I have an interesting question. I often find myself as the only person in a large crowd that as a gamer he supports both PC gaming and console gaming and plays video games on both at least on a weekly basis.
Don't worry! I know I'm the only one. That's such a primitive assumption, that I....I....I don't even.
So here's my question: Are you someone who games and supports both the console and PC medium, and if yes, how do you decide on which platform you purchase a game?
-Personally, I prefer my action & turn based RPGs on consoles, but I won't mind the PC version. I may even own the game on both mediums. I'm mainly an RPG gamer. I enjoy RPGs the most and games from other genres that have heavy RPG elements entertain me more. This can be a reason why sometimes I like owning a game on multiple mediums.
-As far as strategy games go, PC is the leading platform, but there are exceptions like XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
-Racing, well, it all depends. This one is tricky, I like the controls better on PC, but sometimes I just want to relax in my bed or on the couch and play a racing game.
-FPSs. This is an interesting one. Some of the FPSs I play like Team Fortress or Counter-Strike are on PC, but I buy FPSs on consoles too.

the counter seems to be in favor of the consoles, so what am I doing on Steam and GOG? The answer is simple. RPGs and strategy games that are exclusive. Plus I like supporting CDProjekt Red.
I only buy console games if they are exclusive to a specific platform (in my case PS3 and PSvita).
Everything else I will get for the PC because the games are cheaper most of the time and usually feature better graphics and higher framerates.
If I'm interested or like a game, I'll get for the platform it's on. Pc gaming and Console gaming offers different things for me, Pc's give me mods and on Consoles I don't have to worry about system requirements. I just play games where they are.

I'm mainly a PC gamer. The few times I played on a console was only for the Kinect experience, because these games are not available to pc.
As for the rest of the games, I always choose the pc version because of lower price and better graphics (as ThermioN said) and also because of the bigger variety of games.
For the most part I will get the game on PC since I can easily hook up a 360 pad to my PC and the game will look better and run smoother on a good PC. So the only time I will get a game for PS2 or PS3 are the exclusives like most JRPGs like Ni Nu Kuni or later Final Fantasy's or the Persona series/Shin Megami Tensei for PS2 along with Resident Evil and Silent Hill series.

I love my consoles but I do prefer my PC.
I only play PC games, but that's simply because I dump my entertainment budget into my PC. I don't don't have anything against consoles, but I don't want to spend money on another system.
I've been a PC only gamer ever since my PS1 died ages ago. Though I love the "PC MASTER RACE!" joke, I don't mind consoles really. I have a good PC and a Xbox 360 controller and I have a lot to play on the PC, so little reason to buy a console nowadays. Exclusives hardly ever make me feel like I'm missing anything, specially in this day and age of overabundance.

But if you like'em consoles, you should totally feel fine to have one. :)

As for genres, I've always had a spot for fighting games and classic FPS action. Always enjoyed adventures too, but had almost none of them in the 90s. After I reached adulthood (biologically speaking :P), I began to realize I had very little to play in other areas, so I started buying and playing other kinds of games. Never regretted it.
I love both. Console mainly for more action-oriented or music games, and pc for strategy, fantasy, micro-managing stuff.
Console games are too expensive, those are the kinds of things that you get as gifts for really special occasions.
After discovering GOG I've largely abandoned console gaming. Now I pretty much just get console games when they are hardware-intensive titles that I don't feel like trying to get to run on my PC. Oh, and of course the occasional console-only title that I want, but those are fewer and fewer these days.
Despite having a Sega Megadrive II as a kid (with about 10 games in total on it), and a gameboy, and playing on a friends' consoles whenever I visited them (first experience with Zelda, Tekken, etc.), I've always considered myself first and foremost a PC gamer, and didn't have any clue about the culture of console gaming (and yeah, there is a pretty deep culture).

To reintroduce myself to it, almost as a form of education, I got myself a PS2 (supposed to be the best console of that generation) last year, with all the famous and "culturally significant" games. To be totally honest, while I had some great experiences (Ico, Way of the Samurai, Katamari Damacy/We Love Katamari), I saw the origin of a lot of (what I consider) horrible practices in game design (that I had only glimpsed tangentially on the PC): QTEs, badly converted interfaces, arresting player control constantly, the whole ridiculous cover-mechanic 3rd person shooter, etc.

I have no preference either way, but I just want that if a game is available on the PC, even if it was ported, it should be such that I can play it properly without a gamepad. Having no game at all on a platform is better for me than having a badly ported game.
I play pc and consoles games. Here's my process for games I want:

Is it available on PC?
If yes, is it DRM free?
If yes, can my current computer run the game well?
If yes, I buy it for PC.

If any of the above answers are no, I get it for a console.
consoles simply do not offer me any advantage over PC. Sure there are exclusives, but wont invest in console because of brand of two. Anyways, PC has way more "exclusives" than consoles to begin with.

personally i simply see any advantage in being console gamer, except if you are afraid of having more buttons than the controller + ON/OFF button on console.

So yes, pc master race forever o/

Your mentality is mathematically incorrect. You include ages long PC exclusives from other console generations, but you compare a single console generation's exclusive to multiple ones.
As for PC, it evolved just as consoles, with new tech, new possibilities arose.

ooo, i mean all the consoles. been using C64 -> Amiga -> 286 -> 486 -> pentium era and so forth. Even "back then" you just didnt have stuff like X-wings, Civilization or Steel Panthers on consoles. My friends got nintendos and segas - i was happy with my elitism even back then ;)

And guess what, i can still play any of those good oldies games, even from C64 on my current PC. Can you do same with any console?

As time has gone on the pc überness has only increased. If you compare say 8bit nintendo to xbox one just how much consoles have -truly- evolved? sure you got sweeter graphics and some social things - but pc does it all better.

"What you can do, i can do" sayth PC to consoles ;)

Give me concrete example how any single game that you can play with either, console or computer is better on console vs computer? And Steel Batallion doesnt count. its only one game. unfortunately.
