orcishgamer: Anyone else noticed some server instability in the last few? I don't know if the client has a memory leak or the shards have been taking a shit, because suddenly I'm getting kicked every 5-10 minutes and when I rejoin, there's about 50 people spawning in town and scattering (so I'm guessing it's the shards).

Fenixp: I've been kicked about 3 times during the 2 hours that I've played today, so yeah, I'd say something is going on.
Yes, a lot of instability atm. I was kicked 4 times out of the higher prison area. I guess I'll have to beat the Act I end boss (that's who Marcus is I guess) tomorrow.

OTOH, just before I closed the game, the devs said they were looking into the instability problem, so hopefully it'll be fixed. My guess is that the game is proving more popular than they'd expected and their servers are overloaded.
It's not much of a problem, that's partly what open beta is for after all.
Btw I was suggesting this to Orcishgamer on Steam, but I should mention it here too: most (not sure if all?) of the cosmetic microtransaction items that lack video demonstrations on the official PoE website do have their respective videos uploaded on to Youtube. Just search for "path of exile <microtransaction item name>" and you can find it.

-edit- They've added the demonstration videos to the item pages on the POE website :)

It seems their servers have melted down, even their website servers have a "down for maintenance" message up.

EDIT: according to Twitter they are being DDoSed. Seriously, what the fuck?! if true.

They've updated their microtransaction items' pages with demonstration videos. Cool. Anyone bought anything off there yet? I did buy something, but regretted it almost immediately after that. Will probably save up the rest of my coins for stash tabs and the extra gore special effect when it's out.

I've never bought any cosmetic microtransaction items in my life -- I always thought it was silly and tend to only prefer spending real money on functional purchases (such as extra tabs), and that's probably what I'll end up spending my points on for this game. However, a few of the cosmetic item things are pretty tempting. I like the vampiric sword graphic, and the ice crown would be neat since I will have a cold spec'd witch. I'm assuming these are one time use effects though, and if that's the case it would probably keep me from every spending real money on a cosmetic item.

Considering they want like 7 bucks for them I'd hope they're multi-use, but the description certainly reads like they're single use.
Nope not one-time uses. You can remove the effect from that item and use it on another via the Reclaim Effect button in your microtransaction window in-game.

Good to know, thank you.
I'm crashing like a fudge cake on Act 3. It would keep giving me multiple error messages about it being unable to find a file before crashing - and this is even after re-downloading everything. Looks like I'll have to put this game aside for the time being until it's more stable. Oh well.

Ironically, the Closed Beta was problem-free for me. Hope it gets fixed soonish, because my Witch and her legion of undead need to break stuff.

I'm starting Act II with my Witch who's level 18 now.
So far it's the best hack&slash game I've played in a long time, great atmosphere, interesting character system, etc...
I haven't had any bugs or server problems either, except for that DDOS attack last night.
All in all, it's very impressive for an early open beta imo.

How long has it been open btw?
As I was playing I saw an announcement saying "x is the first to get to level 80", then a while later "x is the first to get to level 81". During that time I had gained maybe 1.5 level. Isn't it much slower to gain levels the higher you go?

About a day or so before I started this thread ;)
I Am Soooo Eager To Play Path Of Exile... What I Am Going To Do Is Buy A LapTop On TuesDay... I Might DownLoad The Open Beta, As I AllReady Registered MySelf For An Account With Them... But I Might Wait For The "Finished Version" As I Have Read Many Verdicts Of Beta-Players That Speak Of System-Crashes And Game Glitches That Need To Get Worked Out.
It Is Going To Be My First LAPTOP EVER! All My Portable Computers For The Last 7 Years Have Been 1 GIG RAM NetBooks... So You Can See Why I Have Been Playing The Games From GOG.com! THANK YOU GOG.COM! I Was Factually Able To Play And Complete NeverWinter Nights Diamond On My Latest NetBook... But For A Game Such As Path Of Exile... Time For A LAPTOP!

Act 3 is completely new, so hopefully it's just that it's had way less testing.

Yep, brand new, so their interest was sky high. Login queues have been eliminated now though (via cloud scaling I presume).
