Easiest answer is they are not interested in the game. Many people have different tastes in games so it just may not be something they want to play.
Compared to TW2, Witcher 1's not great IMO. A clunky combat system and... it just doesn't convey the character's emotions or plot as well as W2 does. The menu systems are also very hard to decipher, as nearly everything looks interactive but this often isn't the case. Granted, this could be due to its age and technical limitations at the time, but I'm going to play W2 a second time after giving up on W1 a couple hours in.

I do enjoy old RPGs (Oblivion, Morrowind, Avernum, Divinity) but W2 is miles and miles better than its predecessor, IMO. If you're just looking to get into the game trilogy in preparation for W3, I'd defo start at W2. I did, and the plot made complete sense in the end despite little knowledge obtained from W1 (in short, you don't miss much if you skip the first game because of its combat or story or whatever).
It doesn't run on my OS.

Just out of curiosity, what is yor OS? Are you running 98? :)
I haven't played it and the reasons are my PC can barely run it and I don't have time.

No, Win7. It was built in 2007 and I can push anything about that year so long as I turn the settings way down. The exception being indies and the Torch Light games.

I always wondered when you talk about stuff not running on your OS if you really meant your PC/Laptop, now I know.
The engine runs like shit and the English translation is pretty bad, so I wouldn't begrudge people for not finishing it now-a-days.

I did though, to be clear.

I might have some upgrade stuff that you could just have.

PM hardware specs, and I'll see what I have laying around.

Don't worry about it. I'll probably be getting a new system in the next year. Besides everything I have with the exception of Witcher runs fine so I'm good.

Ok, that fire shit is a killer though :-)
I haven't yet. Only reason being because my computer probably can't run it.
never play the first one, idk..maybe because my backlog is to huge?..i do not know when i should play it etc.. :/
I played through TW1 last year. It was pretty good. Haven't really played much of the second, despite having it for quite some time now.

I'm honest with a different opinion on this. I hate the menu system in TW2 and have a lot of trouble navigating it for one reason or another. I found the inventory in particular to be frustrating compared to TW1.
I'm a big rpg fan, but I have not played either of the Witchers. Why? I discovered a long time ago that I suck with real-time combat.
