I saw Diablo 2 in the blizzard store and I am considering getting the Battle chest, but I'm wondering if it still holds up as a good game in 2013. I assume there are Hi-res patches (Like the fallout ones that bring the resolution up to 1920x1080) but I'm wondering about the gameplay.

PS
Also, if I wanted to buy just Diablo 2 off blizzard, what would the download size be?)

No idea about highres patches... Also you do know its a hack and slash right?

You should find someone to play it with and play from the start to the end online and not play solo. Its more fun that way.

Yeah I know its hack and Slash. I don't really have anybody to play it with though.
If you never played it then yes it is most certainly worth it! I would actually suggest you start with Diablo 1 & Hellfire first if you haven't played those and then move on to Diablo 2 + LOD.
It´s still worth it..in fact,I think the old blizzard´s catalogue is more worthy that the new games.

I prefer Diablo 1 above all the rest, but DIablo 2 is truly awesome.

(Starcraft 1 its the best I think, and Warcraft 3,is the best of the new games in my opinion).

Have fun : )!

PD If you haven´t taste Nox,here in Gog..take it,its awesome too!
Personally id stick to either D3 or some other diablo-like. Atleast i am not aware of any highres pack, but then again i havent followed the scene for years. Anyways, i was dissapointed in D2 graphics when it was released..so i doubt the years have helped on that regard.

And if you play it, consider modding it and playing with some friends. I did have some nice weekends with friends.

I dont play Path of Exile, but its f2p diablo-like, which lots of people claim is fairly good. Then there are also Torchlight 1+2, on gog as well.
Nooo! Don't do it! That game is like crack. You know it's bad, but you're addicted to it anyway. There are definitely better ARPGs out there now. Titan Quest is very good.
Honestly, Torchlight 2 is the current spiritual successor of Diablo1+2. It's superior in every way.
I think Diablo 2 is still great and if you never experienced it, get it (and make sure you have lots of time to waste). In any case it is far better than Diablo 3 (which was too much dumbed down). And in my opinion Diablo 2 also still beats Titan Quest, though Torchlight 2 may be superiour to both.

Diablo 2. Yes. Diablo 3. No.
Diablo 2 was 3 CDs (w/ expansion) + a few hundred more MB for the cinematics disk. (IIRC)
max possible 2.8gb, probable they didnt use up all the space and hopefully the installers have been optimized to not waste up that much space as was on disk.

but def play Diablo 1 first as aries mentioned.
both D1 and D2 are fin awesome.

D3 who knows, even a diehard Diablo fan i cant make that pact with the DRM.
Bought D2 the day it came out complete with game guide. All these years later I still play it constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY.

I guess it's fair to point out that when it comes to any interest be it movies, music, gaming, even food, everyone has one specific passion the extent of which tends to puzzle those around them. For me it's Diablo 2 so maybe you should take it with a grain of salt.

Love the battle chest idea too, the expansion is fucking great. A lot of expansions throw on added characters that are little more than 'skins', not this one, not at all. My only complaint about the Druid is there is no backstory, kind of like no one knew "who they we're or what they were doing". Reminds me of a great song by my all time favorite band. I actually saw them perform it live once, it was great. This little tiny Stonehenge monument came down on stage and a dwarf started dancing around it. It was a comedy number! :D
There is a high-resolution / widescreen patch, but it doesn't work with the most recent Diablo 2 patch / patches (if I remember correctly). It can be detrimental to gameplay if you use a resolution much larger than 800x600, as enemy AI only becomes active in an area a little bit larger than the default screen size (allowing you to kill enemies at range without them responding at all).

The gameplay is still fun. Graphically... the 2D art is a bit low-resolution (the high-res patch helps a bit), but the art style is nice, animation is fluid and there's some good lighting effects. The cinematics were great when the game was released, I think they still hold up pretty well.

Battle Chest is a good idea, the expansion is a great addon (adds 2 new character classes, a new Act, new loot, adds 800x600 resolution support (base game only does 640x480, I think))
