I had to think of Gaspode. But he does not have ALL diseases. Does he still count?

Buenro-games: There is no character in Mythology that is afflicted with every disease known to man. The mere fact that such a standout person isn't readily known when the question comes up, means there is none. Such a character would be easily remembered to those who like reading tales of Mythology.
As it has been pointed out, this was a false alarm with a gullible muppet thinking TV is accurate.
Sounds like he's referring to Job, from the bible. But that's not the Avengers...

tinyE: Whoever it is I'm not getting anywhere fucking near them.
Well that's going to make Christmas awkward for you then because it was, of course, ya mamma!

No it's not. The Avengers was more believable and all together more enjoyable, but I digress. :D

I'm with you, tinyE, but Job was what immediately came to mind when I read 'afflicted with every disease'.

Job wasn't afflicted with "every disease", just several nasty ones. If I remember correctly from reading that book, the precise diseases in question were unidentified (in the "dreaded skin disease" sense).

Personally, I'm slighlty ashamed that as a Pratchett fan I didn't think of Gaspode, but I thought of the people in episode 1, series 2 of the modern Doctor Who. The futuristic hospital that was the subject of the story had secretly created a race of humans infected - between them - with every disease known of, and was testing on them to find cures.

Finally a reasonable answer.

*sigh* Yes, I realize that. I figured the 'every disease' was hyperbole on the part of the friend who asked about it. As I said, it just brought the story of Job to mind.
