dedoporno: snip
This is the biggest embarrassment I had to be part of this whole month. I'm legit questioning my intellect for missing something as basic as that. I'm deeply ashamed of this. I won't be able to brag about how smart I am for days to come... I'm still staring at my laptop screen with a stupid puzzled face that people get when they have one of those 9gag-ian meme realizations...
Dedo, seriously. This shit got to me....
What the heck is wrong with me? Nah, it has to be the stats. I can't explain it to myself....

What in the blissful summer night is going on?
avatar
flubbucket: What do I think about what?? ............HijacK's claim?? .
avatar
dedoporno: And Yog's. The whole ordeal.

avatar
flubbucket: yogsloth is dead and I had nothing to do with it. As far as what I intend to do with the allegation.....I did vote.
avatar
dedoporno: I haven't said that you had something to do with it. I said that you were pondering over lynching him to prove his claim. Seeing docbear's claim I would assume that we wouldn't have gotten much more if Yog was lynched rather than night-killed so I was curious if that newly acquired information is coming in handy.

avatar
flubbucket: I never used the word proof.
avatar
dedoporno: My bad. You used the word "prove".
I already stated my opinion regarding yogsloth's level of truthiness.

I have no way of knowing whether the lynch-flip or Nightkill-flip would show differently. I know what he said. However is he actually scum and lying or town with a mafia reveal under all circumstances.

I think he was actually mafia.
Unvote: HijacK
avatar
HijacK: I went to weigh myself and realized I gained 5 pounds during finals week. Stress eating is the worst.

*refreshes*

avatar
dedoporno: Otherwise I might offend said player by believing they aren't capable of executing a such a play properly.
avatar
HijacK: Hmmmmmm.....

.....

..... Touche! .....

avatar
dedoporno: And yes, if flub claims he is the TOWN ARSONIST again - he dead.
avatar
HijacK: Oh, boy, you're going to hate my claim...

I think RW is a legit troll mod though.

avatar
dedoporno: Are you saying you are a good lynch then?
avatar
HijacK: Not for town, but I definitely have value. For someone that is scum, like yog seems to have been judging based on flip, I'm one important role, one important character, with one important outlook on things. This, and it would have given scum one easy day to breeze through and another night of killings. I bet they are hoping for non-gimped ones.

Anyway, on to the role claim:

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen! (or at least I'm assuming there's still more than one of each kind left)

I am here to come clean and have a nice debate with you regarding my role. :) As you may recall, I have claimed "Muscle" and heavily implied a defensive ability. That is mostly true, however, I have left one more detail around to give more indication. If you recall, I was asked to give examples of other roles that fit the "Muscle" ambiguous description. We all have a pretty standard schema for what an individual fitting the description of "Muscle" looks like, and that schema is mostly right. However, I do hope you have noticed that I mentioned both the Bodyguard and the Bomb. The reason for that is because I am a combination of them. Elite Bodyguard, to be more exact.
Let me give you the full rundown. I am a former Road Captain that also used to be the personal protection of my former boss, in addition of being his best friend. The gang got wiped out during one messy encounter with a rival gang, with my exception because I was busy on the toilet at my lady's place. Since I am old and remained gang-less (pls no porn jokes), I decided to rest for the rest of my days and make new friends since I lost them all. I retain the apparel from my old days with the gang, hence why I look as if I was mafia.

Yes, I am a gun owner. The reason for this is because one of my abilities involves a reactionary attribute.

I have 3 powers:

Number one: I detect and flip as "Mafia". The leather jacket and sunglasses make me look like legit mafia.

Number two: I can protect one individual per night, with the exception of myself, for every night until my protected friend is in danger and I shall sacrifice myself for them.

Number three: I take down with me whomever assaults my friends, as long as I am there to defend them.

Win condition is the standard town win condition.

Disclaimer: The reactionary ability does not function if someone targets me directly.
So now we are basing whether people are Mafia just on looks?? That sounds legit...
So you sacrifice yourself for your friend and shoot someone at the same time? That sounds legit too...

Sounds like to me you are claiming a town protective role to get out of being lynched and saying you'll read as Mafia because of your looks to cover yourself if being investigated.

