In my opinion, Cosmic Encounter has a nice combination of luck and strategy.

I think the game's appeal to me comes from the fact that everyone only knows their status for sure. Others you will have to quess. Also, it is one of those games where you get to yell "BUT WAIIIT!" on your opponents moment of victory and throw in a card that changes everything. Then he or she probably does the same to you in the next turn.

And the alien powers, of course. They make each game a new experience since there are so many of them. The expansions are relatively cheap and seemingly add a lot to the game (I haven't got any of them at the moment, but I'm working on it).

EDIT: Also, I might mention I was sceptical of the "Destiny" system at first (which player you will attack is decided on random), although there are cards that let you choose. What I found out is that it works surprisingly well. It balances the game so that everyone is not always bumrushing the weakest defender. The system is especially fun with the "Dicator" alien power, which lets (or actually forces) you to choose which player your opponents attack. Great for diplomacy and intrigue.

I might check out Game of Thrones at some point since the series is on the rage everywhere, and I would certainly have no problem finding a group to play it.

Has anyone tried playing Infinity, Hordes and Malifaux with hexes?
