Hi, everyone. Welcome to GOG Mafia game #55

This is a game of forum Mafia. Please don't post here unless you've been directed here from the sign up thread or PM, or were otherwise told by the admin that you should post here.

Direct any queries you may have to the the the General Discussion and Administration Pages.

Rules:

0. ZFR is the moderator for this game. If you have any issues, contact him via PM.

1. Cryptoclaiming is forbidden.
(In short, cryptoclaiming is having everyone fullclaim in some sort of (preferably nearly unbreakable) code, which makes it all but impossible for the mafia to win.)

2. Betting among players is strictly forbidden.

3. Real Life issues and situations should and will always take priority over what happens in the game. If a player presents a real life issue as a reason on why they need a bit more time or are temporarily unavailable to partake normally in the game that reason should be accepted and respected by everyone else (including the mod). Everyone should always treat real life problems/situations in a gentlemanly manner and never try to make accusations or gain leverage in the game based on that. If these issues become too overwhelming the incapacitated player should inform their mod and ask for a replacement as soon as possible or if they are unable to do so the mod should take steps in finding a replacement for them. Everyone should be playing the game for fun and treat each other with the necessary respect. Therefore we shall always assume that every real life reason for inefficient participation in the game is 100% real and has to be taken as such. We shall also count on everyone playing the game to show proper respect and sportsmanship to their fellow players and the mod by never abusing this "free pass". If someone is caught taking advantage of everyone's good will they will be immediately allowed to find another place to play forum mafia.

4. Have fun and enjoy the game. While shouting at each other is expected in a game of mafia, please remain civil to your fellow players.

5. You don't need to unvote, but your votes should be bolded. Unbolded votes will not be counted.

6. Please bold any questions you have for me, so it's easier for me to see them. Please do not use bold for any other reason, if you need to stress a point, use italics or underline instead.

7. It goes without saying that discussing this game outside this thread is prohibited.

8. Do not edit your posts for any reason. Remember there is a forum feature that automatically merges posts made within 10 minutes. There is also a forum bug which prevents your post from appearing sometimes when it should appear on a new page. Making a second post in this case after less than 10 minutes can cause your post to be merged and appear edited.

9. If you die, stop posting in this thread. A single "bah" post is allowed and encouraged. Your "bah" post should not contain any useful information.

10. You are expected to make a post at least once every 48 hours. If you need to be away for longer, please let me know in advance.

11. You may write about any flavour you receive in your PM (see Notes about the game below), including your name and role, but please do not quote any PM verbatim.

12. Breaking rules, depending on the severity of the infraction, can get you modkilled at my discretion. Getting modkilled can be hazardous to your health and means you lose regardless of whether your team wins or loses. It's also bad in general. Please don't get modkilled.

13. Once a majority votes for a player, that player gets lynched. No amount of unvoting is going to help them.

14. If no majority vote is achieved before day ends, then no lynch takes place.

Notes about the game:

The format is going to be a C9++ game, but with a twist. The twist will not involve any cult elements; no player's team (or win conditions) will change during the course of the game.

I'm not good at flavour, so don't expect anything good there. I'll try my best to make it interesting though.

The game is set in the world of the game Papers, Please. However no spoilers are contained in this game.

Note that anything in flavour is just fluff. Anything game related will be stated clearly. So please do not look into flavour text for any deep meaning. In fact, if I can't think of a good flavour explanation of something, then screw it, I'll just make it magically appear. If I need lightning from heaven to appear, then lightning from heaven will appear.

All kills, regardless of flavour text, are indistinguishable. All kills (except lynches) are done with a generic weapon, and all people who can kill (except through lynch) do so with a weapon (i.e. it's not possible to kill without a weapon, like through arson). If there is a gunsmith in the game he essentailly becomes a weaponsmith.
Names are just fluff. I chose 13 names from the game and assigned them after randomizing their order. They're only included because it's nice to have names, so again do not look into them for any special meaning; they're just flavour.
British English spelling of flavour is preferred. If you write "flavor" you will be ridiculed.

random.org was used for all randomizing. I love random.org. Did you know it's based in Ireland?

Sample vanilla town PM:

Hi, adaliabooks. You are Kaevink Caullinski, a simple boot camp recruit (Vanilla Townie). You have no abilities other than your voice and your vote. You win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated and there is at least one Town player alive.

"Congratulations. The October elite special forces commandos lottery is complete. Your name was pulled. For immediate placement, report to the The Ministry of War at East Grestin. You, together with other lottery winners will be taken to a secret mountain boot camp, where we'll make a commando out of you. Glory to Arstotzka."

