Wishmaster777: I played better games on Java and Symbian back in mid 2000's on my mobile phone, so why even bother with that game.

_Auster_: You disliking something doesn't mean everyone dislikes it as well.

And besides, this post is about games at risk of getting removed from the catalogue (and since we're in a supposedly DRM free store, I'd say preservation too). This post is not about suggestions of what to play next.
Quote me a part where I said that everyone else dislikes it.

_Auster_: Cave Story's Secret Santa

From the store page:

It's our holiday gift to you: Cave Story's Secret Santa, a new game you can download for a limited time and play for FREE!
avatar
_Auster_: I'd imagine that means the game won't be claimable after a certain date, but in case GOG decides to do the same as Timberborn Demo, where both the aforementioned demo and the Cave Story special are free contents and a mod said GOG is fine with removing free contents from everyone's accounts, it's worth backing the game up too.
I read that and downloaded it right away.

It probably just means that the game won't be redeemable after a certain date or that it will be sold like so many other games, and it will continue in the libraries of those who added it. But it doesn't hurt to be cautious.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

Ubisoft announced they started working on a remake:

The game is on sale right now, so now's the perfect time to get it.

soosgjr: Netflix just bought the developers of Oxenfree, so they might end up pulling a Stranger Things on that one as well.

Edit: They also made Afterparty.
Heads up: in case someone is worried if Netflix will remove those titles, they're on sale right now. 60% off for Afterparty and 90% off for Oxenfree.

Also, if someone is interested in Oxenfree but thinks having one DRM free version is enough, please check if you don't own the game on Itchio already. It was available as part of the massive Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality that was available in June 2020. And also make sure you back up the game if you have it there, as downloadable files on Itchio can be rather volatile, even if the devs don't even touch the product's settings.

Crimzon Clover: World Ignition

Got removed from Steam earlier today.
I imagine the devs will remove it from here as well once they remember the GOG version exists.
And sadly the game never got the DLCs here.

Mary Skelter: Nightmares

https://www.gog.com/game/mary_skelter_nightmares

Mary Skelter 2 was announced earlier today, and it includes an updated version of Mary Skelter: Nightmares which is unlocked upon completing Mary Skelter 2.

Mind that I'm not sure how much at risk it is of getting delisted, tho, since that's the first time a game developed by Idea Factory/Compile Hearts has two different versions released in the same platform. Still, just in case, here's the warning, and it's on sale now, so now's the perfect time to get it.

And even if it doesn't get delisted, it's still a game I recommend playing.

The Nightmares from the Deep trilogy from Artifex Mundi was removed from Steam without notice earlier today by request of the publisher.

https://www.gog.com/game/nightmares_from_the_deep_2_the_sirens_call
https://www.gog.com/game/nightmares_from_the_deep_3_davy_jones

Since Steam says that instead of just disabling the store pages, it was probably an intentional move, maybe due to license expiration or incoming remasters.

In case the GOG version is at risk too, this is the ideal moment to buy them, as all 3 are -80% off.

[this is speculation, so please take it with a grain of salt]

FAR: Lone Sails might be at risk of getting removed from GOG specifically.
Why do I think that? Because a sort of sequel is now available on pre-order on Steam, and the information on the store page mentions it includes Denuvo. And if the devs are willing to add Denuvo to one of their games, there's a risk of them rethinking whether one of their previous games being DRM free is ideal or not.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but you can never be sure nowadays.

The conversations on the Steam page for the sequel are disturbing. The community manager for Frontier has purged all negative posts regarding denuvo, though requests for GoG release remain.

Personally I can't fathom what made the devs choose that publisher, but they are fully dedicated to the DRM Cult.

Frontier Developments? They've long been heavy DRM. They added DRM to Kickstarted products they did at the 11th hour before release, and then their next couple products are essentially single player always online games.

Also part of why Rollercosater Tycoon 3 disappeared from here and hasn't returned I'm sure. :(

Yep

Elite was a huge part of my childhood, its a shame to see a pedigree developer that should know better go so deep into anti consumer beliefs.

With the purchase of Activision-Blizzard by Microsoft, considering Microsoft's history of pro-DRM releases and if contracts allow it, many games here that are from companies that were owned by Activision-Blizzard and now are owned by Microsoft could be at risk.

The companies owned by Activision-Blizzard that I could find and that have titles here on GOG:

Sierra
Raven Software
Treyarch
Toys for Bob
Blizzard themselves (titles as developer | titles as publsiher)
Activision themselves (titles as developer | titles as publsiher)

Cave Story's Secret Santa is now delisted, but can still be downloaded. (so far)
