I must admit I would pass it, as I already have the original CD version + System Shock Portable (which I don't feel bad for playing, as I have the original as well).

I actually started playing the SSP a couple of weeks ago, reached the second level already. I'm enjoying it more than I thought possible, considering its age. The better modernized controls in Portable make a big difference, it feels almost like a modern game (apart from retro graphics).

Playing it somehow also reminded me that I should really replay TRON 2.0 as well.

Would be about time, the System Shock CD-ROM version was the better of the two IMO and I hope they leave the controls like they are, being controlably impaired only enhances the hopelessnessfactor (until you actually become proficient in using the controlscheme).

Or are they hinting to the excellent Wings of Glory?

As for System Shock re-release - that'd be cool, didn't play the first one back when it was released.

You do realize that before GOG started distributing Freespace 2. SCP included all the game files as part of its universal installer, because the game was so difficult to come by. As soon as GoG started selling it, they stopped and pointed people to Gog. Even people who had the pirated copy before bought it on Gog, and as far as I can tell, it sells well. So this really doesn't mean anything and should not be an excuse to not making an official release. There are loads of people who buy games on Gog without ever having heard of the game back in the day just because it was on Gog.

I think I know what you mean but I never played any of the Resident Evil's.
System Shock is often lambasted for its difficult controlscheme but in all honesty after you can overcome the fear of the many controls it's actually quite good and for System Shock being a totally different beast than Doom in terms of gameplay it doesn't really need standard FPS control.
What also a lot of people fail to see is that System Shock in its original control layout has a very similar setup to the now common WASD setup, it only differs in the way you face the view with the keys but I liked that you could always use the mouse to click on the interface.
Terranova: SFC which I think is a much harder game because of its faster gameplay used the same controlscheme and I played through that game at least twice.

To movement control scheme is QWERTASDFGZXCVB. Instead of WASD+Mouse look.

How does the WASD+Mouse look make everything easier? Even on High Difficulty settings?

It's always funny when people complain about games being too expensive now-a-days when they're really so much cheaper, even at $60 on launch day.

If System Shock gets streamlined controls it becomes a run'n'gun shooter instead of making a tactical approach to every situation, yeah the game still has a nice story and atmosphere but you won't break a drop of sweat the entire game.

So any possibility that GOG will get the original System Shock thats not the Portable version? If Night Dive does reelase it?

I don't know, Nightdive using SSP is not very likely but then again I don't think it's beyond them to make similar alterations to the game.
Maybe I'm becoming an old fart but any enhanced/modernized/HD versions I've played of old games sucked on several levels in different degrees compared to the original release.

SCP does not include all the files required to play anymore? That's new for me. I installed (re-)SCP last year and only copied the movies and the needed FS1 files over from my GOG version - just like I did several years ago from my disk version.

Also I won't speak against releasing SS1 here, I would probably buy although I already have the "Enhanced CD" version and SSP. I just don't know how much money there is to make with it.

I curious if they had to talk to EA about this.
