I took a look at the games I've spent time with since I began actively buying and playing here this year. And the results are disappointing. Of the 20 or so games only 1/4 of them are from the 90s, with the rest being released in the 2000s. A shocking total - twelve - are from 2012-2014. This includes the Good (FTL + many, many others), the Bad (Gomo), and the Ugly (Gomo).

I've decided I need to stop acting like such a newb. I'm going to use this site in the manner in which it was intended and dive into something old and classic. To mark this occasion, I'm going to give away something old and classic.

There will be one game given to one winner chosen at random. To be in, say you're in and choose from:

1. Sword of the Samurai (1989)
2. Pirates! Gold Plus (1987)
3. Theme Park (1994)

No requirements. I will name the winner here. I'm just going to run this for a few days and cut off entries this Wednesday at 5pm Pacific (US).

I Think that Wing commander and Alpha centauri were both extremely awesome at their time and maybe both have aged well.

As nicovhc mentioned: Alpha Centauri and Wing Commander aged relatively well. So those are best options. Covert Action is a nice spy game, something very rare in the gaming, so i wouldn't avoid it. Should provide quite a bit of fun. Your marked choices didn't age that well, but if i would be to choose from those, go with Pirates! Gold Plus.

Of those mentioned, Sword of the Samurai, Colonization and Alpha Centauri are the ones I played the most. Go with Sword of the Samurai, just don't forget to read the manual first, or google the controls, as there's no in-game tutorial for that .

Not in, but thanks! I'm assuming you have a basic enjoyment of strategy games, otherwise you wouldn't have gotten those two, but you should definitely check out Colonization. Unfortunately it was hugely underrated, especially in comparison to its older brother the Civilization series. To this day it is the only strategy game I can return to every year with anticipation.

I haven't played any of the 7 games on you shelf, but out of the 755 games on GOG, Silent Service got the 3rd best user rating, only beaten by Thief 2 and Balders Gate
