettes. We get to see Hanzo's tragedy and how he became Scorpion. We get to see how Jax lost his arms, and got his iconic ones. We get to see how Kano got his bionic eye. I'd imagine we get to see the whole Kano-Sonya arc. And of course the whole tournament. I am worried.

How about you download it? When YT wants to verify your age, they ask for either a scan of your ID or your credit card. Now go figure out why somebody couldn't be bothered.

I'm not impressed. But I have to admit, I am not a fan of Mortal Kombat, I know basically nothing of the franchise, I have not even seen the original film nor played a MK game since MK2, and even that I barely played. To me the trailer looks way to serious and dour. I feel like it should be more like Ash vs Evil Dead - violent and R rated but also self aware of how fundamentally goofy it all is. Because it is. And action, effects, music... it all looks just sort of average.
