looks like a Wizardry game (with a re-relase at a later date) but those where party based and not a single hero based. am i even close in my guesses?
Given that one of the screenshots from Excelsior's website is from the same room as Kalirion's screenshot, I'm going to take that as proof.
(Regarding your mention of the annoying labyrinth, that reminds me of most of the hours that I've spent playing nethack :)
For your guessing pleasure, here's a game of roughly the same vintage as Excelsior, as well as GOG's latest release, Raptor.
(Note: google fu or tineye fu will net you the game name pretty quickly. Try to use your grey matter!)

You are of course correct about Excelsior (Phase One, Lysandia)!
And your game is Traffic Department! A game with great story and writing, but so-so gameplay.
tineye is the reason I took my own screenshot, but I actually knew this one :)
I'll let someone else have a turn now, since I can't take any game screenshots for another 4-5 hours...

right you are. Skynet was released after Futureshock but both games looks the same.

IIRC Skynet added support for 640x480 resolution. And if you had both games, it actually let you play Future Shock in "SVGA" as well, though not sure how stable that was.
Ok, this one should be fairly easy for 90s gamers

Earthsiege 2!
That screenshot looked so familiar I started trying to remember what space sim demos I played in the mid-late 90s. And then I realized it was a Mech game screenshot, which made the search easier :)
Someone else take my turn.
maybe it was too easy for you, kalirion. this might be harder. this game has alot of titles but only the title in-game is the correct answer.

That's David P. Gray's ! (proof).
Somehow that effeminate face in the health indicator reminded me that it was a game from the guy who did Hugo's House of Horrors. The game itself was not that great (though more interesting than Ken's Labyrinth, which I think appeared around the same time), and at least it didn't ask me strange pop culture questions (what was the name of the Lone Ranger's horse?) in order to complete the game, like the original Hugo's House of Horrors.
Someone else take my turn!
