Vingry: Not in.

But I would like to answer your question. As for horror games, I hate the ones that rely solely on jumpscares and very little on the suspense that you get out of your main character getting chased by the ghosts that lurk within the desolated places your character ventures in. That's why I score games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Vanish higher. That said, I generally don't play horror games and simply watch other people's playthrough of those games.
avatar
GamezRanker: Amnesia...what a game....a shame the second game is a bit crap at running on my pc(though it also looks nice).

Also Penumbra(made by the same people) looks/plays nice as well, from what I played of the first one(been meaning to finish it some day).
I'm sorry to hear that (the fact that the second Amnesia runs badly on your pc). From what I gathered, I don't think the second Amnesia is viewed more positively by the fans when compared to its predecessor. I think it was due to how the second game would have way more dialogues (not saying the first game didn't have many dialogues) but very little of the things that made the first game quite a masterpiece (basically less of the horror aspects). But then again, what do I know. I never played the game haha.

As for Penumbra, I never finished it due to how scared I was playing the game lol.

avatar
Vingry: As for the kinds of feelings that I seek from games, I usually look for games that can feed my wanderlust. However, this doesn't limit myself to role playing games only, as strategy games can also provide me with that same excitement. For example, games like Civilization IV. The idea that you can interact with people of different backgrounds (the leaders) for me is enough.
avatar
GamezRanker: I hear ya....it's part of why I like "sims" like Soma and Close to the Sun.
Judging by the games you've mentioned, can I assume that you also like the first Bioshock game? Looks like the two games really took some inspiration from Bioshock.

avatar
GamezRanker: Thanks for the links :)
You're welcome :)
Thank you for giveaway.

When I was younger I scared myself with horror games.
One of the first ones I played was Clive Barker's Undying.
I remember scaring a little bit with that game.
But nowadays, I usually don't get scared about horror games anymore, as the years went by I realized that it was just a game for us to have fun.
And the Resident Evil series is nowadays one of my favorite game series. :)

If possible i would like to try my luck for: Shadow Man.

51nikopol: Btw as per Rule 5: Are ye opting out of the draw for shadow man?

Yes I am opting out of the draw for Shadow Man.
Noted, and thanks for letting me know. :)

Genocide2099: As for the question, yes, I like to be scared by games. It's an escape and there's nothing like being creeped out by pixels. lol. It's a stress reliever for me. Nothing beats playing a scary game after a stressful day.
I hear ya on that(of course, substituting the word "any" for the word "scary", as I love muh games :D).

avatar
Genocide2099: I know it's a game but when I play, I love immersing myself in the world, and VTM: Bloodlines has a very immersive world.
Sounds like it.....once I finish Redemption, I may eventually get into it.

avatar
Genocide2099: I'm in for both games.

Shadow Man did not initially interest me but I've been playing old games for the past few weeks and having a blast.
Yeah, there's a number of good older games(also some stinkers, but that's normal for most years).

Also entered and you are all set for the giveaway....best of luck to ya. :)

It looks/feels nice enough....it just lags at anything above low settings and crashes every now and then(like every half hour to hour of play). My guess is that it's not optimized well enough.

But still, I give it a go every now and then....wanna finish it some day. :)

Vingry: As for Penumbra, I never finished it due to how scared I was playing the game lol.
It(the first, which I played some of) can be tense, but it has many save points(save spots and saving when you enter other areas)...making it somewhat easy to get through. If not for losing data to several games over the years(including that one) i'd likely have finished it by now.

Yeah, it seems they "borrowed" a good deal from Bioshock....and yeah, I love game 1 and 2. I started Infinite recently as well.....looks nice enough, but not as good(much more linear so far, weapon limit, autosave only, pc messaging inserted into the game).....still, I like the look/feel so i'm still gonna play it.

I love that game...it's even one of my faves of that genre...a shame it never got finished(ends on cliffhanger).

Btw as per Rule 5: Are you opting out of the "The Mansion" draw?
Yes.
I only in for: Shadow Man.
At first I wanted to enter for just The Mansion as my wallet is in dire situation but then I open my Steam account and I actually already have it (the 2nd time it's happen this week) so yeah just want to appreciate the giveaway. Not entering for any of the prizes.

