Daz1967: I fortunately had a backup of the original The Witcher 2 release that I downloaded from GOG. I had to reinstall my game as the corrupted EE patch messed up my game such that I had no choice but to do a clean install. Even then I had to redownload TW2EE_Patch-1.bin and TW2EE_Patch-2.bin as the original files where corrupted somehow and caused an error when extracting the new patch0.dzip.

It seems that several of The Witcher 2 patches have had some kind of issue or other which leads me to wonder if anyone actually checks these things before uploading them. A lot of people seem to have had the same problems as myself so I know it isn't something specific only to my machine.
And your post leads me to wonder if you can read, because clearly you have not read a single blue post explaining the situation in this thread? Do you like hearing the sound of your voice (figuratively speaking) or what?

Ebon-Hawk: This is so funny...

Every time game goes live this happens on the first day just about to everyone.
Steam, GOG, Origin (that's a swear word, sorry)
And yes every time people complain as if it was the end of the world.

Computers are only as reliable as their operators and those in turn make one mistake every 20 lines of code per average.
That includes ISPs, their switches, their SANs and so forth.
1% of 100,000 (if that is the number of users trying to get this on day one) is still 1000 :)

Do yourself a favour, go out, have a coffee, enjoy some sunshine, it will be fixed in less than 24 hours and the world will go on.
Patience is a virtue :)

However, if you happen to be an early adopter... consider the validity of your complain.
Then consider the number of companies involved in a chain...
Then PLEASE try not to blame CD Projekt or GOG.com for bad weather tomorrow.
You raise some good points, but you can't invalidate somebody's feelings of frustration just like that - it's not the end of the word, but people still have every right to vent. Yes, mistakes happens, yes it will be fixed eventually, in all likelihood sooner rather than later, but acting above people who have legitimate reasons to be frustrated is just ridiculous. I can only imagine how upset people with a bandwidth cap are - or people who have tried the (apparent) fixes listed here with no success.

It's not like people want to be frustrated and are looking for any excuse they can - this thread has actually been quite civil from everything I've read - we just all really, really fucking enjoy the Witcher 2 and want to play it - that's all.
Is this:

"setup_the_witcher_2_ee_3.0.1.17-1.bin" - 2.048.387 KB
"setup_the_witcher_2_ee_3.0.1.17-2.bin" - 2.050.782 KB
"setup_the_witcher_2_ee_3.0.1.17-3.bin" - 2.050.782 KB

correct ?

Or do i have to download the first "big Part" again ?
Really disappointed in this overall fiasco.

Re-downloaded the game yesterday because the EE patch screwed it all up being corrupt. It took 9 hours. Went to bed, got up to play only to find out that it has to download the patch again?

What a load of BS. What a bunch of morons. Their stupid patch bug cost me two extar days of waiting for damn downloads.

WORST EXPANSION LAUNCH EVER.

I will never buy any new games from GOG again. Is there a way I can register my GOG version of Witcher 2 with my Steam account. When I go to the order info page to get the serial number it's just a blank page.
Still I think some people severely lack sense of perspective.

When Apple released their iOS 5, you could not sign up for the new iCloud service for about 48 hours due to traffic. Then for the first month iCloud control panel experienced sync problems and that is even before one mentions the fact that Cloud mail push was broken for a lot of users till iOS 5.01 (which took a month to arrive). And with those facts you cannot deny the fact that Apple has 80 billion in cash reserves and is worthy 500 billion plus.

So here is the sense of perspective for you.

People make mistakes, there are many links in a chain, and making comments like "I will never buy a game from Gog" makes you look really stupid because the truth of it is that Gog offers a very good service in a niche market (no DRM, full downloads products with custom installers) and anyone patient enough to notice that while they are growing they STILL need to rely on third parties for much of their resource pool would at least understand that right there is a plenty of reason for mistakes to happen and that constructive criticism goes a long way over whining and bitching because you clicked a wrong button (but won't admit to that) or that you were caught in the early gold rush and happen to be the 1% of unlucky ones and gotten a corrupt file.

Use some common sense when dealing with computers. Well... on second thought disregard that, common sense is not that common, it is actually so rare it is more of a superpower these days.

I ran the files through a file checker and TW2EE_Patch-2.bin reads as corrupt from the downloader.

It seems to me like you're still acting as if it's totally unreasonable to be frustrated.

And then you go on so suggest it's probably the fault of the end-user, and, almost certainly, completely misrepresent the number of people effected.

1% of 1 000 000 is still 10 000 people, by the way - that's a small town.

