Yes I understand that there is options to block people and such but I have no personal beef with them so they could be nice people with just these slight mistakes of doing things that is why I do not wish to go blocking them if they could turn out to be pleasant people to talk to or even become friends that is the reason I created this thread to raise awareness to older and newer users alike I have no dislike for Branjo but after hearing from a few people even some unmentioned here he turned out to be the example ( sorry about that ) ultimately I am just trying to make the community more pleasant for everyone at least in this way as I am unable to do anything about that giant outbreak of new users that solely make their accounts to attempt to get free games.

Also when you block someone apparently it also reports it to GOG.(it says block and report)
So if everyone just blocks people GOG would get alot of those reports, thus just wasting their time when there is nothing major going on.

We have a ignore function for the PM system, so I'm not sure why this thread should have been made. It isn't a scam, if it's as shameless as the OP says, then I doubt anybody is going to fall for it.

I say, just ignore them or do as you're suggesting. If enough people do that, then the beggars will get the picture.

As much as I like the generosity around here, it does tend to attract beggars.

The main problem with that option is that is disables messages from all users, even from the people you actually want to hear about.

Its kinda like this yes you can ignore problems but that wont solve them you can also ignore a gunshot wound but that wont prevent it from getting infected, of course first thing you would do is try to clean it to prevent infection I don't know if everyone is like this but I like solving things not so much for my own benefit but mainly for the benefit of others

If would people ignore the begging, it would eventually stop. The reason why we have a begging problem is that people are feeding the beggars.

Having a stated policy of not responding to begging PMs and sticking to it will extinguish the unwanted behavior. Going public like this, just means that rather than getting beggars you're going to be getting trolls.

I do agree there but then the issue comes up with making a bad impression of yourself to them that means slim chances of becoming acquaintances so if the person isn't really a bad guy then its a shame I like being nice to everyone but sometimes I have no choice but to ignore them despite me not wanting to.

So I figured pointing it out to them to prevent them from considering doing this little mistake would be a better solution overall maybe not as successful but still its wroth a try.

There is always several solutions to things going from the quick efficient usually preferred ways to the inconvenient slow tedious ways that offer a better result at a higher pice

I'm not sure how naming and shaming would result in the desired message getting across.

Just tagging the contest with rules that disallow begging and bar them for a couple months. Add the date of the expiration to a DB and verify that the winner hasn't been blacklisted.

If more contest runners would do that, I'm sure that most of the begging would stop.

Personally, I tend to funnel my giveaways through people that are already running them, which reminds me, I've got a few games that I should give away.

I'm definitely not one of the biggest givers, but I do give away from time to time.

The most effective way would probably require a sticky with some basic things to not do on the forums but that doesn't seem very possible ( GOG are you reading this we need a sticky with some helpful hints to new users I will even create it for you if you wish me to do so ).

What I'm hoping for really is for newer and older users to read something like this and be discouraged from doing such things it is a slow and tedious process but the end effect would have people not being ignored by people and have more interaction rather than be discouraged from talking to people at all.
