Stop thinking about FF VIII's story. That's the best you can do. The game is about training your Guardian Forces and about refining cards to items and items to other items, just to train (or: optimize) your GF even further. Story? I don't know... Wasn't there something about side effects of GFs? Something with amnesia...? I can't remember...

No, honestly, forget about the story. The devs were lazy and started to put some random nonsense in the game. My face did hurt from muscle ache when they came up with the already mentioned GF amnesia and all the characters realised that they already knew each other from their childhood in Edea's orphanage. That's one of the most stupid plot devices I've ever seen. 5 people (Rinoa is the one sane exception) travelling together and no one wonders why he doesn't remember anything from three or four years ago. Yeah, sure...

There are other things to like about FF VIII. I love to exploit the shit out of Triple Triad and the refine abilities. Call me crazy, but there's nothing better than to collect 150 Ruby Dragon cards, right after becoming a SEED, just to turn them into 15 Inferno Fangs, which gives you 300 Flare spells with Fire Mag RF ability. Junction them to strength and enjoy the show^^ Same goes for Full-Life for HP junction... 150 Chimera cards will give you 15 Regen Rings and they'll give you 300 Full-Life spells. This will give you 4800 additional HP. This is Final Fantasy VIII, not the story...

I love this game, but the story really sucks and doesn't make any sense.
I just watched the 5-part video series on this theory and I have to say, I kinda love it. I like the idea that they're giving us the dying moments dream experience - something about it just 'feels' right, although I'm still processing all the ramifications of it.

Still, you'd think that after all these years, either Kitase-san or Nojima-san would just come right out and tell us what the heck is was all about :)
I love and hate ff8. Magic/Summons are pretty pointless when your basic attacks deal 9999, hated the drawling magic bs... etc etc.

If only our characters where truely weak/die often, then the guardians could of played a bigger role... but nope, they are regulated to junctioning duties only.

FF6 is still my favorate rpg to date. (love the music, love the antagonist)
The FF6 characters have more 'character' then many rpg characters... even if we only had the characters visuals and unique skill (example: sabin had blitz) to characterize them.

Punished_Snake, If you haven't played FF6, I suggest you do, there is a nice twiste at the half way point, a HUGE twist!

RaggieRags: I think it says something about the writing of this game that a crackpot theory seems to be the most logical and fitting explanation to the events in the game.
Great now LOST popped into my head *shudders.