You get to the secret mountain boot camp together with 12 other recruits. At first everything goes well. Few days later however, trouble begins. Accidents start happening. Weapons jam, empty training shells are replaced with live ammo, fuel supplies get blown up and driking water gets peed in. Soon, everyone is sure of one thing: these are no accidents; they are acts of sabotage. Kolechian agents must have infiltrated the secret camp.

When one day the communication system is found completely destroyed the seriousness of the situation becomes clear. You're completely cut off from the Arsotzkan HQ. You have no idea when help will arrive. If ever. Your only chance of survival is to uncover those Kolechian saboteurs. Before they kill you.

Everyone agrees that flubbucket is the most suspicious character. And probably the culprit. He's beaten up and tied. Then everyone goes to his tent and looks through his personal belongings. The detailed search through his stuff leaves little doubt: flubbucket is a model citizen. He's a respected member of society and a pillar of his community. Looks like you've got the wrong person.

flubbucket is Filipe Hasse - Innocent Child (Town)

This revelation does nothing to calm everyone's temper. Tensions are high. The next person found acting suspiciously will probably end up more than just beaten up...

The game has started. You may now post.

The remainder of this post will contain list of players, with their roles as they get revealed and links to relevant posts.
If you're reading this in the future and would prefer to maintain the surprise, skip to Post 3.

Very nicely written rules, ZFR! I shall have to steal them in future. :)

As mentioned in the sign-up thread my posting may be a bit spotty for a bit since I'm looking after my flatmate while she's ill - I'm in the hospital with her just now. Hopefully nobody mistakes that for lurking, that would be very out of character for me.

I was going to say that I'll try to get at least a few posts in before I RVS flub, but now I guess I'll need to [s]invent[/s] find some reason to vote for someone else.

Also, not to be unpatriotic, I'm not sure about all this Kolechian dreck. I blame all the problems we've been having on our nation's founders, who were poor and extremely illiterate peasants from Astrakhan led by a conman. (As an illiterate peasant myself, I can say that without it being construed as offensive.)
Vote Flub

I've seen this "Flub is Town" crap before. It's fatal to believe such flavor bollocks. His parlor might be my neighbor, but his color ain't patriotic.
D1 will end sometime mid next week.

I'll give the exact end time at least 48 hours in advance.

I like the cut of your jib.
Vote Hunter

You should never believe flub, the one time I did he burned me
Ah, the Day just started and already two enemy saboteurs have revealed themselves. Bookwyrm, while I do agree that flubb always looks totally scumme, even if he didn't write anything yet, voting for the one confirmed loyal citizen is very scummy.

But even worse, Poppy is doubting the existence of Kolechian saboteurs and even dares to blame the esteemed founders of our glorious nation for our current problems. That alone is grounds for an execution!

vote Poppy
Added a sample vanilla PM, because apparently all the cool mods do it.

Vote count

flub - 1: Bookwyrm
Hunger - 1: trentonlf
Poppy - 1: Lift

Everyone else - 0
Not voting: everyone else

With 13 players, it takes 7 to achieve lynch.
Well, damn you ZFR, now you've gone and made me add Papers Please to my wishlist. (I'd looked at it, but dismissed it due to graphics; now I read some of the reviews, and was swayed...)

vote Bookwyrm627 - I'm quite certain our glorious ministry of personal decorations has not yet issued guidance which would allow approval of that new avatar of yours!

ZFR: .................

flubbucket is a model citizen. He's a respected member of society and a pillar of his community. Looks like you've got the wrong person.

flubbucket is a model citizen.......you do have the wrong person.

I'm going back to "refilling" the water jugs.
Hi guys, I was told after my tunneling fail last game to sit back and observe and not play but I was itching to play again. I reckon this game is better to play in person because scum will struggle to hide their intentions from facial expressions. Where as online tells are far harder and I kept seeing things as tells that weren't there. Although in person you can't go back and read so we have that advantage at least.

Not voting just yet. Want to get a feel of the ground first.

I much prefer to play games where I'm not in the same room as the other players. Because I can see sounds and only power roles and werewolves shuffle about during the night, situations where I serve up 2/3 werewolves for the slaughter are a bit too common. I think that actually having to think about people's playing behaviour and use something resembling skill is more fun. :)

So is this definite ZFR or could it be a false call? If it is genuine it narrows it down to 11 of you.

If it is genuine are we getting these investigations each round?

I did wonder how night would work realtime. Do players simply close their eyes? That would make it a bit easy to cheat and spoil it.

The bold part (and any bold text in the future) is definite in the sense that it's mod information and not part of flavour fluff.

As for the other question, why don't we wait and see?

Also, please no edits. I was online and saw that it was a post merge, but please, pretty please, be careful. Repeated offenses might lead to modkill even if I'm sure it was accidental and not malicious.
