wait, when you guys are talking about the GOG installer being used by GamersGate editions, do you actually mean the identical installer used by GOG, including 'Good Old Games.com' branding? that would be odd.

Identical I think. Or in the D&D cases it was an edited one but still with gog remnants in the installer

one thing to bear mind, though, is the fact that GOG is neither the first nor the only distributor that has re-released older games with new installers and minor compatibility fixes. check out the Sold-Out line of British retail editions, many of which also happen to be on GOG... GOG may as well receive some of the games already prepared for release.

This is why I started this thread here in the first place. Dont get me wrong I have the disc version and it is a funny one to install, you have to copy over disc contents onto the hard disc and run that way, so I wanted a version with installer and the extra levels. I would have purchased it from GOG but with having said disc version already and enough Blue Coins to get it free decided to go the GG route with it.
I am loyal to GOG when it comes to classic games as it makes life easier, just thought it was really weird.
One thing I thought about yesterday is maybe once GOG have done their magic with these old games they will most likely have to supply the finished product back to the owner / distributor. Maybe then the distributor then supplies this version out to other platform holders?

You can be pretty sure that every "proper" company, with an actual adress and business registration will have the right to use those files. Because otherwise GOG could have the head on a legal platter faster than an african american gets convicted in Georgia.
Without going into much detail, whenever a company uses the property of another company to make money, the right owner can get a big chunk, if not even all of the profits. This, plus a nasty fine on top of it, would make the illegal use of those installers highly unlikely.