As for the question, it's not like I am a fan of horror stories, I just like games with good storytelling. Love it when the gamemaker surprises me with their story-crafting.

I've checked The Mansion out a little, and it looks like it is a story driven adventure game with puzzle solving and not a run away from chasing monsters like I assumed. The game looks a very promising 6-8hr fun when finished :)

Therefor I would like to change my decision and join for The Mansion giveaway.
I opt out from Shadow Man classic.

Do you like to be scared by games like The Mansion and others? If so, why? If not, what kinds of feelings do you like to get from games/etc instead?

Not really, I've tried a few of these horror games, but most of them are just force you to run away from an unstoppable monster, I really don't like that part. I like puzzle solving games very much and this looks like the main focus of this game. I like exploring areas for hidden loots games like Thief :)

(optional) Maybe post a pic/video link/etc that ties in with the above or relates to it somehow(like a fond memory of feeling some emotion tied to a game you played or other piece of media you consumed).

One pic from Fallout 76 hidden cat pic found ^^

Yes, exploring(as I said to others earlier) can be quite fun in such games and others. :)

@GamezRanker

You have got to play VTM: Bloodlines. It's buggy as hell but I think GoG included the latest stable community patch in their installer. Sadly, the sequel is not looking so good. IIRC, the head writer or creative left the project. I was really looking forward to it.

I've played the Nosferatu on my first playthrough and it was really different compared to when I played the other classes. I'm not a fan of stealth games but had a blast with this one. The Malkavian on the other hand is like struggling to make the right choices but failing every time. lol. Playing them is like playing a whole different game.
Thanks for the giveaway, please consider me. I am not fan of horror games, because as several pointed out, they are not really scaring you. Instead, they use Clichés like darkness, sudden/loud noises, creepy ambience, etc to shake you and have some adrenaline in the process. So at the end, the emotion was anything but scaring (maybe anxiety, stress)

This would be my list of feelings expected from video games:
-Fun: The game must be so wise to awake on me the exact dose of feelings (independently if they are possitive or not) to the level to easily identify it is a game! Grinding/simulators like a real life job or tragedy "games" (This war of mine) are Not games to me.
-Distracted: Time flies!
-Completion/Achievement: I really dislike games -dosed- by DLCs
-Immersion/Coherence: a sum of a lot of technical aspects or the genius of crafting: good controls + story + ambience + storytelling + the mechanincs + open world? + secondary missions? + cinematics + the characters + technological advances + novelty, Etc!
-Clarity & Progress: i know what the game is about and what needs to be done, advancement as a player, the story/goal goes somewhere. I give a big No to those "suspense/mistery games" where you are left in the dark in the middle of nowhere without any instruction (...are you FEZ?)
-Evolution: new weapons, power ups, habilities, etc
-Challenges fairly accepted: the need to learn/practice/improve skills (combos, locations, etc), resource administration, etc. The boring duty of repeat levels as much as needed in pursue to overcome it because I agree!
-Learning/Thought/Wise: The dose depends of the genre of the game
-Control temporary dosed: clues, invincibility with power ups, weapons, habilities, etc
-Satisfaction: Somewhere there is a positive result to me. (How much? is not so relevant)
-Entertaining, Curiosity & Amaze: parts of the gaming experience or its total sum

This is my personal opinion. Please excuse any nonsense/grammar/typo as a non native english speaker. Comments and corrections are welcomed. Thanks for asking

Yeah, I am planning on getting to it some day, as it looks good(just gotta finish the first game and clear some of my other backlog first). :)

Reminds me of the similarly named mod for Deus Ex...fun times.

You mean tension? Yeah, that's part of why I like such games....of course yes, they aren't for everyone.

Also btw, loved reading your list!

Question: I assume you wanted to enter for BOTH game draws(The Mansion & Shadow Man classic).....is that correct? If so, I will enter your name for the appropriate draw(s) once you answer this question.
