Trade, diplomacy, espionage, conquest--and you thought asteroid mining was a simple operation.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/fragile_allegiance]Fragile Allegiance, an open-ended 4X RTS game made by Gremlin Interactive, is available right now on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Fragile Allegiance employs you in the year 2496 as a asteroid mining operation manager somewhere in The Fragmented Sectors. There are six alien races competing with your mother corporation TetraCorp for precious ore--and it’s your job to out-perform all of them. After selling resources to the Federation, the player has to invest his proceeds in interstellar technology, expansion on other asteroids, ships, weapons, spying, and trading. Diplomacy and espionage play a crucial role, as do non-aggression pacts, joint-combat treaties, blackmail, and special agents. All of these combine to make a difference between ruling the galaxy and being sent on a long slow walk through vacuum.

Fragile Allegiance is an excellent addition to the conquer-the-galaxy genre, a combination of SimCity, Civilization, and Master of Orion with complex diplomacy and challenging AI, now available only at GOG.com for $5.99.

You know, maybe GOG should implement a disclaimer somewhere in the requirements section whether a game is using DOSBox (ScummVM in cases of certain adventure games). That'd stop people asking all the time. Then again, one can pretty much figure any game that had a DOS and Windows version will show up in its DOS form on GOG simply because of the lack of incompatibility issues. Earth 2140 seems to have been the only exception (for a while).

This is the sequel to K240 on the Amiga. And you deserve god-like status for releasing it.

I should add I have a heck of a lot of games on GOG and iirc this is the only game I've ever bought that didn't have a sale attached. That's how good it is.

I particularly appreciated the MSDOS release.

In effect a DOS Flag on the game page is welcomed :)

F4LL0UT: Now if GOG could only start distributing emulated Amiga games...
God no!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be permanently skint :D
I rarely ever post on GOG forums, so this is a special moment. I'd just like to thank GOG.com for bringing my favourite game of all time to their site. I got this game years ago for free as bonus for subscribing to PC Gamer (UK) - one of a handful of games I still remember exactly how I got. To this day, I still consider my original game CD to be an irreplaceable treasure, and secure and protect it accordingly. Now, I can play my favourite game ever without having to take the CD out of the safety of storage, so thank you.
Having played Fragile Allegiance religiously for many years when it was new, I can say that this game is well worth the current $6 price tag. That being said, some people may be put off by the very limited interface. Every colony will look basically the same, and there's ultimately very little room to build in each one. The endgame of any given scenario is kind of boring, and despite what the promotional blurb says, the AI in this game is not so great. It's extremely easy to goad them into breaking non-aggression pacts, which forces them to pay a penalty to you. This is basically an infinite money cheat.

This game has nothing that amounts to a single-player campaign per se, just a series of pre-made scenarios. All scenarios in this game play basically identically.

Also, for 4X purists out there (people who like games like Anacreon), be aware that this is a pausable real-time game, not turn-based. You cannot choose which race you play as. You are always human/Tetracorp. The personalities of the other races are hard-coded and you cannot modify them.

This is a very fun, though ultimately quite simplistic game. If I didn't already own it, I would definitely buy it on GOG.
I hope no one is bothered by necromancy. Play this game.

I would like to know if people would want a small strategy guide.

Back in my youth I played this a lot.
