StingingVelvet: The more I attempt to focus in on genres and styles I really enjoy and limit other purchases the more I think I'm a virtual tourist. I really think seeing cool places and exploring them is my main drive in playing video games.

Nirth: Same here. So in the end it's about relatively cheap traveling, huh?

Number 1 is escapism, do things I can't do in other mediums or real life, as the root of the reason but exploring new places and new interactions is what keeps me playing.
^ This.
Because I can.

Licurg: Because I don't have enough money for hookers .
They aren't worth it, video games are way better than women.

Marzooker: Can a video game hold the same importance to you as a film, or say your favourite album?
More, actually.
They made me do it.
Obligation. Contractual obligation.
to entertain myself when i'm sitting around chilling like a villing like bob dylling.
I like historical strategies, because they allow me to get a bit of a world conqueror feeling (I guess psychiatrists would diagnose me some Napoleonic or Hitler syndrom or whatever...)

I enjoy occasionally playing RPGs for the story and game-world touch, it"s like reading a good book you don't have to imagine just in mind and you're given the choice to write your own pages

and finally I like playing racing games and first person shooters (FPS only in multiplayer), only for the purpose of relaxing (after work mainly) and not having to think about anything

but I've noticed I can't play computer games for stress-relieving purpose or when I'm angry, every failure makes me even more angry

Me too. The best way is to just leave the computer then return when one is calm down, preferably with a little happy-skipping too.
For the fun of it, mostly. I also enjoy taking part in a good story. For the most part, it is just a nice way to get away from everything else for a while and just have some fun.
I have no idea

Marzooker: Can a video game hold the same importance to you as a film, or say your favourite album?
Yes, easily. I consider games to be a superior past time to movies, due to being interactive experiences.

There are many reasons why I play games, depending on the game in question:

1. Just to kill excessive time, even with casual (tablet) games.

2. Do or learn things I can't do in real life, e.g. flight simulators.

3. Experience a great interactive adventure and story, with majestic music and stuff.

4. Competitive nature of me, e.g. playing TeamFortress Classic against other human players. This feels a bit like playing football against other people. I prefer team games to deathmatch games. This competitive edge can come also with challenging single-player games, the reason I like RTS and tactical RPG games. I want to win!

With most games, many of these overlap.

How do you feel? Is there something wrong with you tinyE? More and more your postings are fun :p

Back to topic:

i play games because its so inconvenient running around with my battle axe slaying monsters (you should see some of my neighbors)
As a diversion. And I don't put a whole lot of time in playing games anymore. Those times are long over.

No. Video games are a luxury. Music is an important part of my life.
I can't get a girlfriend because I'm unfortunate looking
