I might be in the minority, I don't know, but I really liked the Infinity Gauntlet series when it was new. Interesting to flip through it again. I still have those in print.

I remember picking up the first issue of Ultimate X-Men some 12 years ago. I randomly spotted it in a comic shop and thought, "Hey, first issue, why not?" Picked up the next five issues as well and really enjoyed them. Anyway, pretty wild I now have that Ultimate X-Men #1 plus 722 other comics in a digital library.

So this is labelled from last month... can I still get these on sale?

I have regular comic books in storage, still nice to see them all available in a digital format though.

Last month the site was overwhelmed by demand, so they did the promotion again when anyone who signed for it got a mail and 48 hours to go to the site and get the free comics. The comics weren't publicly available this time, you couldn't just go to Comixology or Marvel and get them for free. I no longer see any mention of this promotion on the Marvel site, so I assume that it's no longer possible to sign up for it.

Damn, and digital comic books are such a damned ripoff too. I'd be happy to pay some cash for back catalog, but I'm not paying 10 bucks for digital "trades" with 3-6 issues. I forgot which, DC or Marvel, have slightly better deals (it's not fucking Dark Horse, that's for sure), but even those chafe a lot. I'd spend literally 100s of dollars to just go through one of the longer backstories since the beginning.

Fuck, "Netflix" me a sub and let me just pay 5 bucks a month for unlimited access, I don't care, current deals are shitty, though.

Marvel has a system like that. (As far as I know, they're the only ones that do.)

It's been a year or two since I used it, but it seemed worthwhile if you read comics often. The biggest downside it had at the time was the available selection. Like Netflix streaming, what's there is there. I think they've improved things a bit since I used it, but your mileage may vary. According to the site, you'll be six months behind new releases, so no catching up on the absolute latest I'm afraid.
Still, I wish more of them would go this route. I'd probably still be reading DC if they had a service like this. I need my Batman/Nightwing fix, but I got tired of all the extra books I "had" to read for all the crossover events they kept doing.

Dude awesome, I swear I'd read about that but then found nothing about it in any of the Marvel or DC iPad apps.

Can I read all the way back from the 30s (or whenever they started) until now for the titles they do have or do they have breaks in some of the arcs? My interest is mostly powering through old stuff I've never had the opportunity to read.

Just got back from a holiday and I never once used a computer or set up WiFi on my phone to check my e-mail whilst I was there and found this thread on the front page a short while ago, now that I'm back. When I read that the offer was over unless you had signed up for it I instantly feared that I hadn't but, thankfully, I had after all. Phew in-fucking-deed.

But I must say with all seriousness: as a huge nerd, I would have died if, say, my flight was delayed by several hours too late to redeem these and were to have come home to have found that to be the case. Since that's not the case, though, I gotta say: fantastic stuff. Can't wait to dive into these.

Just got my library filled, and so far... I'm underwhelmed. It looks like you have to be always online to read each page... I don't see where you can download a book to read it later. Does anyone know if the iPad app requires you to be always online to read each page?

Marvel Unlimited - advertises over 13,000 comics, so hopefully some of them will be of interest.

Marvel has Marvel Mondays, when they some dozens of issues (chosen stories) for $0.99 each. $1 and issue is also the regular price of the collections.

I'm using the Android app, but no, you only have to be online to access the store, including seeing your comics in purchase order (which I find the most useful way to browse them, except in the case of these 700). Each comic is downloaded and you can read it when offline.

I've never been a big comic book reader, but I started reading them on the apps since I got my Nexus 7, and already bought a few first issues before this promotion. My plan is to find which ones I'm interested in continuing reading and then get a month of Marvel Unlimited to read more.


By the way, all the apps and all the stores (DC and Marvel) are powered by Comixology. You still have different accounts for each. I decided to get this promotion on the Marvel site/app to separate it from my Comixology account, even though I've already bought some Marvel stuff at Comixology directly.

Looks like that they have some more free comics, if someone's interested...
