ZFR: Yes, bler.

I've got other suspects, but it's mostly for meta reasons and/or gut feelings. If someone put a gun to my head and asked for a top 3 scum it'd be bler, SPF for a meta reason I'd rather not mention, and HSL because his style of questioning seems scummy to me (though I really can't put my finger on why).
avatar
Vitek: Those are not good explanations.
I know. But I don't have better ones.

avatar
Vitek: You really don't understand what is wrong with mafia knowing who PR are? o_O
Of course I do. But I thought this would be offset by the advantage of town knowing who the power roles are. e.g. Doctor knowing whom to protect.
Since you and others are emphatic about role fishing being scummy then I believe you. But you asked me about what my feelings/suspicious were. And my initial feeling towards littlerabbit's role-fishing was exactly that: "Is it scum-indication? Hmm... I don't know".
avatar
ZFR: Damnation I see as town; I don't see him questioning me the way he did and reacting to my answers if he were mafia.
avatar
Vitek: I ceratinly can certainly think of reasons why he would do it as mafia as well as town.
For example? Can you give a reason why scum!Damnation would do this to town!me?
avatar
Vitek: In that previous game were you mafia or town?
???

I wasn't either then. before the game. I wouldn't send Bookwyrms PMs if we were in a game.

Seriously, are my posts that unintelligible?
avatar
Damnation: Well, considering flubbster mentioned that "Prange Pylon of Justice" may or may not ve mentioned in his role pm, I'd say it's closer to a soft flavour claim that anything here. And yes, it gives me an idea of who he is then, flavourwise.
avatar
littlerabbit: @Damn - explicitly - do you think this means Flub is a Town Cop?
This is bad! Rolefishing! I too am intrigued by damnation's claim but asking more about it at this stage can't help matters.

Damn I just deleted all the other points I'd addressed so far. Crud.

Maybe it's for the best as there was a slightly awkward me-accusing-zfr-of-guilt-tripping-everybody and then feeling-bad-in-case-zfr-wasn't-guilt-tripping-everybody.
Basically it's to do with him saying (roughly) "I'm sorry to town if I get myself lynched for being newbie and putting you all in a terrible position." (which he has since addressed, saying he thought a missedlunch on day one would be worse than in actuality) and "I'm not able to participate in these in jokes because I've only played two games before" (which is fair enough and we should try to avoid excluding new players.)
But in the context of knowing he subtly changed his writing style in previous games to try and encourage people to read them in a certain way, it makes me think he might be capable of deliberately attempting subtle manipulations.

But well yeah, I look like a dick if he turns out to be town and doing no such thing.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: At the point you made this post, Bookwyrm627 had made only post #6 (which you noticed yourself in your post #60). What made you say/think he seems sensible back then?

Similarly, what about ZFR's posts up to that point made you go from "no particular read" to "Seems confident? I've changed my mind. Cylon"?

Not sure if that was RVS (semi-)joking, but you did say those were your early impressions.
So yeah you're totally right! I'm not sure where I got the impression about bookwyrm - it's either that I was thinking of the impression I had of him from the sign-up, or I was confusing him with someone else. I wrote the post based on my memories of my first read through.

and as for zfr:

avatar
Vitek: @cristi; I think I have played with anyone at least once. Well maybe not ZFR... but he used to have different username too, right?
avatar
ZFR: No.

I played flub, HSL, trent, Bookwyrm in a mafia game, and cristi (barely) in Secret Hitler. This is my third game.

I used random.org in the previous game I played because what else?
this post might have given me bad vibes. Similar to what I picked up on later - short sentences give a dismissive tone. But it was a vote based on early impressions, and I didn't anticipate sticking with it for this long.

AND I assume you went back to my first post because you were looking for how the Zephyr lunchwagon started? I can't decide if I think that's mafia behaviour or town... I suppose it's less likely to be mafia if zfr is town...

I'll post this now and start addressing the other points. 10 minutes will certainly have passed by then.
avatar
JoeSapphire: But well yeah, I look like a dick if he turns out to be town and doing no such thing.
I'm town and doing no such thing!

avatar
JoeSapphire: Similar to what I picked up on later - short sentences give a dismissive tone.
It was an answer to whether I changed my nick and whom I played with for crying out loud. What. Kind. Of. Sentences. Did. You. Expect? An essay?
Are you trying to inflate your post count? :-)

avatar
ZFR: I wasn't either then.
You weren't mafia nor town in that game? Neutral then? :-)

avatar
ZFR: Seriously, are my posts that unintelligible?
Heh.
Funny thing is that I really read it that way at first.
That you were both mafia with Wyrm and he was giving you advices in scum chat.

