Gloria means "glory" (IIRC). Gloria perpetua thus means "Eternal glory". I guess that's hot.
You've been able to play Steam games offline for several years now, as long as the game is fully downloaded.
I can't use Steam at all. Can't even run the client. It just keeps messing with my system and crashing before I can even get logged in. This is also the reason why I won't be able to buy the special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island (which will come out July 15th through Steam) until it gets sold through another service.

In keeping with the elitist theme of the other thread, let me say that I am NOT playing Monkey Island on a console! There, I said it. Let the flaming commence.

Fellow Elitist reporting in! And I too will not play an adventure game on a dirty console!!

Don't you relish the idea of perverting the stereotypical simplistic crappy console game perception by playing a real PC game on it?

yeah, that's pretty hot.
Shame they went with Steam.. Let's hope the contract doesn't specify anything like making the digital distribution of LA's old games Steam-exclusive.
...
Let's hope.
<solemly closes his eyes and kneels down before the GOG altar, reciting the scriptures of GOG>
Any word if it is restricted to any regions? While I'd have liked to see the games on GOG (and told them so) I'm perfectly happy with them on steam... it's a huge leap forward for Lucasarts and about the only decent thing they've done in years (other than the recent partnership with telltale).
I just hope that Grim Fandango, X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, Dark Forces, Outlaws, Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith and X-Wing alliance make it on there soon.
given the cool bundles that steam is known for, i can see myself picking up a lot of games.
The list of games includes LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure and Thrillville: Off the Rails. I have a funny feeling GOG wouldn't accept them anyway, considering they are from this console generation.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if LucasArts did an Atari (and block all non-North Americans from getting it).
@Skystider: VAC only affects Valve's (and Tripwire's) multiplayer games. If you don't buy a Valve multiplayer game, you can't get a VAC ban. And even with a VAC ban, you're still free to download, say, Unreal Tournament 3 and play it online. VAC isn't as bad as some makes out.

I gotta be honest, I was absolutely shocked by this announcement. Especially with the first of the games coming out so soon. I'm obviously not in the business, but I have to imagine that getting the LucasArts licenses must have been the Holy Grail of old games for the longest time. Who wouldn't want to get TIE Fighter out again? Or Monkey Island? Yet LucasArts has kept a death grip on their intellectual property, further reinforcing my belief that they just hate gamers.
So, at the risk of shifting the discussion, I'd like to speculate on what Steam had to do to beat out Gametap and GOG. Sacrifice a goat to Lucas? Send the offer with a Swedish masseuse? A time-share in Aspen? Photos of the CEO in a compromising position?
Probably just be the biggest digital distributor. LA would be going for the maximum sales at the maximum safety so a combination of the biggest name in digital distribution with the copy protection options they offer makes the most business sense
My hope is that they don't expect the games to sell like new, get discouraged when they don't break a million in the first week and then can the whole idea, probably blaming piracy

Yeah, that happens on Gametap all the time. You'll find games repeatedly disappearing and re-appearing on their list becomes the game company in question has some spat and decides to pull their product.