Not moving my vote anytime soon.
avatar
flubbucket: I think he was actually mafia.
In that case what do you think about Hijack? Do you think he is mafia as well? Or do you believe his claim?

avatar
trentonlf: So you sacrifice yourself for your friend and shoot someone at the same time? That sounds legit too...
Without saying I buy the whole claim I have to say this is among the more believable things I read in the past few days.
avatar
cristigale: @HijacK - Does your claim shed light on why you are alive?
Is this all you have to say after seeing the mayhem that took place N1?

avatar
JMich: People already posted that Godfather roles are quite common in role madness games, but they are not a given. Seeing how this game has 2 claimed millers (who may or may not be), does that change the chances of Godfather(s) being present in the game? [...]
I'm not sure I follow - how can the chances of Godfather(s) being in play be influenced by the Millers, if the claims are not true?

avatar
JMich: [...] Then again, there are quite a few killing roles so there may not even be a mafia faction, but just people killing each other (just like every retirement home I guess?).
Would this be a good time for you to share if, and who, you killed last Night?

avatar
JMich: Too many killing roles. Makes me wonder how many of us are not killers.
Waiting for HijacK's claim, knowing how busy RL can get, I'm not willing to go after someone asking for RL time before said time has passed.[...]
OK, I see you say you didn't kill anyone, and that you can't kill anyone either. Moving on, for now.

He claimed. Anything to say?

Also, what about yogsloth's claim? What about the dead, and their flips?

Wondering is good and all, but It'd be appreciated if you'd crank up your participation. So far, the most content we got from you is your post #532 from D1 - did any of that change or evolved? If yes, why and how? If not, why? Also, you didn't share what you thought after that re-read of Lifthrasil.

avatar
JMich: [...] Wondering why I agreed to sub.
Hopefully not to proudly walk in the footsteps of your predecessor.

avatar
dedoporno: [...] Yog said that he will flip as Mafia Something (Goon/Thug/Hitman) [...]

Investigated? Sure, he reads falsely as Mafia Goon. [...]
[emphasis added]

Why do you bring up Goon/Thug? How could he be investigated as "Mafia Goon"?

avatar
dedoporno: [...] but at one point I did. [...]
How so? Elaborate.

avatar
flubbucket: Unvote: HijacK
What reason(s) for did you unvote him?
Well, I don't believe the claim. It reads reasonable but HijacK could have tailored it to read reasonable according to all information that is around. Also making it sound important and useful to town. To me it appears to be taking parts of other roles that are out there. He jumped on Yog's claim after that was half accepted because it seemed like a good way to forestall the investigative powers that are probably around. Today he saw that it looks like Bookwyrm had some sort of 'Bomb' like reactive killing power and took that too and combined it with the previously hinted Bodyguard ability. Not that a reactive killing power is unreasonable but the way HijacK claimed - and insisted that he had to be around to answer any critique of his claim in real time - reeks of scum tailoring a convenient claim. I stick with my opinion that HijacK is definitely not town and I leave my vote where it is.

But HijacK, maybe you can explain one thing: why did you (pretend to) find it so scummy yesterday when I understood from your half claim that you have some sort of killing power? I mean, now you claim to have a killing power. So what is so scummy about guessing the truth? You pretended that that was a totally unreasonable assumption and not at all what you meant, implying that you don't have a killing power but something else that 'Muscle' would fit to. Why?
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Why do you bring up Goon/Thug? How could he be investigated as "Mafia Goon"?
I wasn't sure what the actual claimed role was when I wrote that.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: How so? Elaborate.
Nope. Maybe some other time.
avatar
dedoporno: How is this not perfectly clear? Aren't you supposed to be dead if your night action went off? What other information did you expect to get?
avatar
HijacK: Hmmmm....

I'll be damned....

How the hell haven't I figured this out by now?

*slaps forehead*

Ok, I think I'm out. Lack of sleep is obviously messing with me and I'm missing the point of basic concepts....
This is not the HijacK I remember playing with. Which means that either HijacK has gotten dumber while in college (plausible?), that he is indeed not getting any kind of sleep, or that he is lying. Considering all the killing going on, I find the lying to be the more likely scenario, though I won't be voting for him until he finishes with the RL commitments he has. Quite willing to do so though, unless someone else manages to raise a bigger flag.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: I'm not sure I follow - how can the chances of Godfather(s) being in play be influenced by the Millers, if the claims are not true?
Comment was made back on D1, when the miller claims weren't yet disproved (are they disproven now though? By whom?). So if the moderator is messing with our investigative roles by dropping millers in, does that make godfathers more or less likely than a role madness game with no millers?
Mostly idle curiosity and a warning to not blindly trust any town results we may get.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: He claimed. Anything to say?
Yes. See above.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: Also, what about yogsloth's claim? What about the dead, and their flips?
What about them? Still no way to know for sure anything about yog, and the dead and their flips also don't give us much at this point. The quotation marks may be a hint, but do they mean true or not?

