I admit, I love this show. On paper, I hated the sound of it. But I gave it a chance and ended up watching all three seasons within timespace of one single month. Hooked rest of my family on it too.
The only problem is (was) that it ended up canceled with not really finished ending.
Well the folks behind it finally gave in to the draws of fan funding and pitched it on kickstarter:

For now, the campaign is a dissapointment in that all rewards are US only. Which is insane, and a lot of people are voicing that.
Still, I backed it at 10 dollars anyway, I want to see it made.

I love(d) the series as well even though like you said on paper it shouldn't have been something I liked.
And doing this for the fans (although for a fee) is still pretty cool.
I am thrilled to see this project. One of my favorite TV shows ever. I backed it even before I saw this post and hope it succeeds. The US-only thing might be a Warner Brothers limitation that was put on Rob Thomas. Probably meant to limit distribution of the movie itself, though, and not the T-shirts and things like that. Since Warner Brothers seems friendly toward the project, maybe they will do whatever needs to be done to let things ship internationally at some point.
I'd rather kickstart Season 4 a.k.a. Veronica Mars - FBI Special Agent.

And while I'd like to see more Veronica Mars, that movie business makes me think of the Dead Like Me movie which was an utter piece of crap I wish I could unsee...
Well hopefully movie is both critical and commercial success, and Thomas might even get sequel or (more preferably) new season made. Now that would make my year :-)
This will be huge. I'm not backing but it's nice to see bigger names from movie industry appearing on Kickstarter. I can see Firefly 2 in the distant future :P.

EDIT: And yeah, I agree that the US restriction and DL-only absence are sad. I know that fanbase in Czech Republic is strong and they'd certainly go for higher tiers too.

I ended up watching, and liking, some episodes when shown here in the UK. I like the work of the guy who plays her day.

Couldn't tell you what series/season got shown here, but the storyline was intimating she was drugged/raped at some party, and .....the missing school bus "accident" because she got talking to the biker guy at a gas station, or something.

Few years ago, now...
I haven't ever watched it, might give it a try sometime because other people here have said they seem to not like that kind of show (I wouldn't think I would care for it either) but ended up liking it. I'm not a fan so nothing they're offering in the rewards appeals to me at all, since I don't really care to see it exist and the actual things I would get seem way overpriced to me. If I wanted this movie to exist I would feel different though.

It really skyrocketed. It has already surpassed the most funded film/video project on Kickstarter. I don't know the exact hour it launched but it went up like $100,000 from 45 minutes ago. It might beat Torment for how fast it gets to one million. Impressive.

It already beat Torment. I think Torment took 7 hours, Veronica 5.
If they brought back all the same people and finish up the story I would be totally fine with it, I myself was really quite disappointed on how they ended season 3 and then to find out it was cancelled kinda pissed me off.

Ah, thanks. I didn't know the exact time it launched (do projects launch the same time every day? I haven't ever cared to check). The way it was going I figured it was going to reach it faster. Like you said, this bodes well for other projects I would be more interested in.

You're welcome. It's actually 4 hours. Kicktraq says it was launched at 9:42 AM CST (should be 16:42 UTC+1).

awesome
I loved the show so I've currently pledged $10 and will up that once international options are added.
It's a runaway success too, having raised over 75% of it's goal already in less than 8 hours!
I never watched the show (although it's on my "maybe, eventually" list) but I think that's really cool, especially that it will easily reach it's goal.

For me, that's actually more exciting than when video games became huge hits on Kickstarter, because I'm just an enormous TV series junkie.

Series like Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones et. al. showed the potential of the serial format, one that could match and even surpass the feature film format.

And now this will maybe pave a way, that will take series not only to a new level artistically, but also economically. Maybe in a few years we can fund entire series - new series - that have the quality, and maybe even the cast of shows like Breaking Bad, on Kickstarter.

So, like I said, never watched the show, but I'm excited, because I hope it will do for TV shows what Wasteland 2 did for video games.
