Is there anyone else out there who actually spends more time looking at game descriptions + reviews and subsequently buying instead of actually playing what has been bought?

I'm currnetly stitting with morethan 100 games in my e-shelf and I think I haven't even played ten percent of them :D

I'm beginning to love GOG more than I love the GoG's themselves :-o

I have a huge pile of games that I haven't played yet. Problem for me is the games I like tend to take a long time to complete, so I'll only get through a few before the sales come around again and I end up buying more than I've played. Thus, the backlog keeps growing.

Isn't it common thing around here?

EDIT: But we get many mini games extra:
Adventure game "Search forum for a certain topic"
RPG "One of my installers just got new level - but which one and what's inside?" aka "What did just update: thread" :-P

GOG is the game ;)
You can play these!?
It's true that, for me, shopping for games is a game in itself. Watching for sales, looking at reviews, reading through descriptions, imagining whether I would enjoy playing this game or that game, adding some to my wishlist and purging others that I've lost interest in. These are all very enjoyable things, and can be quite separate from playing any of those actual games.

It's just important to remember that when I engage in that particular game, I'm using real life money, so I can't let myself get too caught up in it.

But I can definitely relate to sometimes loving GOG more than the individual GOGs. The Insomnia Sale was my prototypical example of that phenomenon. :)

*puts my hand up* Guilty here!
I won't say that I spend more time buying games than playing them, but I definitely buy much more games than I can play in my spare free time.

Hope to have more free time once in the future though and as I only buy games that I will probably enjoy, I'm not unhappy with my backlog.
I may already have (d)evolved to the next stage: caring more about the lack of new releases than about what is already on the site.

I can help you out playing these games. When you buy some games next time, just gift them to me and I'll play them for you. :p

"Where is the new release that I won't get around to playing for a very long time?"

"When is the next sale so I can buy more stuff that I won't get around the playing for a very long time?"
For me it's having the option to play whenever the mood strikes me instead of finding, buying and downloading it.

The ironic thing is that I'm pretty sure the amount of options I have discourages me from sticking to completing any one of them and so most remain unplayed. It's not helped by the fact that these older games require a much higher time-investment because RTFM is almost a requirement and controls and UIs had yet to find their footing.

So a typical day would be like.

"Yeah maybe I'll play M.A.X. today."
Start up tutorial.
"Hmm... I don't really feel like having to learn this much, I'll just play some pinball."
My shelf, compared to some of you veterans here, isn't that monstrous yet. But with around 20+ games bought during the winter sale, I'll have something to play for a longer while for sure. The shopping experience on the site, lots of recommendations found in the forum, reading/watching reviews, the daily sale sniping, I agree: it kind of felt like a game in itself.

*starts up Civ 2*

OK LET'S DO THIS

*starts new game*

Yeah, what's going on? Let's try a scenario?

*starts up random scenario*

WHAT THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO! There's no tutorial that I can see, and the manual is the biggest I've ever seen. Yeah, I think I'll go back to the repetitive, mindless game I was playing earlier.
LOL I bought 100 games too! (luckly discounted)
I couldn't resist to those amazing offers.

I have already played, however, to at least 25 of them in boxed \ lent \ ex-abandonware \ etc form.
Now they're all mine here :)
