Paper Sorcerer, a unique-looking grind-less mixture of RPG and adventure coming with more than 40 floors of dungeons filled with encounters, treasure, traps, and puzzles, is available 20% off on GOG.com, for Windows and MAC OS X. That's only $3.99 for the first week!

I've spent mosted of my mortal life researching the arcane arts, looking for ultimate power to grant me dominion over the world of men. Always buried in books I was. It seems only fitting, that one of the infamous grimoires became my prison. Oh, those accursed do-gooders had no idea what they were doing, trapping me in here. Yes, I might be locked away… for now. But I am locked away in the place that is one of the greatest sources of magical power that ever existed in the multi-planes. I refuse to acknowledge my imprisonment! I refuse to recognize all of the strange creatures of this world as threat! They shall become my minions, or they will become my prey. My enemies might have won a battle, but the war is still raging, away from the plain sight. Sooner or later, I shall bring it back to them, more powerful than ever!

Paper Sorcerer is a stylish single player turn based RPG focused on strategy, party-building, and environmental puzzles. Fight with the skills and spells you've learned in a battle system that emphasizes strategy over grinding. Assemble a party of monsters and dark creatures to fight alongside you. Explore and solve environmental puzzles to unlock secret paths and find extra loot! A double-sided adventure, an RPG with adventure game elements. Please note that the Paper Sorcerer Mini-Guide and Artbook will be added soon to the game shelf.

Dive deep in to the fascinating and surprisingly colorful (for a mostly monochrome game) world of Paper Sorcerer, for only $3.99 on GOG.com. The 20% release discount offer lasts until Tuesday, June 3, at 9:59AM GMT.
Intriguing release.

Grargar: Was your version from GamersGate?
avatar
IAmSinistar: Yes, it was. Known issues with that one?
It's outdated. GamersGate's version is 2.1, while Humble's (and GOG's apparently) are 2.3.

Telika: Yes. Lack of manuals (which becomes a standard nowadays) make me sad. I like to discover and learn or get into the details of a game, or check something, without launching the game. Or having to repolay the tutorial (is it what we're supposed to do nowadays?).
Good there is a feast for manual-lovers ahead of us - with not YET released by Tommo flight sims from Microprose..Every time I fire up those games and see this 'Try other great sims from Microprose' screen with Red Storm Rising eh...GIMIE!
Bonus goodies which would suit to the game: papercraft figures and dungeon ٩(̾●̮̮̃̾•̃̾)۶

Tarhiel: Do you honestly read the manuals? rnet.
avatar
tburger: Yes I DO! Of course not on paper (usually I do it on my eBook reader)...and for oldies only...But I consider it as a great fun - sometimes even better than the game itself. That's why I'm complaining when GOG releases classic without a manual.
I get where you're coming from.
Back in the day, (thick!) instruction manuals used to be filled to the brim not only with basic game information, but also the backstory, lore or a few pieces of concept art, even - the purpose of these booklets was to make your imagination run wild, immerse you in the game world before you actually got the chance to delve into it.

JudasIscariot: We have version 2.3 on our site, so if your game was a lower version than that then the bugs are possibly fixed in our version.
According to GG their version is 2.1b, so the bug could be fixed then. I'd have to play it all the way through (and do the quest out of order) again to confirm if it's still there, though. :) Unless there is a changelog posted somewhere that lists all that has been fixed.

Got this in a bundle recently and really enjoyed it.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who does not have it yet and thinks it looks interesting.
The paper graphics really remind me of the dungeon crawler Dark Spire for the DS. Coincidence??? ...Yeah, probably. Can't wait to try this!

v2.2
- Issue with reward for 3 Brother sidequest fixed
That sounds like the one. Glad to see it got resolved, as it was a pretty major (though not game-breaking) flaw. Sucks that GG can't be bothered to give their customers the latest version with all these fixes, but then I don't really use them anymore if I can help it.

Thanks Judas!
Nice release, onto the wishlist it goes!

tburger: Meh..it's just not the same.

Tarhiel: Do you honestly read the manuals? I thought it is mantra of modern game design + some classic ones (like Black&White) that player should not need the manuals and basics of everything should be explained in tutorial, in one way or another.

I only "read" manual scans once - to see the pictures.
For everything else I consult the Internet.
I agree that a tutorial should be built into the game. You learn better by doing than by reading. However, as someone who grew up with them, I always feel kind of cheated when I don't have a manual to leaf through before diving into the game. It's a small pleasure of mine when I buy a physical copy to go through the manual in the bus on my way home, and spend some time with it before launching the game. Oftentimes the manual contains nice pictures, information about characters, lore elements, and tables/lists of items, skills, etc. which can be useful while playing the game.

So I think that manuals and tutorials are not mutually exclusive. If you can do both, I think you should have both for your game. :)

... aaaand that's what I get for replying before reading through the whole thread. :D I basically just repeated what you said, so... +1! :)

Got it for $1 on one of the recent Humble Daily Bundles (one of the few I actually put any money into)... Haven't gotten a chance to try it yet, but it looked like it might provide some decent entertainment.

Does anyone know how long the game is?

Apparently, a bit over 10 hours?
