Yep. That's why I'm not going to get it. Origin-Account plus third-party DRM virus is bad IMO, even if it's thrown at you for free.

I forget sometimes how picky people are with DRM. Makes me sound like a bad person since I don't really care aslong as I can play my game. lol

Good I already have it on Steam... of those two, Steam seems to be the 'lesser evil' :)

Downloading Dead Space now.

The Steam version of Dead Space has inert SecuROM so it isn't actually installed or otherwise used. I haven't checked the Origin version to see if its SecuROM is still active.

I've always wanted to play Dead Space.

But I'll continue waiting for a DRM-free and walled-garden free version. Hopefully it will come to GOG.

Can't say that I agree. Origin got a lot of criticism early on but as far as I can tell it's not at all worse than Steam. EA may generally be a bigger asshole company than Valve but Origin really doesn't feel any more restrictive or less fair than Steam does, IMO. Plus at least Poland got its separate pricing region there (rather than having to pay the insanely high Euro prices like on Steam).

According to Enhanced Steam, there is no other DRM apart from Steamworks.

Well if you didn't play Dead Space yet, definitely - it's excellent.

I think you really should. I only tried it after getting Battlefield 3 from the Origin Humble Bundle (and that it's an Origin exclusive was actually reason enough for me not to even consider buying it before) and when I finally installed Origin I regretted not having tried it earlier. Especially considering how much money I could have saved this way as a Polish user (in the best cases I paid ~50% of Steam's Euro price for the same game).

Ironically Battlefield 3 is the one game that seriously contributed to Origin's bad reputation since the game would always have to be launched via a browser (additionally to requiring the Origin client) but that issue is game-specific so Origin got a lot worse rep than it should have.

I don't know how origin downloads work, but does this mean you can backup the installer or the installed files and run them natively without origin or online requirement?
