The 50% across the board discount seems pretty pointless. I could get a lot of games cheaper on steam just using the coupons they fill my inventory with. Then there are the bundles that try and sucker you into buying games you have zero interest in if you want a decent discount. Then the gift box that always seems to give me games I already own. Other than the Fallout give away, this GOG sale has seemed rather underwhelming. In a market of dirt cheap bundles and much deeper discounts on competing services, I am really finding it hard to find anything to buy this year. Anyone else feeling a real lack of interest this year, or am I just getting real unlucky with how everything has played out so far?
I don't know about getting games cheaper on Steam but the 50% discount coupled with the bundles for lots of games I have no intention of playing doesn't really encourage me to buy a whole lot. Indeed, I've yet to buy anything from this sale. Now, if you could create your own bundle with stacking discounts, that would be something else entirely!
The only real interest I had in this sale was the Heroes of Might and Magic Pack, but it got voted out in the first day of the sale and I don't know if there are chances I could get my hands on Heroes 2 , Heroes 3 and Chronicles in this sale. The Timeless Classics giftbox doesn't seem to feature them, as seen on Reddit. I cannot post the link unfortunately, IDK why. Google "GOG.com reddit timeless classics" and you'll reach it.
The best sales that GOG have done so far have been the Winter Sale of 2011 and the Summer Sale this year. The 2013 Summer Sale is certainly a hard one to beat, but I think there's more to it than that.

I think the whole decline in sales is a manifestation of the wave of discontent rising in the industry with the trend of heavy discounts.

The Steam Summer and Autumn sales were very meagre as well, and I don't expect that the Christmas Sale there will be much better either. Even I go for two or three games in the Steam sales, but I ended up picking up ONE game during the Steam summer sale and nothing during the most recent one.

Personally, I think the days of 80% discounts a year after release are coming to a close.

I guess I just have too many games here :)
I am also a bit disappointed. I am glad I could get Fallout Tactics for free, that's very cool, but as Gog seemed to finally offer better discounts lately, I expected something a little more than the usual "buy evereything or get no additional discounts" of the bundles. But I didn't plan on buying many games anyway (I haven't bought one yet).
It's not all bad. I thought 10 bucks for the Shadow Warrior reboot (which has been out for only two or three months) was a pretty sweet deal. That and of course giving the Fallouts away for free.

The Daily Surprise on the other hand...
No. It's pretty good so far especially consider the free Fallout games. There are other sites/deals out there but for DRM free games, GOG still leads the pack..... in my opinion.
I don't think the 50% discount is pointless. It's seems pretty standard as far as sales events go. Steam does it, and I think Amazon does it too. As far as the community bundle goes, I don't think they're trying to sucker anyone - just trying to entice folks to buy games they might be interested in. My only criticism of the sale so far are the mystery boxes, which shouldn't offer games the customers own and maybe increase the odds toward games on a person's wishlist.
In relation to past Sales this one is a bit lacking IMO. The free Fallout games were great, of course, but the discounts are not what they used to be. That said, I just bought WC5 for 2 bucks, so that's nice.

What's really pointless is the personalized deals that are not personalized at all. Those could have been a great addition but, ultimately, just fall flat.

To quote myself from the other thread:
The Roguelikelike Bundlelike ist a stacking promo, so you only get the full discount when you all of them.
The Space Sim deal on the other side seems to be a normal promo, you can buy just one item if you want, and still get 66%.

By the way, I can't understand all the people who are saying there are no interesting promos in this Winter Sale. I'm personally drowning in good deals, and there are more games for amazing prices than I could ever buy.

I mean, just today I get 4 DLCs for games I own dirt cheap plus Spelunky. All for 10$.
I really don't know what many of you were expecting. I personally had to pass over so many great deals, because it would have just gotten too expensive otherwise...
Yes, and I'm glad, my wallet is kind-of safe for now :). I haven't bough anything for myself yet, only for others.
I'm glad for the D&D bundle at least... sadly I missed the 9.99 Shadow Warrior (2013).
I'm just hoping the last day of this promo, they re-list all the bundles from this promo.

When nearly everything is 50% and people still complain, we know we have a problem. Any >50% discount is supposed to be harder to get (these games stay discounted for less time - Steam uses a similar system), the difference is that GOG generally makes you buy them in bundles. It's been that way in at least the last two big sales here, so it's not something new.

The only thing I really don't like in this sale is the Daily Surprise, mainly because of the tendency of offering me games I already own.
