Update: The contest is now closed and winners have been drawn....thanks to all who entered :)

=============================================================

Well it's that time again...time for yet another GR giveaway! This time on the block is the new InDev game "The Mansion", as well as a copy of the classic shadow man(now since delisted from the store). To enter, simply be eligible and follow all rules/requirements below.

==============================================================

Deadline

The contest runs until: May 23rd, 2021 at around 5PM Eastern Time

Eligibility

Near anyone who registered before May 2021 can enter
(with some exceptions listed below in the rest of this post)

Rules

1a. One must be eligible(as per above)....also those who registered more recently are allowed to enter but might be scrutinized(to watch for scammers), such as those with no games or only free games on their accounts.

1b. One can enter for both game draws(The Mansion and Shadow Man classic) or a single draw, should they choose....but if an entrant entered for both game draws wins the main game draw(The Mansion), they will then become ineligible for the shadow man classic draw.

(update) 1c. One can enter for both or either of the draws either for themselves or for another gogger who is eligible.

2. One must enter on or before the deadline above.

3. One must answer the question listed below in the section marked question

4. One needs to either allow PMs from everyone or add me as friend during the giveaway, so I can send them their winnings should they be chosen.

(Plz make sure to read this one) 5. One is entered for both giveaways(the main one for The Mansion and Shadow Man classic) unless one opts out for a specific giveaway when entering.

6. One can enter and then give their winnings to someone else, as long as they mention that is their intent when entering....also i'd really like people to not sell their winnings, though that is not a rule(more so just a request of mine).

(optional) 7. Uprating the OP post is appreciated, but more so: If one wants and feels like it, i'd like it if readers/entrants uprate any nice/interesting/informative/kind posts that others make.

(misc) 8. There is a rep "door prize" that has become a tradition of mine....all people who post to this contest are entered into it by default.

Question

Do you like to be scared by games like The Mansion and others? If so, why? If not, what kinds of feelings do you like to get from games/etc instead?

(optional) Maybe post a pic/video link/etc that ties in with the above or relates to it somehow(like a fond memory of feeling some emotion tied to a game you played or other piece of media you consumed).

Prizes

One copy of The Mansion to one lucky winner

One copy of Shadow Man to another lucky winner

One "door prize" of 5 rep points

===

Well that's about it....the contest is now open...good luck to all who enter :)
(also beyond this bit there's no need to read carefully)

EDIT: Sharing my thoughts and feelings about horror games.

When I was younger I couldn't play horror games. I only looked at images of games like The Suffering, F.E.A.R. or Doom 3 and thought "No way I'm playing that". Then a few years later I thought to myself, "why the hell am I afraid of playing this?", and so I decided to play horror games and since then I have no problem with them at all. Nowadays, I even play them at night, all lights out and with headphones.

But do I feel anything when playing them? Of course, and that is anxiety. It comes from the feeling of the unknown, of what might going to happen. Sure, there are some jump scares that make me jump on the chair, but after one I just curse and it's gone.
Like the ones I mentioned above, almost all horror games I play are action oriented and the characters have means to defend themselves. That in itself reduces a lot the anxiety, because I know that when the enemies appear, I'll be able to deal with them.
The exception, was Outlast. That game made me anxious from start to finish. No weapons, just running and hiding. Also, the fact that we need to use a recording camera to see in the dark adds to it.

All in all, I like to play horror games and the anxiety I feel is part of the experience. Without it, it would be like playing any other game.

I'm not scared at all by horror games because I instinctively know it's not real. Jump scares don't get me. The only time a horror game has ever gotten to me was when I played the first Evil Within. It kept giving me nightmares, despite the fact that it didn't bother me while I was playing it. So for me, it's not if I like or dislike being scared by horror games; I'm just not scared by them. I prefer games with a good, dramatic story, and also funny games that are quite silly. I like games that make me think, but I'm terrible at puzzles, so I have kind of a love-hate relationship with point and click adventure games. Still, it's no surprise that my favorite game is the Longest Journey, and my second favorite is the Yakuza series. Playing Yakuza is like watching the Godfather, but every now and then it's interrupted by an Adult Swim original show.

I quite enjoy watching a particular Twitch streamer stream horror games because he's such a scaredy cat. Some of his reactions are priceless. Case in point: This clip of him playing Resident Evil Village the other day.

I'm only in for Shadow Man. The Mansion looks good, but I can only win one of the two games, and Shadow Man looks more like my cup of tea, plus it's been removed from the store. I can always buy the Mansion whenever I want.

I don't like to be scared by games usually, but there is some games which I like, eg. Soma, Observer.
I think if game has got really good plot, and some detective secrets to solve, then sometimes I can allow game to scare me ;)
I'm trying to find some next game similar to mentioned examples above, but I have no idea, what should I pick.

Thanks for the GA. I would like to in for Shadow Man, if I can ;)
Not in.

i'm not realy scared by horror games or horror movies, the only thing that can give me jump scare it's when nothing is happening the game/movie become boring and sudenly they make a very loud noise while i'm almost sleeping.

Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home.

I'm in for The Mansion only.

I like being scared by games. In survival/action horror types the tension can add another layer of difficulty onto the game and likewise maybe a greater sense of accomplishment when you overcome it. Or maybe its just fun to be scared by something you know can't hurt you.

As per Rule 5: are you opting out of the other giveaway(The Mansion), or would you like to enter for that as well? :)

Not in, but thanks for your generosity!

Being scared by games isn't something I'm interested in, and I don't think I've ever actually been scared by a game...the closest may have been System Shock 2, but that was more a feeling of stress, because you're never really safe in that game due to the respawning enemies (good game, but felt a bit like work).
In general horror leaves me pretty cold...doesn't compare to the horror of the real world anyway.

What I mostly want from games nowadays is a feeling of adventure/exploring a world.

Ah, "sim games"...I love walking around and exploring a well made one(or even a less well made one if the theme/story is good enough). Also thanks btw for playing along with us. :)

My definition of "sim game" is pretty wide though...only thing I really don't have much interest in anymore is strategy games, too large scale for me to feel a connection. I prefer games where you control an individual or a small group of people.

I don't suppose me entering for finkleroy would get him around the "1 winner" rule, if technically I was the other winner even if he received the game, eh?

Ah well.

Not in (unless I can squeak finkleroy around the rule restrictions by being in for him for the other game), but +1 for the GA.

I don't generally seek out horror games, and would say I downgrade horror-themed games slightly though not as much as space games. Dead Space, being a combo of horror and space, I abandoned about 10 minutes in.

For the most part I don't find most horror games actually scary, much less horrifying, but there've been relatively few I thought were good. A lot of HOGs use very light horror themes, but are more campy than anything. I do enjoy FEAR 1 and Bioshock (to the extent that is horror), and I really enjoyed System Shock 2.

What was the question again?

I love such games...but more so stuff like Command and Conquer. I also like small squad based games as well, though.

Actually, goggers can enter for other goggers just like that. Would you care for me to enter your name for The Mansion & give the game to Fink if you win, then? You can also enter for the shadow man draw, if you want, to give Fink an extra chance there as well.

So, put your name in both draws and give the prize to Fink if you're picked, then?

Yes, I will be in for The Mansion with the intent of giving it to finkleroy if I do win (since it won't blow up his desire to win the other game to do that).

thanks! ;)
