On account of them picking on SPF for using random.org for his vote instead of something to leave a trail, when a tiny bit of scrolling reveals the post in question was the second post of the entire game.... and they are now trying to get SPF to imagine who he would vote for in a 1st/2nd post legitimately? that gung-ho attitude is typical of an android pretending to be human.

That's odd - no one has ever told me I was odd here. Even though I am occasionally a bit odd. Even oddly.

You may not find value in it, but it's a follow-up question to someone who admits they kinda dodged and otherwise hasn't left much of an avenue to converse with them at all. And whom I don't have any prior knowledge of, so...sure, it's thin.

RVS is, in general, mostly useless. To the extent it has any value, it's that it forces everyone to come up with some sort of explanation - valid or otherwise - that can at least be tone read. Maybe mafia tries to distance. Maybe mafia tries to buddy up to that player who tends to see through them.

Saying "this website told me x" is a) lame, and b) dodging what minimal value exists and shifting the onus to other players to move the game forward. I think you're also overvaluing my vote there, esp. given that I've already moved it. ;) And as noted in the post where I voted, I assumed a different day frame than is actually the case. But I don't regret the vote in any case.

Will asking him for some new facile reason produce something game breaking? Probably not. But as someone who is a terrrrrrible player at being non-town, I tend to give something away in RVS precisely because it is based on nothing other than superficial reaction (I've been scum twice, and the first time Krypsyn was on me from my first post, and the second time yogs), so I'm suspicious of players who try to duck the interaction entirely, awkward as it is, precisely because it is awkward by nature for some of us, and also there's a very thin slice of trying to push people to contribute more.

Which ties in somewhat to why I'm willing to pile on flub here in a way I wouldn't pile on adalia or wyrm for similar past antics. But that's a story for another day.

And let's face it, 30% of the reason to make that post was that embedded joke that I found hilarious but apparently you were not entertained by it.

Mostly for me this type of follow-up question is at least a potential doorway into getting them to talk about something. I had no idea what cristi would say to my, at the time, similarly shallow poking based on what was on the table, and it turned into a pretty interesting conversation. Is she lock-town or lock-scum? Of course not, but I have a much better grasp of what she's seeing and where she's coming from than before I asked. That has value, even if the path to getting there was a bit indirect.

Also that joke has been forever one-upped in my head by an insane radio programme where panelists attempted a game of scrabble... since we're still early in Day 1 I'll quote it for entertainment purposes. I guess you have a point bout RVS, I understand disliking it... though (back when I last played!) it usually wriggles out into proper arguing by itself. Still, asking someone for a more "legitimate" vote instead of a random, in the second post of the entire game... that's a bit overkill, no? There's literally nothing to go off.

1. I also agree that we should make the first day count as much as poss. But it’s always going to be hard because of the lack of information available to us at this point.

2.@cristigate - that’s quite worrying to think that someone town could be in fact a cylon sleeper! I think that’s a very good point.

3.What’s our best strategy to utilise the brig mechanic? I guess it allows us to punish someone who we suspect - so it gives town two day actions? So I guess it’s not that helpful on D1?

That’s a good question - to my knowledge (feel free to correct me) I have played with JoeSapphire, Elebutterfly, SirPrimalForm and Vitek before. I don’t remember much else from that first game and I can’t be bothered to go look for it to make sure.

I also think that’s a bit dodgy, but I get that it is Day 1 and we have nothing to go on, so I think that Bler114 starting off a conversation has been useful in itself.

Voting spreadsheet? Hell yeah, if I recall correctly, my scum spreadsheet was very accurate last time!! *opens excel*

My scumread was SirPrimal. For the same reason as bler mentioned (using random.org to not give away any connections in RVS - I missed ZFR doing the same) and also for his, Oh gosh, there was a murder, that's bad fluff.
Not too damning thing but seems like he tries to appear like benign guy.

We've got off to a nice start well done everybody!

I've only read the game so far once over, and I'm going to write this without going back as a challenge to me, and so you get my less calculated responses. (of course you've only got my word for that)

I TOO think it's pointless embrigging people at this stage - my first thought is that while there's (presumably) a mafia team going around, then if we do chance upon brigging a mafia they'll be able to carry on nightkilling anyway so we won't get anywhere. It seems very useful once we've found our first cylon (assuming they're a team of three which would be most likely in a 13 player set up - am I right?) The chance of roleblocking a Mafioso is countered by the risk of roleblocking a townsmember so either way my instinct is not to use the brig yet. But it might be a marvellous powerful tool for town later on.

I'll try and remember everybody we've got in the game:

1- Joe - played by me. I know whether or not I'm mafia (I'm town but you know I'll be saying that whatever so probably best not to mention it? Ah well!)
2- Bren (damn. I had remembered the name but now I've forgotten it. Smurfpicture. Sorry!) Leaping into the game with gusto. Lengthy response to ele. I'm inclined to trust you!
3- Ele - first post struck me as different in tone to the game before it (but I'll have to read over again). I've been reading over some old games and NMillar had a theory that the first person to break the random voting stage and attempt to craft an argument should be lynched. Arguably that's vitek, but to me ele strikes me as the one composing an argument (and now I'm doing that too. Great game this). OF COURSE n millar's logic shouldn't be blindly trusted, but at this stage with not much to go on I'll leave it out there.
4- Vitek - I'm interested to find out about his scumread, inclined to take him seriously, and ready to risk the chance and trust him... maybe stupid but I get town vibes based on nothing (or based on longheld fond feeling)
5- Flubbucket - interesting thought about the whole traffic cone/pylon/cylon clue, Esp. if he's done it before. However my four-years-old impression of Fluminious Bertram Bucket is that he's inclined towards taking the game not-too-entirely-seriously. Is that accurate? If I come across any relevant info while I look over the game archives I'll be sure to share it.
6- Littlerabbit (did you change your name? the one with a picture of a rabbit) - promises to start a spreadsheet. Had the same promise from Ele. Are these going to be shared with the group? Probably they ought to be. No read as of yet.
7- Sirp Imal Form - Should change his picture. Too defensive? I wouldn't have thought that using the random.org was a sign of mafias but I'd like it to turn out so. I think his response has been fairly typical of him... which is also that he's a player that's hard to read. Correct me if I'm wrong please!
8- Damnation - OMBUS! No read.
9- black-and-white-picture-guy - RUDE OF ME not to know your title, sorry! uhhh. not much read. Seems sensible? Oh dear I shouldn't have done it this way but I've written it now.

This is pretty much all I know about JoeSapphire. You two are... separate people, right? (Pre-post edit: Joe's monologue confirms every word...!)

I'm also skimming the thread and confusing my own avatar with Krypsyn's (possibly former?) one... This bodes well.

And I agree with the rabbit, as much as I would love to see the Brig in action it's not going to help us on the first night. Joe is right too in that it's basically a role block... but it's also a vote block. That might come in handy later.

I think Vitek's reason for suspecting SPF in post 53is paper-thin, but so does he. Plus he didn't vote on the basis of it.

I have no idea if this is worth pointing out, but I'm a flavour hound... I think it's interesting that Adama wasn't shot. His neck was snapped.

ON THE SUBJECT OF CYLON SLEEPER AGENTS
if they are there's not really anything we can do about it. Other than compelling everybody to continue playing on the town's side even if your faction changes, which isn't really in the spirit of the game, but neither is faction-changing-roles so woop. Best not to get hung up on it unless it comes up.