Also, I don't understand the point you're trying to make about 'common sense' - is common sense in this case knowing that mistakes happen and being prepared for the worst? Because if it is, that doesn't mean people still can't and won't be pissed when they download something multiple times only to run in to problems again and again - this is just human nature, and trying to rationalize away people's feelings is futile.

You know how the best way to make an angry person angrier is to tell them to 'calm down'? That's because you're implying they have no right to feel the way they do - people experiencing problems with the patching system have every right to be upset - how much they embrace that anger is up to them, but trying to suggest they have no right to be upset by lecturing them about perspective, or saying 'people make mistakes' and 'there are many links in a chain' is just plain silly.
Let me re-phrase it...

After working in IT for 15 years, this, this whole thing people are complaining about (regardless of the validity of the complain) is NOTHING comparing to what I have seen.

So there you have it, it is not unreasonable for you to complain (if done so in constructive manner), it is not unreasonable for you to be frustrated, what is is unreasonable for you is to expect perfection while knowing the situation what is unreasonable for you is to demonstrate complete lack of patience when you should have known better (this is what I call a common sense).

I am not going to waste my time trying to explain how Internet was never intended to be a business or gaming tool given its design, how PCs are imperfect and how an average statistic suggests 10k errors in broad user base every hour in OS like Windows alone. If those statistics mean nothing to you they will still mean nothing to you after I am done. You and I have completely different sense of perspective so let's agree to disagree.

In the end... the change starts with you, if you are not willing to be the change you want to see then there is really no point is there. I am barking at a wrong tree and once again picked up a battle one cannot win...

Nobody expects distribution to be perfect, they expect (or rather hope) that they won't be one of unfortunate ones that has issues.

Anger and frustration over these issues is to be expected just as flaws and imperfections in code are to be expected

Your 15 years in IT grants you perspective others don't have - you can't transfer that to somebody else through a lecture, no matter how good the lecture is - and you especially can't do it by alluding to the preciousness of your time and how it's being wasted on this conversation.

You're right - this is a battle you can't win, because this isn't a battle and there are no winners or losers - simply errors and angry people - it's useless to try to explain to somebody why they shouldn't be upset, and it's ridiculous to expect a distribution and patching system to have a 100% success rate - let people vent, their frustration is as inevitable as the errors that are making them mad.
Guess I'm not the only one that had to download the whole game from gog 4 times and still can't install it because the installer keeps saying there are corrupt parts.

I guess the only thing I can do is wait for now. I'll just play some other stuff for the following weeks and see if everything's been sorted out by then.

For the record: the problem I'm having after downloading the whole game with the gog downloader 4 times is that after the sanity check it keeps prompting that several parts (mostly part 1 and 5) are corrupted and need to be downloaded manually. If anyone has any advice about how to make it work, I'll be very grateful. If not, as I said before, I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks or even months until they sort this out.

Thanks in advance
Interesting feedback...

I am downloading the whole install manually, it has been few hours now, so once I am done I will let you know how I went, I wonder if the installer has cache problems or something else.
Greetings,

I have now finished downloading all EE installation files using manual process from the website (all 10 of them). I have also downloaded all the zipped extras. The total comes to around 19GB.

I tested zipped files' integrity (test function in WinRAR) and all checks passed.
I proceeded to install Witcher 2 EE using the abone noted manually downloaded files and the installation completed without error (no errors in the Event Viewer past the two warnings related to .Net 4 IIS references which can be safely ignored and only take place if you have not installed .Net 4 before)

This was a fresh installation on Windows 7 Pro x64 with i7, nVidia 570 and 12GB RAM.
Custom installation folder was specified on second internal HDD (so NOT in Program Files).
The game runs fine, the intro played flawlessly the cartoon movie about the Witchers (from Extras menu) played flawlessly and the Arena feature, dialogues, videos and first 3 fights played very well (run on Ultra High settings without Uber Sampling).

I am using February 2012 dated nVidia drivers (not the latest version) happy to provide additional information on the setup upon request.
However, if you are STILL having problems with automatic installer or patching system please use manual download process and install the game the discussed above.

Hope this help...
Kind Regards
EH

I've tried all the fixes everyone has listed and still it isn't working. This is like a cruel joke. I've un/re-installed and downloaded again... still errors. Any real fix from the devs yet or am I going to have to demand my money back?

I am sorry you have this problem, however it does not changes the fact that, as listed above, I have no problems with the product and for the benefit of others have listed the procedure I have followed...

Admittedly there is a lot of room for complications where computers are concerned and in most cases it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

I'm very glad yours is working. Mine was working great as well... BEFORE the crap patch. There has to be a reason why some people can use that work around successfully and others like myself cannot. Maybe the devs can get us a proper fix soon.