Then I re-read it and after I understood it so I asked whether you were mafia or town in your previous and only (is that correct?) game.
It was not related to Bookwyrm anymore.

avatar
ZFR: For example? Can you give a reason why scum!Damnation would do this to town!me?
To get that low-hanging fruit in a form of new-ish player. There is bigger chance than with someone who already experienced it that they won't withstand that pressure and make a slip that can be easily interpreted as scummy (or is actually scummy if a pressured one is mafia and the other one town) and can lead to fairly easy (mis)lynch.
avatar
Vitek: Are you trying to inflate your post count? :-)
Sorry, force of habit. When I reply to a post on this forum that contains multiple questions I'm used to answering one, clicking Post my message. Rinse and repeat for next question(s) and have the forum software combine it into one post.
Sometimes I forget I'm in a mafia game, I do it out of habit and then have to wait 10 mins or for a friendly bump.

For the last time, in case that is not clear: I played only 1 game previously. I was town in that game. Before that game started Bookwyrm tutored me in chat and I asked lots of questions.
So while I thought it's curious that he answered my question, instead of going "stop role hunting!!!", it simply might have been him being used to answering my questions.

Is that clear now?
Sorry peeps, power went off while I was reading back and getting my posts together (#@$%&!!), thankfully Lazarus seems to have managed to save most of them. Let me go check properly and finish those, and catch up on the more recent posts.
avatar
ZFR: For the last time, in case that is not clear...
Sorry, that came out a bit too harsh than I wanted.
Thank you everyone for the encouraging words, I am very grateful for the support! I will be headed to the hospital within the hour, but will do my best to keep up on the game and post when I can.

ZFR: ...
My question for you is if you are town who on your wagon do you think is scum trying to push it along and why?
avatar
trentonlf: My question for you is if you are town who on your wagon do you think is scum trying to push it along and why?
I don't think it's you. Your post, even though Joe's post was first, was the one which I think caused my wagon to gain momentum. I don't think as scum you'd do it since you'll be under scrutiny after I flip town.
However if someone were scum, they'd jump on it like SPF did (and later unvote and revote to give the appearance that your jump wasn't too hasty). I also have a meta reason against SPF that I don't want to post but will do so after the game is over or in observer thread if there is one.
bler, yes. As stated above.

Joe - not sure... it could be me not being used to his posting style. I'm leaning on him being town. But again it could be me overcompensating for not liking his style.

rabbit - not sure.

I think that's everyone on my wagon.
avatar
trentonlf:
Good news and best wishes for you all!

avatar
trentonlf: @Vitek, I’m am 46 years old ;-)
Well you look twenty-six!
avatar
Bookwyrm627: That post was just...baffling, and not in a good way.
And yet earlier you told damnation that you weren't baffled by it, but rather "what the ever loving crap?" A VERY telling inconsistency!!

Ah... this joke makes no sense. Damnation said you might be showing "baffled concern" so I can see now how maybe you were deliberately quoting baffled, but omitting the concern. If you were I found it very amusing.

bler144: 2) I figured out what avatar I could use that would be super awesome. While you're at it, can you conduct an analysis of what avatar you think I might pick as each of the top 15-20 characters in the BSG canon?
Please do this! Puh-leeeeeeeease

avatar
elebutterfly: @Damnation, Joe, thoughts? Who could you lunch at this point?
Despite me doubting myself and feeling guilty if it's wrong I'm happy to stay on the ZFR lynch wagon.
I could lynch any of you really. I'm having super doubts about my town read of Vitek, but even those I'm fairly confident with (bler, bookwyrm) it's Day One and I don't know anything. And you gotta lynch someone!

avatar
Vitek: What's your current scumteam currently? Not 3 most suspicious player but who do you expect to be mafia team together?
Good point! There is a difference!

Regarding damnation & bookwyrm, I seem in minority having an urge to do just as bookwyrm did and start pulling apart the huge mess of misunderstandings and false conclusions that was damnation's post 281

ZFR: It was an answer to whether I changed my nick and whom I played with for crying out loud. What. Kind. Of. Sentences. Did. You. Expect? An essay?
yeah fair enough. As I say these were my first impressions. We're going back to my first post of the game here. I enjoy your frustration.
avatar
bler144: [...] I was going off memory, which is probably....not 100% correct. [...]
Would you agree that making/building arguments on memory allows for a rather easy/convenient way out if/when said arguments are questioned and disproven?

avatar
bler144: [...] The better question is, "why vitek, considering you know he's not actually going to answer anyway?" [...]
The even better question is, why are you avoiding answering my initial question? Am I to infer I’m not getting an answer, period?

avatar
bler144: [...] 3) Fair point, to a point. However providing no explanation at all means being potentially asked to defend either the reason or the whom. You chose them for some reason, ultimately, whether or not it's meaningful. Random.org moves that responsibility entirely off the player. And saying "heh," while not particularly revealing, is still committing to an answer. [...]
You spoke of "tone-reading", and that’s what my comment/counterargument was about.

avatar
bler144: [...] As noted I wouldn't have voted wyrm (or you, or cristi) for the same, so there is a deeper reason, but none of it speaks to flub's alignment either way. [...]
I don't get it, if even your deeper reason doesn't speak to his alignment, why did you jump on him with cristigale?

avatar
bler144: [...] I'm not sure why you actually took up 2) at this point along. ;)
To disagree with you of course, why else?

