Anybody else a fan of the Saints Row series? The Saints Row series originally started off as a GTA series clone but Saints Row: The Third and definitely Saints Row IV have outgrown that label.

In Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV there aren't any puzzles that require deep thinking and there only a few times where you have to make a serious choice that affects the story but the games are just...fun. The Saints Row series has perhaps the best customization of any games ever (even letting you choose your voice with three voice actors per gender), missions that are (at times) stupidly over the top (and I mean that in the best way possible) and humorous generally well written and simply entertaining stories.

Maybe one day Saints Row 2 will appear here at GOG.
I actually like 1 and 2 more than anything after.

I know many people consider Saints Row 2 to be the best out of the series and it is pretty great, but wasn't Saints Row 1 just a generic GTA clone? I'm asking because I've never played it (I don't have an Xbox 360).

It's basically 2 with a different plot. So no not really. Basically gta fanboys call saints row a gta rip off anyway.

Yeah that's true. Speaking of influences/clones, in Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third I notice what seems to be a lot of influence from a game I used to really like called Scarface: The World Is Yours, which was also labeled a GTA clone. Kinda funny, wasn't a lot the plot/setting of GTA: Vice City heavily....influenced by Scarface? Anyway, if you like Saints Row 2 there is a pretty good chance in my opinion, that you'll like Scarface: The World Is Yours.

had scarface on ps2 at one time I did enjoy it.
I've checked out SR The Third after getting it in a bundle, without knowing much about it, and at first (after playing through the long intro mission) I didn't like it and thought it wasn't my kind of game, but when I gave it another try later on I got sucked into it and really enjoyed it, despite and also because of its silliness. I didn't care much for the story and characters but the gameplay was great fun and the customization options, the voiceovers and the soundtrack were very nice, too.

After I had played through it, I tried SR2, and it's just like The Third, so I should like it, too, but ... I can't quite put my finger on it, the gameplay is the same but somehow it feels like the controls don't work as smoothly yet. Especially driving was a lot more fun in SR The Third. That's not to say that SR2 isn't a good game, it probably is, although I haven't seen much of it yet. But it really made me appreciate The Third even more, because it seems they actually succeeded in making it even better.

Ah, that would explain it. Sadly the only console I own is a used PS2. ;)

Awesome, Saints Row: The Third was my introduction to the series as well! I didn't like the tutorial that much but I loved every other part of the game. I played most of the game with the generic Eastern European voice and I think she has the best unique dialogue, though the hilariously bad cockney accent has some great moments.

Saints Row 2 was just a bad PC port, it's mostly playable...as long as you don't have to drive anywhere. Still there is a lot of attention to detail in Saints Row 2 (I seem to remember my character even actually looking wet after falling into water) that makes you want to explore the world.
My ex used to get annoyed with how much time I'd spend on SR2. Even though she was a gamer herself rofl.
I don't particularly like them. I'll just be glad to finish them and be done with it. It's not bad, it's just not fun for me.

Is it like the Godfather Game? I liked that, and Mafia, come to think of it.... (Scarface that is)
I have SR2 and 3 on my 'to do' list - getting quite near the end of San Andreas at the moment - I've made 1 attempt at the mission that unlocks the jet pack

I've only played 2; really liked it. From everything I've read, I think the series got a bit too ridiculous for my tastes after that.

Man, I loved that Scarface game. Wish I could find it again.

There's a big difference between the controls in SR2 and SR3. The driving and shooting are vastly improved in The Third. I played SR3 first and enjoyed it a lot, so I picked up SR2 right after I finished it because I figured it would play almost the same. However, the driving and shooting in SR2 are so crude compared to its successor that I'm finding it hard to get into the game. It feels like a big step backward after playing The Third. The graphics and animations, too, are much improved in SR3. By comparison, SR2 almost looks like a PlayStation 2 game to me.
