It got pretty bad reviews, but the game looks actually good.

Ois: I remember it getting slammed in the reviews. Or, that might of been the port to a specific system.
I could never get into Judge Dredd, and thought the movie to be at the most, simply average.
Hmmm, that was rather negative :|

It has a much better atmosphere to it than the movie, i guess it may be a bit on the average side if you aren't a fan. I liked it. I also liked rogue trooper another rebellion game based on a 2000ad character, it's not that old but it would be nice if it made it here.
Mmm, with a metacritic score of 55 and a release date of 2005 this seems neithe old nor good.
Anyone who enjoyed this game?
Always liked the look of this despite the less than flattering reviews, thanks GOG.
I love Judge Dredd the comic book! Will buy this as soon as I am able! Thanks GOG!
Also: I did not see whether this game was patched to the official 1.01 patch, so I must ask: Is the game patched??

I am a huge Dredd fan and I have this game. It's ok. It's certainly not brilliant. I guess the biggest flaw is that its nothing more than average in every department. It borrows a lot of ideas from other FPS games and for anyone unfamiliar with Dredd its just going to be a generic shooter.
For the fans however there is a lot to like about it. For one thing the Lawgiver is very faithful to the comics with multiple ammo types and there are cameo appearances by 2000AD characters like Judge Anderson, Judge Hershey and of course the Dark Judges. Mega City One is also very faithfully recreated even down to the residents such as the fatties going around on Belly-Wheels. You can also pretty much arrest anyone as everyone is guilty of something. You have a justice meter which shows how good or bad you have been and if you become too bad the SJS (Special Judicial Squad) will arrive and its game over.
If you have never read 2000AD then its going to be nothing special. If you have read 2000AD then like me you will be very fond of it despite its obvious flaws. However Rogue Trooper remains the definitive 2000AD game.

I made an interesting screenshot from this game's page not a long time ago. Maybe this game will only be released at GOG about 11 years later? :) (Right, I know it's now fixed, but it's funny I think)

is this worth playing then? as judge dread does sound cool

bansama: Drat! I bought it on Steam when it was released there >_<

Same here. Ah well.
I'm wondering if the AvP games will crop up on here, given Rebellion still have the rights for those (as far as I know).

I would say yes. Like I said this game's only real crime is being average. It was part of the FPS revival on Playstation 2 and Xbox from a few years back where there were a ton of FPS games (Firewarrior, Mace Griffen, Red Faction 2 and a lot more) that were all just... Meh.
I have the game on disc. I was in the UK at the time and I bought it immediately as since the 80s I was a fan of the comic although not being able to follow any storyline due to a couple of reasons.
If you like the comic, the game is a must have. The same way as Star Trek games and Star Wars games are even better for fans of the series.
It is not the best FPS game of the decade or even the year it was released, but it is not a bad game and if you like futuristic settings, it is even better.
Bare in mind that I also like the movie.
I guess it's the PS2-looks that always killed interest in this game for me. I have the boxed copy but never played more than an hour or two.
Well the first mission on youtube looked a bit up & down but I can imagine it having a few fun bits, shall add it to my 'buy whenever you have enough money to get both games AND pay bills'

If you are a fan of Judge Dredd and like FPS's then yes, otherwise maybe try a demo first.
