What a bunch of "heroes". A real intelligent and exquisite attack, a DDoS. You can DDoS pretty much any online service these days, if you have money. Botnets are out there already.

I was kidding btw, and if GOG was DDoS'd we would have noticed it. It's just kids using scripts, not hackers, so I don't see why it's noteworthy.

It works fine, my laptop has been running offline mode for 6 months now and not a problem. :)

I wondered why I couldn't login to Origin online last night although offline kicked in automatically. I tried Steam to check on a game still on sale but could not access the store too. It had me thinking there was some issue with routing here in New England where a severe Winter storm has been in progress overnight. I guess not.

I hope they catch and jail (for a long time) the bastards responsible for this. We need to start making examples of these clowns such that this grandstanding has enough risk to give them pause.

I will say this sort of stuff makes me glad my game holdings are spread over a variety of services so unless nuclear war breaks out I can probably play some game somehow anytime I'd like.

Origin is back online this morning btw but as of about half an hour ago the Steam store is still not inaccessible here at least. So is Steam Community.

DERP appears to be out to smear a "professional streamer" on Twitch who uses the handle "phantomL0rd". They are attacking sites phantomL0rd frequents and even "swatted" him at his residence. The closest thing to an explanation offered so far is that members of DERP are "calling out" phantomL0rd and demanding that he beat them at games he plays; if he won't, or fails, they'll DDOS the server.

Anybody who has persistent problems reaching affected sites should try flushing their DNS resolver cache.

Bigger epeen probably. DDOS on major internet services is nothing new really. Most don't even get to news unless they actually manage to take down the site they're targeting. At least there were no credit card info stolen, this time.

It a joke. And what's this about jail? It wasn't a "hacker" getting personal info it was a script kiddie using an open-source program you dullwit, it probably barely even effected Steam or Origin.

This is not mere script kiddie shit. The perpetrators need to do hard time for this. Not for the DDOS attack. But for the swatting. (Swatting is the prank of making a hoax police call claiming a violent crime is in progress at the victim's residence.) The most notorious swatter is Matthew Weigman, who got 11 years in prison

Both Steam and Origin certainly are more than barely affected when their users cannot login to the service. I find it almost humorous that you fail to understand something so obvious. What is more important is how the users themselves are affected by these assholes.
