I wish I could read polish, I'm sick of waiting for these stupid translations. Fantasy is all I read and I feel like I'm missing out on one of the best fantasy book series out there.

Game of Thrones has some unique characters for a PC game, too. Amazing story, would be an all-time best game i say.

I totally want to read about Ciri beyond what little you get in the Blood of Elves. I wonder if she'll show up at some point or if she's gone for good. At least they mentioned her in this game, so who knows.

Some Polish guy with way too much time on his hands will go ahead and translate them as a fanlation. I believe! ;p The english publisher doesn't instill any confidence in me that they will ever actually publish all the books, since they didn't even publish them in order for the two they have released. I believe they skipped a book in between the two they've published so far.

To be honest, I'm hoping the popularity of this game pushes the book publishers to try and get more translations out there. The market is certainly there, and the game will just make people more aware of the witcher world.

A Game of Thrones is currently being worked on as a video game, but my initial impressions from what I've seen is that it's going to just be a typically generic strategy game that is more about taking over castles and what not than being a story-driven plot.

The best thing about the Witcher video games is they aren't re-telling the books, or loosely basing it off the books, but it can almost be seen as a simple continuation of the books in video game format. It's so rare that a game does that.

Do you read any French or Spanish? I believe most of the volumes are out in those languages now. I had to read the German translations because I can't read Polish either.

There's a lot more Ciri coming up in the books, and I imagine she's in CDPR's plans somehow, but she's a tricky character. In the books she really has her own storyline. She's almost co-equal with Geralt, so that may make her more difficult for the game devs to handle since they've committed to Geralt as their protagonist. (I'm so glad about that, btw. I am not a fan of Ciri, though I don't want to tell other people not to be. She's a good character. She just rubs me the wrong way.)

Sadly no. All I can speak is English, although being Canadian I really should have taken the opportunity to learn French, all our schools teach it.

I'm that way with Spanish. Feel like a dolt now. Oh well. The Witcher wiki has some short summaries if you don't mind spoilers. People sometimes complain about the two books that have been translated into English, but I think they read well. They're also the most important in relation to the games because they establish the characters and nature of the world.

To come back to Yennefer, since she's the topic of the thread and I feel bad for wandering away from her, she's awesome but I prefer Triss. I even prefer Triss in the books, and I love that the games take her in the direction that she seemed to be going in Sapkowski--good heart, insecure but getting stronger, gets herself and others into trouble by trying to fix the world. Yennefer is a good character, but she's almost too cool for school. She stays out of trouble and pursues her personal interests as much as possible, which is fine, but it's less interesting to read about or play.

I expect I will have a ton of fun reading about the rich behind-the-sceens story decision excitment and discussion over the next couple of years. I had a permanent smile on my dial though-out the whole thread read [big grin].

Aw man, I rushed to the store after finishing TW2 and picked up whatever they had, which was only 'The Last Wish' and 'Blood of The Elves' - I read most of the first book in a single sitting, totally captivated, just to find out today that those two books are the only ones translated

Yes, Gollancz is the publisher--a UK company. They like to drag their feet for some reason. They also skipped a second volume of short stories, Sword of Destiny (does a lot of the work expanding on Geralt and Yennefer's stormy relationship and features another dragon), and jumped straight to Blood of Elves. I really like BoE, and you'll see plenty of characters you know, but it's aggravating that the publisher has so little confidence in the series as a whole.

Well hell, I've read the whole Saga with short stories as well in writer's native language, so I feel a little odd in this thread.

Thanks for the info. I'll be emailing the publishers and telling my friends who are into the series to do so as well. Probably won't do anything, but I'd rather annoy them about it than do nothing.

No, no. Not to worry. Welcome, welcome. So what would you like to see from the quest to find Yennefer? I kind of like the OP's idea, but that's because it would give everyone--Triss, Geralt, Yennefer herself--more to do. Lots of intense narrative, multiple storylines, good stuff.