avatar
HypersomniacLive: Wondering is good and all, but It'd be appreciated if you'd crank up your participation.
Appreciated by whom exactly? And no, unless I do have something interesting to add, I am content with watching. Who knows, maybe we'll be seeing some tracks of the killers still left alive.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: Also, you didn't share what you thought after that re-read of Lifthrasil.
Well, that would mean I've actually done said re-read. Might actually have to do that later on though.
@HijacK, on a side, and somewhat unrelated, note - before judging the current state of the community, and some of the reactions, I advice you to inform and educate yourself on the events that transpired during your off time here and led to where we are today.

avatar
HijacK: [...] I did suggest that. However, I no longer believe that is the case. Given this latter detail, I'm not going to cover the rest of the theory. [...]
I'm still interested in what made you consider said theory, and what made you change your mind. Basically, I'm interested in the thought process.

avatar
HijacK: [...] Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems rather faulty to judge a claim based on claims from, metaphorically, eons ago. Sure, some people bought that lie and Scum won, but they should get over themselves at this point. As scum, most people will have to fake a claim at some point, unless of course they are mafia doctor. So it should come as no surprise that in role madness games in a community that is well known to have lots of creativity as far as roles go, judgement based on previous experience is a pit that prevents any decent critical thinking and analysis of the current game. Would you always hold it against flub for claiming Town Arsonist?
That was not my point. The point is that exactly because people are creative and capable of pulling off all sorts of far fetched claims, some better than others, it's unreasonable to expect that things you say and claim won't be questioned and scrutinised; doesn't matter if it's a modest or extreme claim, doesn't matter if it's true or fake, we don't have a way of knowing which it is, and taking your word for it would be poor play. It's all part of analysing and critical thinking.

avatar
HijacK: [...] I hope that the realization you have answered your own question has struck you. [...]
Let me rephrase this, in case you really didn't get my point.

D2 starts. You're the first one to post. You mention you have a gun. For the very fist time. Logic dictates that people start reading the thread at the mod's D2 break post, assuming they're caught up with previous posts, as would be the case of cristigale since she was on during EOD.

Not ten posts later, you reply to her, and use the term "If you will recall" to bring up the mention of owning a gun, as if you had provided that piece of info like fifty or a hundred posts back, and had to refresh her memory.

IMHO, it hardly qualified for a reminder, and I file the way you prefaced it as part of he little word games you're playing.

I'm skipping the rest as I see that your defence for just about everything is basically "I won't feed the he wolves". May have some truth in it, but it conveniently leaves no room for debate.

avatar
HijacK: [...] Yogy could have escaped further questioning. [...]
This is interesting. Did you believe his claim to be true? If yes, have you changed your mind, and why?

avatar
HijacK: [...] You see, there is a discrepancy between what he flipped and what I would flip.[...]
What discrepancy would that be? Based on the "no role flips" rule, and what we got so far, yogsloth flipped Mafia, and so will you, especially if your claim is true.

avatar
HijacK: [...] Again, I received no information, thus I do not know. I'm guessing I didn't, but I do not know that for a fact. Your beliefs, however, are your concern in this regard.

Can I just call WIFOM on this? This rhetoric is honestly getting old. [...]
It's not a matter of personal beliefs, it's a matter of logic, and that's what I'm pointing out - if you apply logic, it's puzzling at best that you entertain all these cases and arguing about them at length. More so since you claim to be Elite Bodyguard, which is not something you just found out.

You can call it "rhetoric getting old" all you want, but it just doesn't add up from a townie mindset and thought process - you are way too concerned about looking bad, and trying to anticipate anything that may be linked/tied to you before anyone even expresses the slightest hint or accusation.

avatar
HijacK: [...] It does, and it will continue to do so. I am not the type to "spill the beans" on everything and leave everything exposed for the exploitation of wolfies. Whether you think this is a townie or anti-townie gameplay style... well, that's just you. [...]
It's not a matter of gameplay style, and I get the not wanting to "spill the beans" in one go. It's about the flow, and how the questions asked and the added pieces work, or don't work, in relation to what you've already claimed and to ongoing discussions, both content and time wise. For someone advocating players to be critical, you seem pretty averse to it when it's you that comes under the lens. And frequently resorting to AtE as a closing to your arguments doesn't do you any favours either.

More to follow.

HypersomniacLive: You can call it "rhetoric getting old" all you want, but it just doesn't add up from a townie mindset and thought process - you are way too concerned about looking bad, and trying to anticipate anything that may be linked/tied to you before anyone even expresses the slightest hint or accusation.
This is what bothers me the most. Applies to yog as well. Both claims seem way too convenient since they provide "innocent" explanation for so much different scenarios that might put their owners in a bad light. You mentioned earlier how Hijack took some time to comment on how his protection may or may not be part of the killings. This again felt like a pre-emptive defense in case of need.

