I like that they are going for the animated aesthetic. This looks like an Day 1 purchase, provided there is no DLC or expansions to worry about. :)

Good call on using Norse mythology, a big part of it is Ragnarok, in which the gods would pass on, as does the giants and the world at large.

Wow, I really dug the trailer. Nice. Thanks for the word.
Well, Stoic has met their Kickstarter goal.

One notable thing in Stoic's announcement is their talks with an animation studio to get better graphics and cinematics into the game. If that works out then hopefully it won't look too much like Flash to some people.

Tormentfan: Considering that the gods in this are supposed to be dead, that means the game is going to be psuedo-viking with all of these people playing the gods... I don't think I want to play some vanity game for people with too much money, either.
That tier is a little cheesy, but I think it'll mostly manifest as things like random shrines you'll find in the wilderness. And, really, is it all that different from Wasteland 2's tiers for adding your own shrine, special item, or even NPC to the world?

Update #4

"In a week filled with more good will than we've ever seen in our lives before, we're really proud to announce that anyone who pledges/has already pledged $50 or up will get all three parts of The Banner Saga - the full game - for free."
Yeah, just increased my pledge from 35 to 50. Got a bit more money to spare since I don't intend to get the GW2 collector's edition anymore. Bloody RMT.
Also, in the comments thread they mention a possible boxed edition:

[i]" I see that even more people are commenting about their hopes for a boxed copy. I can let you know that we've been talking about this possibility and have come up with some very cool, unique ideas that are getting us really excited. We're going to be continuing to evaluate the whole boxed copy idea and will talk to you about it when it's finalized.
I guess we never really thought about it previously because we honestly weren't understanding the amount of support the Banner Saga would garner. Now that we know we want to make sure we do it right.

I do hope a boxed coy will be added to the $50 (Poster) level, as that's where I decided to put my pledge. While I do have a design that would be cool to see in the game, I decided I prefer having a poster.
A new update has been posted and... Well, see for yourself:

+ I upped my pledge!

I saw the concept art in that update.

It has a centaur.

As a Shining Force fan, I must say...Yes! Yes!

(I'm also digging the golem-looking guy.)

Wow, I pledged 50 dollars.
I like in the interview with Geekscape where they said they were avoiding elves...seriously, more game developers need to take this same stance. When a game about Norse mythology treats the old Tolkien dynamic like the plague you know the idea has been driven into the ground.

16,548 backers
$577,112 pledged of $100,000 goal
67 hours to go

Also, Stoic signed on the guy who did the soundtrack for Journey so yeaahhh. Edit: Took me this long that someone already pointed this out.
