Well you know, nowadays we are so lucky to have a huge offer of video games... there is a point where you really start a reflexion about the kind of games you like and why... or find those traumatic experiences... I mentioned a couple of games that pushed me to understand why didn't like me despite they have their strong positive elements.
About horror genre, I am not a fan of them, but I enjoy the ambience, the originality of its monsters, music, their survival clichés...

Sorry that I dont have a pic/video to post, but I remember the scene of Paranormal Activity where the sleep guy stays stand up several hours in the middle of the night without noticing it. It scared me! I was living alone at that time and only thinking about the possibility caused me some insomnia. On books, I really like The Feather Pillow short story from Horacio Quiroga.

Yes please, on both draws and wish me luck :)
Not in. But felt compelled to say thanks for your generosity, GamezRanker. :)

I don't consider myself a fan of horror games per se, but I can appreciate a game that gives me the psychological creeps or makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, rather than one that assaults me with jump scares.

Correction: if I am playing the monster in a horror game, then yes, I love it very, very much! xD I'm currently playing Carrion and it feels great spreading the horror. :P

And then perhaps be made better/stronger by them as a result, or search elsewhere and find something else we do like instead, which may also make us better/stronger somehow.

Finding good aspects even in things one dislikes somewhat......I like. :)

I hear ya...creepy games can be quite fun to play/walk around in for me as well.

Orkhepaj: I recommend it too, I've played the crazy vamp it was hilarious :)
avatar
GamezRanker: You mean Blade? ;D
Blade is cool , too bad the movies became like Resident Evil nonsense
Vampire eating vamps... yeah sure
avatar
Vingry: I'm sorry to hear that (the fact that the second Amnesia runs badly on your pc). From what I gathered, I don't think the second Amnesia is viewed more positively by the fans when compared to its predecessor. I think it was due to how the second game would have way more dialogues (not saying the first game didn't have many dialogues) but very little of the things that made the first game quite a masterpiece (basically less of the horror aspects). But then again, what do I know. I never played the game haha.
avatar
GamezRanker: It looks/feels nice enough....it just lags at anything above low settings and crashes every now and then(like every half hour to hour of play). My guess is that it's not optimized well enough.

But still, I give it a go every now and then....wanna finish it some day. :)
Good luck to you on that then, Sir :)

avatar
Vingry: As for Penumbra, I never finished it due to how scared I was playing the game lol.
avatar
GamezRanker: It(the first, which I played some of) can be tense, but it has many save points(save spots and saving when you enter other areas)...making it somewhat easy to get through. If not for losing data to several games over the years(including that one) i'd likely have finished it by now.
Ah I see.. Thanks for the info, as I've never really reached that far into the game. In fact, I chickened out quite early into the game lol. Don't ask which part, since it would make me look worse lol.

avatar
Vingry: Judging by the games you've mentioned, can I assume that you also like the first Bioshock game? Looks like the two games really took some inspiration from Bioshock.
avatar
GamezRanker: Yeah, it seems they "borrowed" a good deal from Bioshock....and yeah, I love game 1 and 2. I started Infinite recently as well.....looks nice enough, but not as good(much more linear so far, weapon limit, autosave only, pc messaging inserted into the game).....still, I like the look/feel so i'm still gonna play it.
Yep, I think we can agreed on the term "borrowed" for this one, since the settings are more or less the same, which Close to the Sun actually took it to another level (the game literally looks like it copied the whole Rapture). But then again, I think there's only so much that anyone can do to try to make an underwater city concept that is different from the next due to the technicalities that surround the architectures of the said city, so I don't really blame them. As for Infinite, I agree with you that the game is indeed a lot more linear than its predecessors. That said, I recommend you continue your playthrough of the game, as the story really is great! (I've finished the game)

And one more thing, I really appreciate to the generosity you've showed to this community through your giveaways :)

Loved the look of Bioshock 1/2, so loved seeing the look in Close to the Sun as well.....I was like "yay, more for me!" ;D

Will do so in time...no worries on that(it is on my short list of games I am currently playing on a rotating basis).

Thanks GamezRanker!

I love scary games, because the adrenaline rush is exciting.

As opposed to being mundane, a good scary game, one with proper atmosphere and not just cheap jumpscares, can give the thrill that everyone may want. For myself, I like to take a step away from reality's tame lifestyle and have some excitement. Don't get me wrong, I love a simple life and I would never want slenderman chasing me in real life. But that is exactly the beauty of horror games... It allows us to experience excitement at a safe appropriate distance from our screens. We can explore a haunted mansion or travel through the cold and unsettling dark woods or navigate through an empty space station that sends chills down our spines... That is the power of scary games and why I love them so much!

P.S. I wish GOG kept the classic version with the remastered for Shadow Man. In fact, the classic version cannot be bought now so that is unfortunate

Very well said...speaking of stations, btw: Talos 01(Prey 2017) is beautiful and fun to walk through :D

I do too...thankfully I was able to snag a few copies, though, so I could make a few people happy even after GOG took it down. :)

Btw, which draws are you entering for? Shadow Man? The Mansion? Both?

Ok I'll tell you since your guess was really close, like super close haha. It's actually the part after that, when you realize there are dogs (or dog, idk how many there were actually) inside the underground structure you've entered the moment you went in through the hatch you mentioned LOL.

Fun fact about the dogs(if say you ever decide to try the game again): they're not a problem if one doesn't look directly at them(looking at them or other enemies makes you afraid and somewhat gives away your position), and stays crouched/behind things and keeps their distance....all of which is super easy to do. And even on the rare chance you get caught, they can often be dealt with with a bit of work. :)

Now the thing that comes up later....... *spoiler* the spider things *end spoiler* .....THEY give me the creeps o.0

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind when I plan on giving the game a second try.
It's not so much that I like being scared as that I like a good game whatever feelings it causes to me. The point is to be good so, yes, give me a good scary game if it's good, give any kind of game as long as it's good because, sooner or later, I'll be in the mood for whatever it offers and I'll enjoy it.

I'm in for The Mansion, thanks for the giveaway!

Np

Btw, you know what I found to be the bigger "worry/fear" in the game? All the walking/crawling/etc about to do the tasks needed to progress.....now THAT was scary. o.0 ;D

No games on account, posting just to reply to another user(instead of contacting them via PM)....methinks you might be a spammer/scammer. What say ye...spammer/scammer or just a friendly new gogger?
