Zurvan7: Lol people need to read instead of making the same threads over and over again xD
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/question_about_the_witcher_3_preorder Also FAQ No 7
Is The Witcher 3: WIld Hunt really going to be completely DRM-FREE? It's a brand-new AAA game!
Yes! The GOG.com version of The Witcher 3 will have absolutely no DRM. Zero. Zip. Nada. This is not only because GOG.com stands for DRM-free gaming but also because CD Projekt RED is sticking to their word and ditching DRM altogether wherever they have control over it. We simply want gamers to experience the game in the best possible way.

http://www.gog.com/thewitcher3/en So I think you are given the choice to activate it on gog for a back up copy IF you lose your CD or something....
You do realise that the links you provided apply
only to the digital edition sold on GOG.com, right? There's nth in that FAQ you linked to hinting at getting a GOG code with your retail purchase of TW3, in fact the exact opposite (no free GOG backups, at least for now) was stated to people who contacted support. I could try to dig up the relevant post, if you'd like.
Brosdon: I want to know about retail version of Witcher 3. It will be again activating trough steam or DRM-free? Or you again give freedom of choose via activating backup copy just like with witcher 2 ?
JMich posted in another thread that GOG.comLive tweeted that the retail edition of TW3 will be DRM-free, but I haven't seen the tweet myself. If you're interested in it, you could search for it
here or maybe JMich has the relevant tweet handy.
Either way, no free GOG backup is guaranteed, at least for the time being.
EDIT: JMich came through - see
here.
