90% of GOG.com games officially supported in Windows 8

A lot of you have been asking recently if we’re going to support Windows 8 officially. Our answer has been, “let’s wait for the release of the OS and we’ll look into it and see.” Well, Windows 8 has been out for a while, and as such we’ve had time to look into it. We have good news, and we bet you’re never gonna guess what it is!

Windows 8 support? Oh. Wow. Yeah. Good guess. How did you--wow. That was a good guess.

So as of today we're adding official Windows 8 support for most of the games in GOG.com catalog. There are currently 431 titles fixed, tested, and reported to be working properly under Microsoft's new OS. Note that most of these have not had the master builds updated, so you shouldn’t need to redownload the installer or anything. Some of the titles, our build ninjas performed their usual magic on, and they’ll work now in Windows 8--and we’re even adding Windows 7 support to a few. We’ll also be adding more Windows 8 games as time goes by and we’ve got time to apply some fixes to more of the classic games in the catalog.

We’re bringing the best games in history to the new OS, If you’ve got any questions about it, let us know in the comments below.
Nice to see support officially added, now to wait for the rest of the games to have their installers updated, before I update my local files.
It's nice to see GOG going to be Good old but progressive. Anyway, I plan to stick with Win 7 until end of their support which might be pretty good until 2020 unless Microsoft give me serious reason to 'upgrade' and interface aka iPhone is laughable.
Woohooo... but now all of the supported games have to be updated on the Wiki again!
Very little seems to have changed going to W8. I've yet to find a game I can't play since I switched, either on GOG or Steam.

Did run into a Space Rangers 2 Reboot problem that used to surface only with the original before but putting it windowed seemed to fix it. Will probably get the HD version when it comes out anyway.

Good to see W8 officially supported though.

GOG.com: and we’re even adding Windows 7 support to a few.
Right, "a few" = 68 games.

Which means, only 16 games are not Windows 7 supported (yet).

These are:
Cannon Fodder
Comanche vs. Hokum
Die by the Sword + Expansion
Empire Earth 2 Gold Edition
F/A-18E Super Hornet
Gorky 17
Gothic
Haegemonia Gold Edition
Incredible Machine Mega Pack, The
Independence War Deluxe
Jagged Alliance 2
Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire
Manhole: Masterpiece Edition, The
MDK
Messiah
Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator

Amazing job, GOG, i really appreciate it. And I was wondering if you are still working on it.

nice to see that 8 is finally being officially supported now....

So...

What about the rest "10%" then? What about the rest of the games that still have multiple problems working on 7? Gorky 17 anyone?

I really appreciate the update but there's still tons of work to do for the GOG team.
Still not getting Win8.
Sticking to Vista as long as I can. Will be forced to upgrade like always....
47 games not Windows 8 compatible (yet):

Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Atlantis 3: The New World
Battle Realms + Winter of the Wolf
BloodRayne 2
Comanche vs. Hokum
Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
Creatures Exodus
Creatures: The Albian Years
Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive
Die by the Sword + Expansion
Disciples 2 Gold
Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition
Empire Earth 2 Gold Edition
F/A-18E Super Hornet
Gangsters: Organized Crime
Gorky 17
Gothic
Haegemonia Gold Edition
Incredible Machine Mega Pack, The
Independence War Deluxe
Interstate '82
Jagged Alliance 2
Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire
Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time, The
King's Quest 7+8
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
MDK
Messiah
Might and Magic® 6-pack: Limited Edition
Might and Magic® 9
Patrician 3
Populous™: The Beginning
Post Mortem
Powerslide
Realms of Arkania 3
Return to Krondor
Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood
Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator
Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
Silent Hunter® 2
Soulbringer
Speed Busters: American Highways
Still Life
Tex Murphy 1+2
Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness
Worms 2
Zork: Grand Inquisitor

I guess Alan's Wake is a matter of few weeks, that should be fixed by the devs. Other games are either the same as Windows 7 not compatible (yet), or from a certain period of time, which probably means it's a question of one fix for a couple of games.

Also, GOG probably won't fix MDK, because they'll add MDK HD.

Boo! Why would you actively support that abomination?

Maybe to get Microsoft to sell their classics on GOG?

Licurg: Still not getting Win8.
My Win8 Pro installation CD ISO still sits on my hard drive. I was slowly making my system ready to dualboot Win7 and 8, but now I've hit a roadblock because I get some stupid USB 3.0 error when I'm trying to copy (backup) a few hundred gigabytes of files from my second internal hard drive to an external USB hard drive (it seems as if the USB ports reset themselves after either a certain period of time, or file transfers, which interrupts the copying).

Fecking technology, why can't it just work? Especially these fecking USB hard drives seem to cause all kinds of nasties every now and then. I already checked that I have the latest USB 3.0 drivers (from Intel, dated in January 2012), but I noticed my BIOS was not up to date, so I flashed it to the latest version yesterday. Let's see if it helps with my stupid USB 3.0 transfer problems.

Hmm Gothic works fine here, right off the bat. Haven't tried any of the other ones in your list, but I have never had an issue with any game in Win 7.

Well, Gorky 17's issue has more to do with video cards. I bet it still doesn't work on Win8 with the wrong card.
