DaanBanana: Voted, I played the hell out of this game and it still is a high mark in the genre for me. I wrote to the dev (Cauldron) once to ask if they'd consider releasing for GOG or Steam, and they got back to me saying that it would be too expensive. Maybe at some point they'll reconsider (fingers crossed)
SirPrimalform: Too expensive? I don't thing GOG charge for their work, or rather they charge by taking a cut of sales... I don't see how re-releasing it here could be too expensive unless they mean they want to see 100% of the profits from the sales. Perhaps you should ask if they can elaborate on where the expense lies?
"We are happy that still people play Spellcross. Lot of people write us about Spellcross but re-release is very expensive now, so we have to wait to right opportunity."
I'll write back to them to ask if they want to elaborate. However, I assume for now that the expense they'd have is getting it to a state that would reliably work under the latest iterations of Windows, which is a problem with this game. I've not tried it myself with my copy but apparently it is hell to get it to behave under win 7 or later (and/or 64 bit OS, whichever is the problem) even using DosBox. So someone would have to dive in and fix that - his or her labour will cost money. No even sure how many of the original team is still with the company, so it could be quite a time-consuming task.
Anyway, I'll post here again if they get back to me.
