I have, and they called me dumb and told me to call Dell, who then told me to call Microsoft.

Supereor: So, I hear those Macs are looking pretty good. I've also been checking out the PS4, looks like a good idea :)
Once you go Mac, you never go back. I love mine.

There's tons of games for Macs including here on GOG and many more GOG titles you can setup to work on a Mac yourself. There is also tons of games for Mac on Steam and Apple's own App Store.

An iMac with a PS4 would be an awesome combination. I plan to get a PS4 eventually myself.

THATguy93: So I've just searched this in google and found this topic, My father purchased a new computer for me to use in school and had Dell install everything from the OS to to Microsoft Office. I read a post saying it's the OP's fault for installing a trial version, but what if Dell is the reason the wrong version is installed? Especially when the error message starts 6 months after it's purchased. If it's a day to day trial why would it have taken 6 months to ask me to update? I called Dell support and they said the only way to fix the problem is to completely wipe my system clean and reinstall 8.1 full version which should be free. The message only came up once per day so I decided not to do that, but now It's happening a few times a day and is getting pretty annoying. I guess I'll just delete everything in order to use something we already paid for, assuming this isn't actually a virus or something I downloaded, which Dell claimed it probably was.

Any advice that isn't a smart-a$$ remark?
Your Lucky You even Have a Computer "FOR SCHOOL" Back in MY DAY (1996) WE HAD TEXTBOOKS AND PENS ONLY! A PC usually Apple II/e's and Macintosh 1's (with a color Screen!) was a LUXURY few could afford! Let alone the Internet, Grow up!

These are the Ones I had in High school http://www.retronics.biz/images/old-apple-computer.jpg

and that High school had A hyde to call itself a technology high school! and back then there was NO internet connections in high schools! You got it made kid!

You don't need to reinstall. Download Windows 8.1 final through the Store app which will do an in-place upgrade (your files are kept but you'll need to reinstall your desktop games and applications). There should be a gigantic tile for the upgrade showing in the Store. If you don't see the tile in the Store app you can force it by going to the following address in Internet Explorer: ms-windows-store:WindowsUpgrade

Any files removed during the upgrade are put in a windows.old folder on the system drive. Things like Firefox/Chrome settings will end up moved here. The folder structure reflects their original locations so you can usually restore to the equivalent locations. If you use Steam you can simply move steamapps back and "install" the games to make it see the existing files.

For more details see Update from Windows 8.1 Preview to Windows 8.1.

Yes I find that utterly amazing because back in 1999 / 2000 there were hardly anything for Macs! except "PATHWAYS INTO DARKNESS and MARATHON II

I know someone in my high school ported Prince of persia 1 to 1984 Macintosh it ran flawlessly! which means a apple from ten years earlier ran prince of persia 1 a 1993 game as fast as a Intel 486/dx4-100 with hardware ten years older then a 486! apple had the better tech then intel intel was playing catch up!

For most of high school I had to use these;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Micro

and

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acorn_Archimedes

In my final year in normal high school they finally upgraded the school and got lots of Windows computers and an ISDN internet connection - but none of the lessons I had used them anyway, and we did IT in the first couple of years of high school so I didn't exactly learn anything useful.

Exactly! your last year of high school must of been around 1998/1999 era when they just did the swap over! which would make you around the 28 to 30 mark!

What can I say God is good! And thanks for the helpful replies, the restarts began so I followed the steps and the update is being installed now. Either this is legit from Microsoft or the most elaborate scam known to man!

Yea I left in 1999, and I am unfortunately 30 now :(

I take it you are around the same age then? I did at least get to use them in 6th from for a year before going to college, but they were not really that impressive and were massively locked down (which was no use as people would watch the admin type his password, then we would use that to create another admin account and do what we wanted!).

I think it was RM computers that provided them, or something like that.
posting in a troll thread
install ubuntu or pay for win 7 :P (gamers like us are screwed no matter what)

Recently an updated version of Pathways Into Darkness was released for free on the Mac App Store. It looks just like the original game which is very cool but it runs on modern Macs. I tried it out the other day and had some fun with it.

I also found that all three of the Marathon games have been updated to run on modern Macs as well. So I grabbed those also. I haven't gotten around to them yet though.

Mac classics! :D

...and to be honest, there are also tons of problems with games on Mac ;-)
As of now, for a gamer the most versatile choice is probably Windows 7.