"Hey! I saw Hijack killing bler!"
"Oooh! Then I guess he tried to attack cristi so I got him."

Only later we found out that the defensive kill would also bring Hijack's demise, so such a cover-up won't work anymore.

Which reminds me of an important question - cristi, were you informed of being guarded?
avatar
HijacK: [...] I can't do nothing about that. [...]
So, you can do something about that. OK.

avatar
HijacK: [...] Maybe experience will change your mindset, or maybe it won't. I'd rather not spend energy on that. [...]
I'm pretty sure I never claimed to be a Professional Mafia Player, quite the contrary, actually as I've never denied or hidden that my experience in forum mafia is limited. But thanks for the ever so subtle condescension.

avatar
HijacK: [...] I had already written my claim post during the night. [...]
So, you were sure you'd be still around come D2? Interesting.

avatar
HijacK: [...] I find it insulting that even though you think I am not town, you don't think I am capable of coming up with something unless I necessarily had more info. Please, I got more skills than that.[...]
For someone that hands out advice to players left and right to improve their reading skills, you seem to suffer from the same shortcoming. Or just pretend to when you don't really have actual counterarguments, right before that AtE reaction comes in again.

If your claim is fake, you've come up with plenty already. And I very clearly said that it looks to me that the additional info would serve to fill in any holes, scrap any contradictions, and make sure to avoid discrepancies, the best way you can, not only in whatever you had planned ahead, but also in any counterarguments you make. It's right there in the bit you quoted.

avatar
HijacK: [...] Because you are looking at it from a biased viewpoint. I was merely surprised I got not details on my night action. I wanted ito know f there is a pattern to this. [...]
[emphasis added]

And here you go again. What difference does it make to know f there's a pattern or not?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that protective roles are usually not told anything as to the success or failure of their night-actions, and that they have to deduce from the info given at Day break.

So if you are a protective role, you shouldn't expect to be told anything, nor be surprised that you weren't. More so as the Elite Bodyguard you claim to be, as you'd be dead if you had successfully protected whom you said that you did. I already told you this, but you're either not reading, or too preoccupied with looking more innocent that you actually need to be.

avatar
HijacK: [...]I have to say it's making me sad because I think you're town, [...]
Well then, I guess I should stop questioning you, take whatever you say at face value, file you as cleared Town, and never look your way again.

avatar
HijacK: [...] I guess, in retrospect, I would expect some details in my PM about it, but I guess I was just too surprised about it. [...]
[emphasis added]

So, did you receive a PM about your night-action after all, or didn't you?

avatar
HijacK: [...] I'll look for it later. Thought I recall clothing being discussed, albeit briefly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was me that even brought it up. [...]
You mean prior to your post #597? I already said how that looks to me, and the only other reference by you to clothes affecting the flip was about yourself. So yes, please point out yogsloth's post as soon as you can.

avatar
HijacK: [...] I have 3 powers:

Number one: I detect and flip as "Mafia". The leather jacket and sunglasses make me look like legit mafia.[...].
How on earth is "detecting and flipping Mafia" a power? Especially if you're Town as you claim?

avatar
dedoporno: [...] Speaking of irony, I believe Wyrm was PGO or similar and killed his attacker drealmer while getting stabbed :D [...]
Do you think there may be a link between the quotation marks on his flip and him being a PGO (or similar)?
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Do you think there may be a link between the quotation marks on his flip and him being a PGO (or similar)?
I have no idea. Possibly. The quotes may represent a false/inacurate alignment or some potential for harming your own allies or something even more convoluted. It could be anything. I suspect we will be getting additional partial reveals on a Daily basis for older information like we did with gogtrial and adalia, so things might get clearer as we progress.

As for the role he might not be PGO and drealmer may have been killed by yer another person. I only guessed PGO since Wyrm said if he claims he will probably get lynched and later on said that we'll laugh once we get that claim. With our history of PGO related situations this made the most sense.

So you think a legitimate role would be someone has the power to protect someone from being killed by dying for them and at the same time killing the person trying to kill who they are protecting? That would be way overpowered.
avatar
trentonlf: So you think a legitimate role would be someone has the power to protect someone from being killed by dying for them and at the same time killing the person trying to kill who they are protecting? That would be way overpowered.
Is it that overpowered? You kill and die in the process. The false flip is balancing out the strength of the role. I'm not saying I believe the claim but don't think it's that far-fetched either (the Bodyguard related powers). I mean, you believed the TOWN ARSONIST :D
