cogadh: This probably won't change anything, but if everyone responds to the Twitter announcement with a "happy to see the old games back, but would have preferred GOG.com instead of Steam", it might make LA at least consider GOG.

I did just that now, everyone send lucasArts a tweet with this message! maybe we will convice them!
Been offline last few hours, so I'm gutted to just find out that STEAM are distrubuting some of the Lucasarts catalogue.
No support, premium price, and hate forums.
What more could you not want.
Sad announcement.
I hope they will add KOTOR Series on Steam too.

Stop trying to make me feel better, I want to be in a bad mood ;)
Well this announcement could make me sad if the prices are not nice.
If price is right then I guess I'll get the new Monkey Islands, The Dig, and wait patiently for Full Throttle.
As always I wish for these games to be on GOG, perhaps in 2010 when their sales have run their course on Steam.
New announcements bring new sales waves, just like releasing games at retail.
So I do fully expect once the sales have slowed down these games will be "re-released" on GOG to catch another sales wave.

"it's just a start."
meaning perhaps some older games could make their way to GOG.
From an article on starwars.com, quote about MI Special Edition:
"The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be made available on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PC via Steam and other online distribution channels."
I'd be very interested to know what will be those "other online distribution channels", could be the next ones to release other LucasArts classic, after Steam.

I would love to punch someone over at Lucasarts.
As long as the old games use dos-box on steam I will be happy. For those who don't know the games that use dos-box are not tied to the steam DRM so it is more or less GoG.

I'd say this is pretty likely, or they'll use ScummVM.
This is fantastic! I can't wait to pick them up!

Probably Direct2Drive, GameTap and similar services.

Easier there tiger. I buy from both steam and GOG. It's nice that GOG has a loving, devotec community but the cheapest of all my purchases come from Steam. Doom, Doom 2, X-Com 1 & 2 are all legacy games and I got them all for $5 or significantly less - less than the lowest price point on GOG.
I also bought the Unreal pack on Steam for $20, which came with Unreal 1, 2, UT, UTK4, and UT3. A pretty damn good deal
Bollocks
Though hardly unexpected.
IF they actually do compatibility work, I MIGHT be tempted to try Republic Commando but unlike if they were being offered on GOG, I'm not replacing physical copies of stuff I already own
