NOW HEAR THIS:

Fellow GOGlodytes,

Six months ago we set up a temporary giveaway to fill the void left by the departure of various regular gifters on this forum, and to honour both them and other missing GOGlodytes. As time has passed, it has become apparent that this giveaway is no longer temporary, but a more permanent fixture.

Entry is simple: state that you're entering. A $10 game of your choice if you win.

On our behalf (and to maintain anonimity), Sachys has agreed to host and manage the giveaway process.

Post to be entered. Our identities are not to be revealed by the winners - or else their future entries will be refused.

Kind Regards,
The Sigil

ADDITIONAL:

This is a simple lottery - one person, one entry. Entries for anyone other than yourself and your own personal gaming enjoyment will not be counted.
All entrants must have an avatar and something other than "new user" as their "forum title".
The title can be changed , and the avatar [url=https://secure.gog.com/account/settings]HERE.
Entries not adhering to these requirements will not qualify.

YOU MAY RETURN TO YOUR GOGLODATION!

ENTRIES CLOSE WEDNESDAY JUNE 18th AT 9PM GMT

...and from me guys: if you could please refrain from bumping the thread, it would be a great help as it makes keeping tally and checking for double entries a little difficult.

For additional fun and participation this week (does not affect your entry)...
Best and worse adaptions - from one media to another.
Has your favourite game got a terrible movie?
Did that great film turn out to be based on a trashy short story?
The highs and lows of adaptive media. Spill!
In early again.

Best adaptation, has to be (after 2 disastrous movie attempts, and other failed series attempts) the move from Game to youtube series for Mortal Kombat: Legacy. I absolutely love that series, I'm hoping they make a third.

Worst adaptation: Well I suppose I'll stick with a theme and say the Street Fighter film. When you're casting JCVD alongside Kylie Minogue, you're not really aiming for a long standing classic.
In and thanks. Best game adaptation: none. Worst - i wouldn't know where to start - too many candidates
In, please :D

Shutter Island was made into a hidden object game, and while it was interesting, it was VERY short and had no ending -- like it was actually just a teaser for the movie! >_<
Sounds fun, count me in.

Best adaptation - seems to be bit hard... I will pick 2... Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic / Batman Arkham Asylum
It think both game are really god in game play and carried a great theme - you dont need to be a batman or Jedi fans to enjoy the games.

Worst adaptation - Super Mario Bros.... Anyone have the same choice? :P
I'm in too, thanks!
I don't think there's ever been a good movie based off a game.
As for the other way around, Pirates of the Carr....Monkey Island was nice, though :D.

and DOA was a fun movie but for some reason it wasn't recieved very well.
I'm in!

On topic, I've recently read All you need is kill and also watched it's Hollywood version, Edge of Tomorrow.

I enjoyed both a lot, the movie a little bit more than the book, actually.

I have to say that I am disappointed in almost every remake movie. I mean I am Legend was a great movie, but it was the third time that book had been adapted to film. They could have said it was based on I am Legend and I would have been fine with it. Likewise with I, Robot. That movie was good, but a terrible adaptation of the books...if they called it something different and said based on the books, it would not have left a sour taste in my mouth.

Harry Potter, the movies are great, but they leave out so much from the books and really changed Ron from being Harry's Loyal to the end friend, to being kind of a twit. They took a lot of Ron's best qualities and scripted them to Hermoine.

As for best adaptations heh the lego games are great and funny adaptations of LOTR, Star Wars, the afore mentioned Harry Potter, and Batman movies.
Let's see what happens if we join in.

As far as worst adaptation goes, plenty of games have gotten horrible movies (Doom, Street Fighter, Mario, Sonic and the list continues)
But the other way around has also been a classic case of horrible stuff going on (even if we don't pull out the "smash hit" E.T.).
It gets even worse if you do both, as is the case of Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game.

A very good adaptation would be Hellsing Ultimate. A faithful anime adaptation that adds a lot of atmosphere to a good manga by the use of music and good voice actors (at least for the Japanese version).
in again

and for the adaptions, i think everything uwe boll touched is pretty much the best example of how you dont do it when ure turning games into movies
hmmm I still want to stay out for one more week, so not in. Thanks anyway, Sachys and SIGIL. ;)

Don't know much about game adaptions, so I'll leave that for the rest of the community to discuss. :/
Not In, but thanks as always to all. :)
By far, Hitchhiker's Guide Movie. I was so angry through the whole thing. I think I blanked out and I can't remember if I even finished it. I think the character names were about all that were similar to the book. bah.

Street Fighter was also pretty bad, and I saw it in the theater.
I'm in!

I usually try to stay away from book/game to film adaptions (thanks to Uwe Boll) and seeing The Hobbit getting turned into three movies is just outrageous... Though I haven't watched the first two movies as of now, I don't plan to watch them anytime soon.
Here Im in
- sounds nice and maybe we hear about some films/books/games which should be checked out.

As im reading a lot of books and on the other side dont watch too much films:

I liked the Lord of the Rings Movies even if there are some "ah come on was this really necessary"
moments like the surfin elve...brrrrr
I disliked The Hobbit
sorry for me its just a lets squezze more money from the licence
we just throw more orks more blood more action and cut costs in good actors so we can make three films where the book is max relevant for one...

And a must mention:
from the Short Story of Philip K Dick: The Blade Runner is one of my favorite films

Films that was adapted from games?
Well better we keep silent.... - even if some of the resident evil films can be watched with some beers.

cheers ;-)

Have to quote here - really the same feelings.

If the Hitchhiker would have been not from a book it would be a mediocre film with some nice ideas and "some" of the humor was working. When you ever had one of the books in your hand it makes you not just angry, I almost freaked out.
