So, the Xbone will be released next friday after so many PR disasters and U-turns.

To be honest i really want to play Killer Instintict (i was a huge fan of the SNES original) and Dead Rising 3, which seems to be a pretty decent game according to the reviews. The first Dead Rising was one of the most interesting games released for the Xbox 360 at it's early days (it wasn't a launch title, though). I wanted to love it, but the AI issues and the time limit to finish the game were a huge turn off for me.

Most people probably don't care about the Xbox One, but i decided to start this thread anyway (there's also a PS4 launch thread already).

Interesting that one of the launch titles is an F2P fighting game (far as I know). From what I hear it actually implements the F2P elements quite well (think they have free characters on a rotation or something).

I'm keeping an eye on it, but I'm not buying it right now.
Then again I'm also waiting a bit before buying a PS4 (which seems to be a good thing).
If MS can do some cool exclusives like for example Fable 4 and Crackdown 3, I won't feel bad about buying the Xbone.
But for now I'll just wait a bit and see, it usually takes at least six months before anything remotely interesting is released on any new system.

Waiting for 3 years before I consider buying any of the new consoles. I was an early adopter of the 360 and to make a long story short I'll just express tersely the levels of hell I went through:

1) None of the play and charge kits function right after about 3 months.
2) Lost 90 dollars worth of dlc due to microsoft forcing users to switch over to a hotmail account if their live account was associated with a different kind of email (say GMail or YahooMail). (The DLC was stlll on my hard drive, but switching consoles or hard drives would have eventually lost me the dlc on a new console or new hard drive)
3) Experienced red ring of death on console. The second console, in three years of service, has a failing disc drive. (Won't always eject right without leaving a disc in).
4) Got to witness a stream of new consoles for the same price as the one I bought come out with even more features (built in WIFI, extra usb ports, bigger hard drive)

The PS3 I got much later in it's super slim form (of which I have no major complaints). However I had a friend who was negatively impacted by the Sony security breach. Not to mention the insano price of the PS3 when it came out. To me it just felt like the companies were using their consumers like beta testers for hardware, software, marketing, and of course money making ideas.

My advice to everyone, on BOTH the XB1 and the PS4 is to wait a year or two if you can.... Both launch models of the previous generation had tons of problems with their first iterations, and before that, the PS2 had tons of hardware issues at launch. I'd wait, enjoy current gen games, and pick one (or both) for next year, when there's an actual library of games to play.

I wasn't aware that the PS2 ever had launch problems; what were they?

I never had issues with my (non-launch) fat model, but it was either overheating issues, or issues with the CD laser.

Well, I don't know about anyone else in here, but I certainly care about the XBox One. I now watch 90% of my TV and movies through my XBox 360, and I have been primarily a console gamer the last 15 years. I just became a PC gamer a couple months back, after building my very first gaming PC. So now I am both a PC gamer and a console gamer. I have 2 XBox One's pre-ordered, along with 6 games (Assassins Creed IV, Forze 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Need for Speed Rivals, and COD Ghosts). I will buy a PS4 around this time next year. Short of the WiiU, I will have access to any game that comes to market that I might be interested in.

I am really excited for the Xbox One as I expect MS will continue to innovate the console market, as they have the last 2 generations. I am a racing game junkie and in all honesty, Forza 5 looks like the racing game I have waited my entire life for. I already ordered a Fanatec Rennsport V2 cockpit. Now I just need Fanatec to create a next generation wheel and I will be good to go. These are definitely exciting times to be a gamer!!

This. It was the infamous PS2 Read error, mainly. I bought one at launch that lasted me up until I sold it to a friend. About 6 months down the line though, I picked up a new one again and yup, the disc drive would only read certain games.

Dead Rising 3 looks pretty great. I won't be able to play it for a while because I went PS4, but I wish I could.

Ryse... I don't think it looks as terrible as some do, but I'm definitely not excited by it.

Everything else isn't my thing.

On the hardware front I don't care even a little bit about the TV stuff, the media center stuff or the voice command stuff. I'll never use any of that. So as a machine I plug in to play games on it seems way over-designed and expensive to me.

Not sure how I feel about Dead Rising 3. I've only watched a couple of videos, but it looks quite different from the first couple of games. It appears to be grittier, more serious, and unfortunately it makes use of the "realistic" brown-and-grey color palette which I'm really getting tired of. I hope it's as entertaining as the first two games anyway.

Not quite sure what happened there, I don't remember anything like that, but, if you change console, you get a "licence transfer" on XBL, then re-download your dlc to your new console, you don't lose anything.

As regards the XB1, after the shenanigans MS tried to pull with the "always on" BS and the game drm crap, I wont be buying a XB1, I will be buying another back up 360 next month, maybe get a PS4 next year, but I wont buy a new MS console again.

I havent seen anything about the Xbox One that has made me think "I must buy that", there was an advert on tv the other night about a game for it, RYST or some-such that the advert looked decent but thats it.

Ill likely wait and maybe pick up one of the new consoles in a year or 2 depending if there are enough games that will make it worthwhile to buy one.

The other side of the coin is that sometimes they make unwanted changes to the newer revisions, like:

- dropping backwards compatibility (PS2-compatibility of PS3?)

- being able to run Linux (PS3?)

- I recall reading reports that the earlier PS3 systems were technically better Bluray-players than the later models? I can't put my finger on it what it was, but I was dismayed as I had been thinking of buying a new PS3 for a Bluray-player, and then I read those reports.

- newer revisions will be harder to hack and mod (boohoo especially to pirates, but also people who'd simply want to do something else with the device, e.g. how many old XBoxes were turned into glorified media players with third-party software, or PS2-systems could be modified so that you could install DVD games in the internal hard drive and play them from there).

- also I feel sometimes the later revisions might be even of a bit poorer quality (even though there are less actual HW defects in them), as they are trying to push the manufacturing costs further down.

But yeah, I would also still wait a bit. It may be actually that already in the European release many HW bugs are squashed that were there in the original US (and Japanese) versions.

Overall, at this point I feel almost a bit sorry for XBone. I personally feel that at this point PS4 is stealing all thunder and goodwill:

- no "it will have DRM, ok maybe not"-mess on PS4
- PS4 has better performance?
- PS4 is more geared for gaming without useless(?) US-only TV-thingamajingies
- PS4 is cheaper (right?)
- PS4 is smaller, probably quieter and looks better => sexier (this will naturally change in time if and when MS introduces smaller and more streamlined revisions of XBone)

But things can change, I guess. Maybe XBone will have some future TV-thing that everyone will want to have, who knows.

Gonna wait a year before buying any next gen console
Games I wanted such as Watch Dogs got delayed and big games like Infamous won't be out for a while and games like Crackdown 3 haven't been announced yet
Plus current games like AC4 can just be bought for PC
