Street Fighter 2

I prefer IK+ before they brought in all the silly special moves, at least they were straight forward to pull off in Mortal Kombat though...
I don't know about the community here, but all my friends liked the original Rise of the Triad (Dark War). I even played through this and asked myself afterwards why I bothered. I find it inferior most of the other FPSses of that era. It has it's moments (far inbetween). And I liked the over the top violence.

But grid based levels? Those silly floating platforms? And - while I like long games - that one was too long and repetitive.

Charon121: What are you saying?! There is a distinct difference: New York is brown, Hong Kong is red, while Paris is blue. :p

The FPS shooting part is a bit clunky so I've always preferred the stealth approach (also for moral reasons). You have to appreciate the plot to like the game. I found it very exciting, like a good book you just can't put down. And some gameplay mechanics were, if not revolutionary, quite refined at the time. I agree, some areas are pretty drawn out, like that underwater base, but if you like the game you always want more from it.
Maybe I should do the whole game again. It has undeniable qualities, you're right ;)
Hate is such a strong word. I dislike many games or find them uninteresting (COD, Battlefield, about 95% of driving games, sports games, space exploration games), but I don't really hate any of them.

Except one. Candy Crush Saga. I despise that game. Actually, when I think about it more, I do hate a lot of games. There's one word that each of them share: micro-transactions (or is that two words?)

DProject: Hate is such a strong word.
They do say that one is better advised to hate the game rather than to hate the player.

Huinehtar: There are many more games that I hate while being loved by lots of people:
- everything Blizzard made since Diablo II (Warcraft III, WoW, Starcraft II, Diablo III...): Diablo II I hated because it's way too repetitive and boring to me; and for the others, the games are too 'shiny', too 'comics-like' or too 'PSX-polygons-like' for my tastes. Even in Warcraft III, while the story isn't too gentle, it doesn't make sense with graphics, and WoW followed that path
I was a Diablo II hater too - the first instalment was dark and morose, and Diablo II was much too colorful in the comparison. Also, the vast spaces of the DII seemed too monotonous while DI was placed in the dungeons and those levels seemed perfect fit for me.
For a time, at least.
I re-rediscovered Diablo II last winter when I read about the abundance of possibilities the classes give, the synergies between the skills that could make you unstoppable. I chose a Hammerdin, a Paladin using Blessed Hammer skill. It was like an illumination. I finished the game + Lord of Destruction expansion pack on normal and later on nightmare level. I'm thinking about Hell level now :)
Another thing that is interesting in DIiablo II is the usage of runes. You may combine the runes as you like but if you use them in a specific order you will get a runeword which enhances the weapons and armor even more, beyond what the runes alone provide.
So, to anyone who loves the hero development, boundless ways to enhance the equipment and lots and lots of loot - Diablo II is for you.

As for the games I hate which everyone love:
- The Sims;
- Pharaoh / Zeus / Caesar.

Funny. Doesn't seem like anyone really like COD, yet everyone plays it.

Mine would be mainly The Witcher series, the Gothic series, and Alan Wake. All of them are available here on gog, all of them seem to be beloved by fans, and yet everyone of them have been attempted and then uninstalled by myself. I'm finding that the right mixture of story, game play, and game mechanics to be a hard balance. Certainly in short supply in modern game design, IMO.

Dude that game is way too old fashioned.
Ok, I'll play along, even though "everyone" may be very small groups of people in my case.

I find it very puzzling that so many who have have played Richard & Alice have such a positive opinion of it that I just can't relate to. If I hear anything about it, it's almost exclusively praise and recommendations, and every time I have to ask myself whether I'm the only one who can see the Emperor's new clothes for what they are or whether I'm just a grumpy old man who has played too many AGS adventures ... Seriously, what "good writing" did I miss while I was sleeping through this longwinded, bland and terribly bleak monologue of a game with some trivial puzzles thrown in? :P

I also hated Home, but at least in that case I can still guess why it would appeal to other people with different tastes. And I give it credit for being a bold experiment, even though personally I'd consider it a failed one.

Other than those two I can't think of any right now. Well, I strongly disliked Evoland and the Neverwinter Nights OC but fortunately I'm not the only one who felt that way.
Red Alert 1, Heroes 2, Warcraft 2!

I'm not sure if everyone loves these or even used to but they had a lot of praise which I don't understand. Their direct sequels are a lot better.

Elmofongo: Oh you want more ok:

Mass Effect especially after 1 is nothing but a glorifyed roller coaster pop-a-mole Movie masquerading as a deep RPG.
Truer words were never spoken!
Do you want Frozen Synapse on HumbleBundle (steam-ready, of course.;))?

Elmofongo: Dragon Age: Origins FTW ;)
DAO is fine, DA2 is not. The only game I willingly can't play. Just.., just wrong.

Elmofongo: (I am just into fantasy more so than Sci-Fi, Fantasy is more adventerous and more open. I rather explore all of the Eastern Kingdoms of WOW than one big giant hub world that are SWTOR's planets, Fantasy Worlds feels complete)
Aren't we relatives? ;) I don't mind Fantasy at all, though after DnD 3rd Ed, and especially after 4th (3.5 was more or less fine), I kinda got overfilled, so only few games in Fantasy setting got immediate green light from me.
And I do like exploration. :) Main quest? Nuh, I want to know what's behind that hill. And behind that river band. And across that lak... What do you mean "you can't travel this direction, turn around"?!

Never got a game from HumbleBundle. How does it work?
Tbh? There's a few of them. Such as Planescape: Torment. (Hear me out now). I like RPGs as my title on the forums state, but there is a point where I get tired of reading and just want to slaughter a legion of enemies, loot them and sell their crap. PST seemed to be all about talking and dialogue, and though the combat was great, there just didn't seem to be enough for me. It was extremely slow since every quest I did seemed to involve either talking to someone or running across the map(Actually have no issue with this normally)

Another one, you say? Fable....3. This game blows in comparison with the first two, and even TLC. The Story Line sucked, the dialogue sucked, and even the magic system sucked in this game. Feel free to disagree but I miss the original spells in Fable, unleashing fireballs and lightning bolts on the back of my multi-arrow. King right there son, however would I replay it? Probably.

Another one that I dislike that everyone seems to LOVE is that gods forsaken game Grand Theft Auto Games. Actually I don't even dislike it. I hate it. I hate the basis, the story, and everything to do with it. But that might have more to do with the fact that I am more of a Fantasy/Magic RP Gamer than anything to do with that game. Personally, I just think its a POS >>

No offense to anyone who loves those three games, just....don't ask me to play them(again)

Nobody ever gifted me any games there, so I'm not sure about receiving gift mechanics, but in overall, it is very similar to GoG - you go there, redeem game, and download DRM free version (if present), or get code to enter in Steam (replaced, AFAIK), or tie-in Steam account and then just redeem links. Frozen Synapse is available as DRM free, so if you don't want to link Steam profile you could play just fine.
