keeveek: Making a note here: never trust indie devs with your money upfront

Well, GOG.com and GOG customers got screwed over with this one for sure.
You see, EA is clearly evil!

Oh, wait ...

TheFrenchMonk: We convinced Amanita asap to do something for people who pre-ordered on GOG. More details to come tomorrow via TheEnigmaticT ;)
avatar
spindown: I think the details are out already - they are offering the full soundtrack, and art book and a free copy of Machinarium to people who pre-ordered on GOG.
And if the people preordered Botanicula ...already have Machinarium ? :D
avatar
anjohl: Awesome. Looks good on GOG and any of you that fell for their new pricing/catalogue scheme. Flying too close to the sun...
Right, because $9.99 is a new price point. Troll harder.

spinefarm: And if the people preordered Botanicula ...already have Machinarium ? :D
Maybe they expect that no one has Machinarium on GOG, after they got it during all the previous offers.
Why don't we all cancel our GOG preorder for this game and buy another 9.99$ GOG. So Amanita gets nothing and GOG still has it's sale.

If you still want the game, you can get it for 0.01$

Disclaimer:

I haven't preodered it. Usually I wouldn't even think of anything like this, but this is a dick move beyond anything I've seen in the indie scene so far. And, if GOG has a good lawyer, has some serious legal implications ....

Same thing if you already had Fallout? Enjoy what you're getting :)

It's definitely a dick move, but I don't see how it would be illegal to do what they did.

Not the same :) Here we talk about a screw up from Amanita.

If they had a contract for exclusive pre-order with them...

oh look, it's people in the GOG forums being angry at yet another thing. what else is new.

if you pre-ordered the game on GOG then clearly you thought the game was worth that price. has that changed now that it's in the bundle?

personally, i wouldn't have considered buying the game, and i have repeatedly passed on the opportunity to pick up Machinarium for cheap. now that both games are in a Humble Bundle, I might actually purchase them.

SirPrimalform: This this this.

If you pre-ordered it for $9 then you must have decided that was a good price.
avatar
bevinator: Unfortunately this only applies to the preorder. Lots and lots of people don't actually do preorders, but instead buy in the first week or to, and that means that ALL of those people are going to buy it from HB instead of from GOG. And once the bundle is over, nobody is ever going to want to pay full price for this game again, because on release day it was super-cheap. It may not be bad for the individual buyer, but it's bad for GOG, and Amanita HAD to have known it was bad for GOG, which is why they kept it a secret.

It seems to me like they were just using GOG as a preorder venue, and past release date were just planning on giving them the finger.
I wasn't talking about GOG, I was talking about customers. I've already said this is a dick move regarding GOG earlier in the thread.

Maybe because you can't cancel the preorder after game was released?

I hate this new timeline crap, I saw it and commented then it just wasn't there anymore. It appears on my phone fine though.

The same as if you got the Humble Bundle but already own it. Please don't tempt people to start getting annoyed about something else

And this is your special brand of favoritism or ... ? They didn't have to give you anything. You paid for Botanica, you got Botanica ... (if you even preordered it). So now they offer most of the things some other retailer has on offer to GOG-ers as well, and that's worth complaining about?

The point is, GOG and Amatia are contractual partners. As such, you have certain unwritten obligations to prevent others from harm. If you act in a way that is harmful to your partner, you can be liable for damages. And this is a textbook case. I don't know the contract in this case, but doing a stunt like this without GOGs knowledge could get them into trouble.

(I was first under the impression the game wasn't released on GOG yet, which would have made it even worse.)

On the bright side: 4 releases this week! (including TW 2)

Edit: Especially interesting is that Amatia is seller and creator. Therfore they are, in a way, also GOG competitor. Which makes "marketing stunts" like, well, price dumping, even more illegal. If GOG did pay Amatia for the license itself, and is not just giving them a part of each sold game, they are liable.