Jokes aside, I didn't read that as all that much of "putting himself on the hook to justify a scumread [etc.]", exactly because of "everyone else is just fartin' around and two posters can't even be assed to half-ass their RVS votes". Scum!Vitek could take a few directions to justify or “justify" his claim in that environment, and he’d have ample to time to pick one (the first inquiry about it didn't come before your post #45).
So I don’t lean either way on this, and him, as I can’t (tone) read Vitek. Other things he’s said later are reasonable/sensible, but a little voice warns me not to be quick to trust him. Or anyone else for that matter.

avatar
bler144: […] I ISOed your posts in this game, then looked through the QT you linked, and it made me curious so I looked at the actual game a bit. Don't tell HSL I did that though, ok? […]
Jerk!

avatar
bler144: [...] WB! Again. But seriously, I hope everything works out, both b/c I want you to stay in-game and b/c I want things to be okay for you and the fam IRL. [...]
Nah, you just don't want me to move in with Vitek and flubbucket. Now that I think about it, not sure I actually want either.

avatar
ZFR: He was far from being in immediate danger of being lynched. If he or someone pointed out that's his usual side I could always unvote.
avatar
bler144: [...] I actually don't think there's a ton of value in this particular query from HSL, but...since we're here, if that was your gambit / thinking, why not vote him simultaneous to the question rather than partially delayed? [...]
The way this played out stood out to me, and I'm trying to see if I can read a (clear?) motive behind it all, and see if and how it could be factored into reading his wagon. If post #280 is the reason, why not vote right away, and if he actually wanted clarification (as his post #255 suggests), why now wait for it?

Without the vote, post #121 can be read in a few different ways, from being an attempt to shift focus from his RNG RVS vote, the attention the vote itself and everything that followed drew, to being an attempt to move on without actually having anything to go on (note that he didn't scumread anything in JoeSapphire's content, or at least he didn't mention anything, just a worry/suspicion that scum!JoeSapphire may use his post-style as cover in the future), to shading JoeSapphire with a “I don’t know your usual posting style” thrown in to balance the impression.

flubbucket: Directing the game and pointing out plotholes does sound like a town thing to do.

My currenter scum team is: ZFR, Damnation, bler144.

The lurkier one gets the vote for now. […]

Vote: Damnation
That’s a pretty convenient way to avoid stating/committing to why these three are your current(er) scum team…

avatar
Damnation: Here's the thing - I'm more sarcastic than your average Dane. I'm so sarcastic I have friends who are unsure when to take me seriously and when to assume I'm joking.
Here's what I say to them (And now to you):
If you think I'm joking, I'm serious. If you think I'm serious, I'm joking. (And surprisingly as it may be, it describes me quite well) […]
That “assume I’m joking” kind of sounds that even when you’re joking you’re still serious to some degree…

The reason I commented on this, and phrased it as “somewhat (seemingly?) joking tone”, is that I didn’t actually read it as a joke. But if telling apart when you’re serious from when you’re joking is actually as hard as you say, then I quite likely shouldn’t have assumed that others read this the same way I did.

avatar
SirPrimalform: [...] Uhhhh... it's fairly obvious Damnation means the only verified townie at the start of the game is yourself and in a closed setup you can be sure what's lurking there in the dark. Scummier still. [...]
[emphasis added]

Is this correct, or was it meant to be "can't"? I'm also not sure I understand what the last sentence is referring to, in either case ("can" vs "can't"). Elaborate?

avatar
Bookwyrm627: [...] I was breaking the wagon ice, so to speak, since I'd seen a few people mention Cristi as being scummy, but no one has actually voted her. [...]
[emphasis added]

Well, Vitek was voting her from post #53 up until post #251...

avatar
Bookwyrm627: [...] Why is it interesting that I mention Ele? [...]
Is this seriously a serious question? The answer is right there in the bit you quoted...

avatar
Vitek: You may move here but only if you don't mind sleeping in the cage with my pet procupine.
Or it could be with flub but I don't even bother to offer it over the porcupine.
It's all those alcohol fumes flubbucket emits, isn't it?

avatar
cristigale: [...] Maybe I'm more sensitive too it because I recognized it game 41 (the cult one with the Jim Jones avatar), chose to dismiss it and got recruited. [...]
I was going to make a joke about this very thing when you I read your reply to me in post #206, but you had to go and mentioned the recruitment yourself.

Can I have a bump, please?
