Age of Wonders, King of Dragon Pass, Darwinia, and other strategy classics up to 80% off!

We know that you like to be in charge. We know that you like that feeling of power and the constant pressure of one life-and-death decision after another. Whether you are in the battlefield, commanding your troops, in a warlord's tent deciding the life and death of your subjects, or in a city hall, placing miniature buildings on a map--you flourish. Leadership is your element. Knowing that, we've prepared a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/strategy_games_weekend_promo_250414]Supremacy Special promo to cater to your tastes. Or rather: to nourish that ever-present hunger for power that you have. Let's take a look at a few of the games on this weekend's offer, shall we?

If you've been eyeing Age of Wonders 3, but you're unsure if it will suit your taste well, this is your chance to sample the concepts of the series. On this promo you'll find all of its predecessors: Age of Wonders, Age of Wonders 2: The Wizard's Throne, and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, which offers virtually infinite playtime with its random map generator feature. If you like turn-based strategy games following the time-proven explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate scheme, but you haven't had the chance to play these games, now you can--for half the regular price, with the first game for as little as $2.99 and both sequels for $4.99 each!

The unique storytelling gem King of Dragon Pass puts you in charge of a clan of colonists in an unexplored territory. The ways the story of your clan can unfold are virtually limitless! Every single decision you make affects the slowly-unravelling tale. There's consequence to every action in this game and the choices between right or wrong rarely are apparent. Wrong choices don't end the game, though. Like in real life, they just make things harder. This community favorite, one of the highest-rated games on GOG.com (and rightfully so!), can be yours for only $2.39.

If you enjoy the turn-based mechanics of the Heroes of Might and Magic series, but you would like to immerse yourself even deeper in a complex and extensive gameworld, don't miss Eador: Genesis. When we originally released this Russian masterpiece, we said that the single-player campaign can take up to 200 hours to beat. Our colleague from the support team, who knows the game by heart came asking later how did we come up with such a number. We told him, that 200 hours is the expected playtime stated by the developer. "Must have been a speedrun"--our friend commented, and we believe him (GOG.com support is known to be trustworthy, afterall). So brace yourselves--for only $2.39 you'll get more than 200 hours of playtime.

But that's only scratching the surface of our weekend promo! There are many more games to challenge your leadership skills on the Supremacy Special promo page, so go ahead and check them out now! The offer will last until Tuesday, April 29, at 3:59AM GMT.
I can highly recommend Eador as a very good game.

IronArcturus: Is Cossacks Anthology similar to Age of Empires?
It is A LOT HARDER. The "niche" if you will for Cossacks is supply: it is everything. Whenever you produce something it is immediately consumed and this goes not only for food but gold to pay soldiers, supplies to arm them, and even the lead and coal needed to fire them. EVERY bullet comes out of your stock and a bad player like myself will constantly be running out of ammunition right in the middle of a battle. Not that it matters because by that time most of my army has already starved to death or deserted. :P
Heroes of Annihilated Empires is worth it? And what about Battle Realms?

Battle Realms is a great game. Fairly unique gameplay, in unique settings with a great soundtrack.
Great, I will buy Battle Realms.

Nexus is amazing, if you are in doubt see the next video:

Any suggestion about these?
- Darwinia: is this good? Original, but polished strategic title?
- Multiwinia: (why are these separated?)
- Uplink: is it entertaining and not too hard for non-hackers?
- Nexus: is this a 4k game? It seems cool, but is it complex and balanced enough?
- Galactic Civilizations: are the sequels better?
- King of Dragon Pass: these kind of new games seem too simple and short "RPGs" to me, am I wrong?
- Overlord: many critiques about this title, does the expansion drastically improve it?
- Eador: never heard of this one.. worthy clone?

Uplink was a very fun game if you don't mind minimalist visuals (but it "fit" the game perfectly). It isn't too hard, it's more about steady progression and figuring out what hardware / software you wanted next and what "jobs" you could do with the stuff you had. I eventually burned out on it a bit. The game had the strange duality of being open ended but occasionally repetitious. All that said I'd certainly recommend the game if you're interested in it.

King of Dragon Pass is a game I've wanted for years - it plays out like a choose your own adventure book - I was hooked when I played the demo waaaaaaay back when and while I never did track down a copy, I'll be picking this up tonight or tomorrow ;) Eador is another one I haven't played and I'm a bit more on the fence about - I always wanted to nab it. I actually just started a thread in the subforum trying to figure out if I should 1) hold off for the pretty that is MOTBW, but risk bugs and a slightly more cumbersome interface or 2) just go with Genesis

Darwinia is a VERY highly regarded game, both for it's stylistic visuals and its ability to really distill RTS down to its roots, cutting out a ton of elements but leaving what makes it interesting; streamlined but in a good way - not in a dumbed down way. I never really got into it that much, but I could see what was there - sorry I can't help more on that one.
I really dislike the "Up to" 80%. It seems it is only 80% if you buy all the games. There is only one other game that I do not own from this bundle (I already own 10 of the game offered) that I would like.

This is what gog use to do in the past with "Up to" 50% off; did not like it then and do not like it now.

Pass on the one I want.
Very nice promo here. Already had most of these, but decided to start filling in the Age of Wonders series after finishing up Gabriel Knight and Crusader. One question, though (apologies if it's been asked to death) - why don't the earlier Age of Wonders games have manuals included? Some kind of weird rights issue that extends only to those items? They're available online, seems strange that they're not here.

All of the Introversion games (Uplink, Darwinia, Multiwinia, Defcon) are 80 percent off right now. No incremental discounts based on percentage of promo games purchased.
This King of Dragon Pass dilemma is going to kill me. I am not a fan of the genre but whenever people talk about it they sound like they are describing the 2nd coming of Christ.

king of dragon pass is an amazing "game" if you don't mind reading and menu-driven gameplay. trust me, there is plenty of diversity and you're not going to see everything in a few playthroughs...and playthroughs is plural because your clan can get wiped out easily. just for the music and artwork alone it's worth it. then to top it off I really enjoy the game. it is kind of like a choose your own adventure book but with stats that can help curb outcomes. expect trial and error kind of thing at first because in many events you're just not going to know what to do. right and wrong isn't obvious. part of what I like about this game. so....yeah. lots of reading and menu-driven. if you don't mind that then you're in for a treat. if you're an action-y type then maybe you should avoid or watch a let's play video.

SpellSword: Ack! >_< GOG really needs to add those manuals. T_T

G-Doc: Duly noted.
I thought/assumed it was a licensing issue? IIRC, the first game at least Triumph outsourced the manual to some Chinese company. By all accounts it was a quality manual and no doubt quite useful to have when you first start playing. Still, the game itself is easy enough to pick up.
For anyone who has AoW:SM but is hesitant about buying AoW2:

You can play the scenarios in AoW2 in Shadow Magic. Just copy the scenario files for AoW2 into your scenario folder for AoW:SM :)
